This study proposes an analytic hierarchical prediction model based on consistent fuzzy preference relations to help the organizations become aware of the essential factors affecting the implementation Assistive Input Devices(AID). Pairwise comparisons are used to determine the priority weights of influential factors and the ratings of success or failure outcomes amongst decision makers. The subjectivity and vagueness in the prediction procedures are dealt with using linguistic terms quantified in an interval scale [0, 1]. Then predicted success/failure values are obtained to enable organizations to decide whether to initiate knowledge management, inhibit adoption or take remedial actions to increase the possibility of successful AID for disabled. This proposed approach is demonstrated with a real case study involving seven influential factors assessed by eleven evaluators solicited from a special school located in Taiwan.

A search is presented for production of dark-matter particles recoiling against a leptonically decaying Z boson in 20.3 fb−1 of pp collisions at s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with large missing transverse momentum and two oppositely charged electrons or muons consistent with the decay of a Z boson are analyzed. No excess above the Standard Model prediction is observed. Limits are set on the mass scale of the contact interaction as a function of the dark-matter particle mass using an effective field theory description of the interaction of dark matter with quarks or with Z bosons. Limits are also set on the coupling and mediator mass of a model in which the interaction is mediated by a scalar particle.

Recently, there has been increasing interest in computer-aided ergonomics and its applications, such as in the fields of intelligent robots, intelligent mobiles, intelligent stores, and so on. The operation of convenience stores (CVS) in Taiwan is facing a crossover revolution by providing multiple services, including daily fresh foods, a café, ticketing, and a grocery. Therefore, forecasting the daily sales of fresh foods is getting more and more complex due to the influence of both internal and external factors. Eventually, a reliable sales-forecasting system will play an important role in improving business strategies and increasing competitive advantages. The purpose of this study is the development of an enhanced hybrid sales-forecasting model of fresh foods, called ECFM (Enhanced Cluster and Forecast Model), for CVSs by combining a self-organization map (SOM) neural network and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks. The model is evaluated for a six-month sales data set of daily fresh foods at a chained CVS in Taiwan. Meanwhile, the performance of the proposed model is compared with that of fuzzy neural network (FNN) and cluster and forecast model (CFM). The result reveals that the proposed model is not only amenable but can also promise the fresh food sales forecasting for CVSs. Copyright © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., A Wiley Company.

In order to reduce the signature verification time quite, some investigations on DSA-type and RSA-type digital signatures have been done to achieve batch verification. However, in this article, we shall propose an alternative type digital signature, which is a modified version of Ohta-Okamoto digital signature scheme, to give an efficient batch verifying multiple-signature scheme instead of verifying one individual digital signature at a time.

A performance evaluation model, weighted AUC (wAUC), is proposed to determine a better way to measure the imbalanced data learning classifiers. When computing the weighted area under the ROC curve, weights vary with the values of the true positive rate (TPrate) among regions in a bid to focus on the accuracy of minority class that is more important in common. As AUC is a special case of wAUC, wAUC is compared with other common performance evaluation measures by isometric analysis. The experimental results show that wAUC can distinguish the classifiers with the same AUC values. © 2012 Binary Information Press January 2012.

Hwang et al. proposed an ElGamal-like scheme for encrypting large messages, which is more efficient than its predecessor in terms of computational complexity and the amount of data transformation. They declared that the resulting scheme is semantically secure against chosen-plaintext attacks under the assumptions that the decision Diffie-Hellman problem is intractable. Later, Wang et al. pointed out that the security level of Hwang et al.'s ElGamal-like scheme is not equivalent to the original ElGamal scheme and brings about the disadvantage of possible unsuccessful decryption. At the same time, they proposed an improvement on Hwang et al.'s ElGamal-like scheme to repair the weakness and reduce the probability of unsuccessful decryption. However, in this paper, we show that their improved scheme is still insecure against chosen-plaintext attacks whether the system is operated in the quadratic residue modulus or not. Furthermore, we propose a new ElGamal-like scheme to withstand the adaptive chosen-ciphertext attacks. The security of the proposed scheme is based solely on the decision Diffie-Hellman problem in the random oracle model. © 2012 Vilnius Universit.

In terms of the Fuzzy Lyapunov method, this work proposes stability conditions for fuzzy logic control(FLC). Their application for chaotic systems can be approximated by the Tagagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. The fuzzy Lyapunov function is defined as a fuzzy blending of quadratic Lyapunov functions. External forces or disturbances are not considered in the controlled systems. In the design controller procedure, a parallel distributed compensation(PDC) scheme is utilized to construct a global FLC by blending all linear local state feedback controllers. The stability criteria are found not only for fuzzy modeling but also for a real chaotic system. Furthermore, this controller design problem can be reduced to a linear matrix inequality(LMI) problem by use of the Schur Complements. Efficient interior-point algorithms are now available in Matlab toolbox to solve this type of problem.

Facial expression plays an important role in face-to-face human-computer communication. Although considerable efforts have been made to enable computers to speak like human beings, how to express the rich semantic information through facial expression still remains a challenging problem. In this paper, we use the concept of “modality” to describe the semantic information which is related to the mood, attitude and intention. We propose a novel parametric mapping model to quantitatively characterize the non-verbal modality semantics for facial expression animation. In particular, seven-dimensional semantic parameters (SP) are first defined to describe the modality information. Then, a set of motion patterns represented with Key FAP (KFAP) is used to explore the correlations of MPEG-4 facial animation parameters (FAP). The SP-KFAP mapping model is trained with the linear regression algorithm (AMMSE) and an artificial neural network (ANN) respectively. Empirical analysis on a public facial image dataset verifies the strong correlation between the SP and KFAP. We further apply the mapping model to two different applications: facial expression synthesis and modality semantics detection from facial images. Both objective and subjective experimental results on the public datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed model. The results also indicate that the ANN method can significantly improve the prediction accuracies in both applications.

One of the key challenges for users of social media is judging the topical expertise of other users in order to select trustful information sources about specific topics and to judge credibility of content produced by others. In this paper, we explore the usefulness of different types of user-related data for making sense about the topical expertise of Twitter users. Types of user-related data include messages a user authored or re-published, biographical information a user published on his/her profile page and information about user lists to which a user belongs. We conducted a user study that explores how useful different types of data are for informing human's expertise judgements. We then used topic modeling based on different types of data to build and assess computational expertise models of Twitter users. We use We follow directories as a proxy measurement for perceived expertise in this assessment. Our findings show that different types of user-related data indeed differ substantially in their ability to inform computational expertise models and humans's expertise judgements. Tweets and retweets - which are often used in literature for gauging the expertise area of users - are surprisingly useless for inferring the expertise topics of their authors and are outperformed by other types of user-related data such as information about users' list memberships. Our results have implications for algorithms, user interfaces and methods that focus on capturing expertise of social media users.

Although there have been numerous studies regarding three-dimensional (3D) display techniques and Flash technology, there has been little discussion of how to apply the 3D display technique to Flash applications. In this study, we develop a method that uses passive 3D display glasses, which are cheaper than other 3D display techniques, to reduce the cost and popularize this technique for web applications. The 3D red-blue filter glasses are inexpensive and can be manufactured easily.
