Service-oriented computing is becoming a direction of computing technology. For realising the mission of service-oriented computing, service-oriented architecture has been proposed to facilitate the application development via discoverable services distributed on Internet. That brings out service-oriented modelling as a new technical area to provide modelling and analysis techniques of service-oriented applications. The paper proposes a framework for agent-based service-oriented modelling. It treats both the service providers and the service requesters as service agents. Domain ontology has been used to provide the sharable domain knowledge as well as terminology for allowing the agents to understand each others. A modelling process has also been illustrated with the model development of an online auction service.

Respecting related technologies within e-learning domain, the use of learning management system (LMS) has been considered as the most important and essential component. LMS can manage the curriculum learning content, learner's learning profile and learning process. However it lacks suitable study assistance functions and personalized interface. Accordingly LMS is hard to promote and to be utilized by learners. This paper proposed an integrated framework which combined the personal learning blog functionalities to LMS by using the tools interoperability (TI) architecture in order to develop the suitable learning functionalities and interface in LMS for learners. And we hope the TI-based blog functionalities which can be utilized by other LMS in order to improve the LMS utility rate and to prove the feasibility of TI-based blog system.

This article presents a hybrid multiobjective genetic algorithm to aid the tracking of the daily aircraft schedule recovery problem under disturbance events such as severe weather and mechanical problems. The proposed algorithm extends from the original method of inequality-based multiobjective genetic algorithm (MMGA) and utilizes an adaptive evaluated vector (AEV) to co-work with MMGA efficiently when maintaining the Pareto set of recovered schedules in the evolutionary population. Two main goals would be presented: One is to provide a multi-objective solution to the recovery problem and the other is to address the performance requirement on the recovery approach. A simulated disturbance experiment on the practical aircraft schedule is made to validate the recovery results under the expected short-time period.

An improved genetic algorithm (IGA) is presented to solve the mixed-discrete-continuous design optimization problems. The IGA approach combines the traditional genetic algorithm with the experimental design method. The experimental design method is incorporated in the crossover operations to systematically select the better genes to tailor the crossover operations in order to find the representative chromosomes to be the new potential offspring, so that the IGA approach possesses the merit of global exploration and obtains better solutions.

This paper proposes an optimal process design by using soft computing approaches. The proposed procedure integrates the Taguchi method, the artificial neural network, and the genetic algorithm. The Taguchi method is applied to collect experimental data representing the quality performances of a system. The artificial neural network is used to build a system model. The genetic algorithm is employed to search for the optimal process parameters. A process parameters design for a titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) thin film of the vacuum sputtering process is studied in this paper. The result estimated from the system model of the proposed procedure is satisfactory.

This paper presents a concept of a smart working environment designed to allow true joint-actions of humans and industrial robots. The proposed system perceives its environment with multiple sensor modalities and acts in it with an industrial robot manipulator to assemble capital goods together with a human worker. In combination with the reactive behavior of the robot, safe collaboration between the human and the robot is possible. Furthermore, the system anticipates human behavior, based on knowledge databases and decision processes, ensuring an effective collaboration between the human and robot. As a proof of concept, we introduce a use case where an arm is assembled and mounted on a robotpsilas body.

This article investigates the reverse logistics vehicle routing problem with a single depot, simultaneous distribution and collection of the goods by a homogeneous fleet of vehicles under the restrictions of maximum capacities and maximum distance. A mixed integer programming model is established. To solve the model, an Ant Colony System (ACS) approach combined with the pheromone updating strategy of ASRank and MMAS ant algorithm is proposed. In such approach, the vehicle residual loading capacity is introduced into the heuristic function considering the complex feature of fluctuating vehicle load. Moreover, the initial load is designed to be a random value correlated to the delivery and pick-up demands of the rest clients. The experimental study indicates that the proposed approach could improve the vehicle load rate and avoid the added total distance caused by the fluctuating load and the maximum capacity constraint. It could reach the satisfied solutions with high convergence speed in an acceptable computational time.

To solve this problem, an Ant Colony System (ACS) approach combining with the pheromone updating strategy of ASRank (Rank-based Version of Ant System) and MMAS (MAX-MIN Ant System) is proposed. A new heuristic factor is designed to improve the vehicle loading ability as well as the vehicle distance, and the initial vehicle load is designed to be a random value correlated to the delivery and pick-up demand of the rest customers on the path. The experimental study indicates that the approach could improve the vehicle load rate and get rid of the additional total distance caused by the fluctuating vehicle load and the limited capacity. It could obtain the satisfied solution with high convergence speed in the acceptable time.

On-a-slant village was inhabited by the Mandan, a sedentary native north American tribe, up until the late18th century. The on-a-slant "virtual village" has been constructed by the Worldwide Web Instructional Committee at North Dakota State University using archaeological records and other source materials to authenticallyre-create that space with 3D-rendered graphics. The environment now serves as an exploratory, immersive environment for teaching middle-school students about long-ago society. This paper describes the construction of the virtual village and its earth lodges, the software agent avatars who inhabit the space, and the role-playing game the students play in order to learn about the Mandan and their culture. Data collected over three years show that significant learning is accomplished through playing the on-a-slant game.
