Home security surveillance systems, using stable and fully equipped monitors, may reduce losses caused by burglary and increase home safety. In this paper, we present the implementation of a quick and cost-effective wireless connected home security surveillance system using Lego Mindstorms NXT robot tool kit and Java language. The system implemented uses Bluetooth protocol to record data monitored.

Since its introduction half a century ago IT has become one of the most important infrastructure components of virtually any organisation. An important key area of qualitative research in information systems is interviewing decision makers. These interviews aim to disclose hidden structures within IT projects and usage to increase their efficiency and effectiveness. In this context, the definition and analysis of critical success factors for information technology projects are well established areas for qualitative research in information systems. The analysis of critical success factors is of special importance since the IT projects still suffer from high failures rates. Therefore it is an important research goal within information systems to better understand IT projects to improve their success rates. The interviews of critical success factors provide a good data basis to disclose hidden structures in this domain. Besides only quantitatively interpreting such interviews the analysis can be enriched by some qualitative methods to support quantitative analysis and may disclose formerly hidden structures within the data. Therefore the objective of the paper is to enrich the analysis of IT projects and evaluate rough sets based quantitative analysis techniques for symbolic data which are characteristic in the domain of critical success factors analysis. © 2009 Georg Peters, Simon Poon, M. In this paper, we introduce an object-oriented modeling framework called UMF for modeling with graph-based formalisms, such as Petri nets and related models. UMF is based on a four layered model for defining a concrete model, including meta-formalism, formalism, model class and models. We have defined these concepts formally and have provided a sample model for showing how to use them in UMF. We have used the object constraint language (OCL) for precise definition of formalism in UMF. There is also an innovative model composition approach in UMF, which is more flexible than other existing approaches for composing models of variant types.

In the paper, we analyze the shortages of Service-Oriented Analysis and Design (SOAD) methodologies, and propose a SOAD method based on Use Case approach. Therefore, a service model is designed to facilitate service identification from Use Case script. Moreover, a process is provided as a guideline to aid an analyst to accomplish high-quality service identification with the method. By analyzing basic characteristics and an illustration of the method, we can conclude that the method has several strong points compared to other methods which are based on business process modeling and enterprise architecture. ©2009 IEEE.

Finally, we propose an SOAD method using DFD diagram. Therefore, a process is provided as a guideline to aid analyst to accomplish high-quality service identification with the method. In vehicular ad hoc network the fast movements of the node and the dynamic topological changes lead to the frequent disconnection of the multi-hop routing, and further lead to the challenge for routing algorithm on how to accurately acquire information of the destination node and how to forward packets. This paper proposes a routing protocol that incorporates greedy forwarding and directional forwarding based on geographical position called-GDGP. The position information of the destination nodes stored on every node could be updated through two independent message interactive mechanisms, which makes sure of the consistency of the position information recorded on every node and the real-time performance when refinds the routing. This further ensures the reliability of the routing algorithm. We compare the performance of GPSR and GDGP using network simulator NS-2 with the actual node movement model. The simulation results show that the improved routing protocol has a better performance in city scenes.

The selective-tracing waveform relaxation (STWR) algorithm, which combines good properties of traditional relaxation-based algorithms including WR and ITA, has been discussed. STWR is basically a WR algorithm, but it selectively traces and schedules subcircuits for one individual calculation. STWR can exploit circuits' multi-rate behaviors, uses dynamical windows (controlled by the convergence situations) in each WR iterations, and spends fewer number of subcircuit calculations in most test circuits. A new global feedback loop controlling method for STWR is proposed in this paper. Properties of proposed methods have been tested by real experiments.

The development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought variety to the way of our leaning and, therefore, has create new challenges to the learning. Applying ICT to the courseware has become a trend of education among most countries in the world. However, teachers won't be able to guild their students how to access more channels of acquiring knowledge and resources of learning using ICT tools, until they can clearly understand the characteristics and constrains of ICT, and hence can design appropriate associated teaching materials, courseware and teaching activities employing ICT. While education institutes decide to adopt some new ICT equipments in teaching purpose, in spite that managers of computing divisions think those equipments poses many advantages, many efforts are needed before teachers can use them in their teachings. Usually, there exists a big gap between awareness and implementation. In this paper, we try to construct a process and mechanism that education institutes adopting a new ICT using the innovation diffusion theory. Also, we propose to form several inside groups corresponding to stages in the process. These inside groups may dig out the facilitated factors of technology acceptance and reduce the obstructed factors through group members' personal interactions with group outsiders. Hence, education institutes may plan and maintain systematic strategies in supporting facilitate integrating ICT into education.

Delay constrained uplink scheduling policy for rtPS/ertPS service in IEEE 802.16e BWA systems

WiMAX is a promising broadband wireless networking technology and is expected to take the place of broadband access solutions such as DSL and cable. Owing to its superior support in mobility, it is expected to provide integrated voice and data service to realize broadband mobile computing. In order to reach better quality-of-service (QoS) requirements for real-time applications, the IEEE 802.16e standard defines five different services among traffic categories with different multimedia requirements. However, the problem of choosing the right set of medium access control parameters and packet scheduling policy to provide strict QoS guaranteed in IEEE 802.16e Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems remains unsolved and left as an open issue. In this paper, we propose a novel polling-based uplink packet scheduling policy for real-time Polling Service and extended real-time Polling Service (rtPS/ertPS) traffic to support real-time applications, with strict delay requirements, such as variable bit rate (VBR) traffic in IEEE 802.16e BWA systems. The proposed transmit-permission policy can derive sufficient conditions such that all the rtPS/ertPS sources satisfy their time constraints to provide deterministic QoS guarantees. In addition to theoretical analysis, simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. As it turns out, our design provides a good quality performance in the IEEE 802. 16e BWA systems. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
