Real-Time On-Site Ground-Motion Prediction Using ResNet

On-site warnings can decrease the range of late alert zone during earthquakes. This study develops a deep learning model to predict whether the maximum peak ground acceleration at a station exceeds 25 Gal based on the waveform of the initial P-wave. A ResNet architecture model is developed to address the degradation problem in multilayered models, thereby enhancing performance. The model exhibits high performance for a test dataset, achieving F1-scores higher than 90% over various time windows, and outperforms the traditional progressive displacement value (Pdv) method and newer convolutional neural network (CNN) methods. Ground motion of two actual earthquakes are applied to test the model and validate its prediction capabilities, and the results indicate that the proposed model has higher accuracy and speed than Pdv and CNN methods. In addition, the model is integrated with the Earthworm earthquake early warning system for real-time waveform analysis and prediction, extending the model’s applicability beyond experimental stages to online systems. The proposed method is also tested using data from earthquakes that occurred in March 2023. © Seismological Society of America.

The concept of solar cell is changing the world in obtaining a clean energy that is an environment user friendly source of energy. Solar arrays process and convert the irradiance which is representing the quantity of light that comes from sun to a usable energy. The maximum power point which is denoted by Maximum power (Pmax) can be efficiently extracted from solar panels through the implementation of a tracking system denoted by the maximum power point tracking algorithm (MPPT). Such a tracking system is well known and utilized in detecting the ultimate maximum power that can be taken from the PV solar arrays under the circumstances of the various changes in both the temperature and irradiance. Through this analysis study, the Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm will be proposed to adjust the perturbation steps that will be controlled by an enhanced fuzzy logic controller. It will utilize the fuzzy concepts to extract the maximum power. In this research paper an analysis will be conducted to find the unknown parameters of the PV module along in selecting the appropriate set of fuzzy rules/fuzzy table as well as introducing a high gain dc-dc boost converter to improve the efficiency of power, response time, and reducing the oscillation around the Pmax in the proposed photovoltaic system. © 2025 The Author(s).

Background: The automated classification of videos through artificial neural networks is addressed in this work. To explore the concepts and measure the results, the data set UCF101 is used, consisting of video clips taken from YouTube to recognize actions. The study is carried out with the authors' resources to determine the feasibility of independent research in the area. Methods: This work was developed in the Python programming language using the Keras library with Tensorflow as the back-end. The objective is to develop a network that presents performance compatible with the state of the art in terms of classifying videos according to the actions taken. Results: Given the hardware limitations, there is considerable distance between the implementation possibilities in this work and what is known as the state-of-the-art. Conclusion: Throughout the work, some aspects in which this limitation influenced the development are presented, but it is shown that this realization is feasible and that obtaining expressive results is possible 98.6% accuracy is obtained in the UCF101 data set, compared to the 98 percentage points of the best result ever reported, using, however, considerably fewer resources. In addition, the importance of transfer learning in achieving expressive results as well as the different performances of each architecture are reviewed. Thus, this work may open doors to carry patent-based outcomes. © 2025 Bentham Science Publishers.

Traditional speech disorders (SD) detection relies on subjective analysis, resulting in inconsistent outcome. Direct voice classification lacks effective approaches to capture temporal dependencies. Machine learning (ML) models face challenges in extracting the complex temporal and spectral variations in speech signals. Advanced deep learning (DL) and transfer learning techniques offer a foundation for early screening of SD. However, the lack of interpretability reduces the generalization capabilities of these models. Addressing these shortcomings is essential in order to improve the accuracy of SD detection and clinical trustworthiness. Thus, the proposed study introduces a novel image-based SD classification model to classify healthy and pathological speech with high accuracy and robustness. The raw speech signals are transformed into Mel-Spectrograms to overcome the limitations of direct voice classification. To facilitate the model’s interpretability, the statistical and handcrafted acoustic features are extracted from the raw speech signals. Hybrid MobileNet V3-EfficientNet B7and Linformer-Performer are employed to extract diverse features from the Mel-Spectrograms. An attention-based feature fusion is used to identify critical features indicating the SD patterns from the extracted features. The XGBoost classifier is optimized using Bayesian Optimization and HyperBand (BOHB) to classify the healthy and pathological speech. SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values is employed to offer valuable insights into the model’s decisions. The proposed model obtains an exceptional performance on two benchmark datasets. On the Saarbruecken Voice Database (SVD), it achieves an accuracy of 98.1% with loss of 0.13. It yields a remarkable generalization accuracy of 98.2% on the VOICE dataset, outperforming the state-of-the-art models. In addition, it contributes a significant advancement in SD detection, setting the stage for future research endeavors. © 2013 IEEE.

Modernization and intense industrialization have led to a substantial improvement in people’s quality of life. However, the aspiration for achieving an improved quality of life results in environmental contamination. A primary consequence of environmental degradation is air pollution, resulting from rising levels of poisonous chemicals in the atmosphere, which may induce detrimental health conditions in humans. It is harmful to both humans and agriculture. Given that the effects of air pollution on plants may not be readily apparent, it is important to analyse the necessary data and compute the outcomes. Farmers prioritise on pests and plant diseases, frequently neglecting the detrimental impacts of air pollution. Some plant species can withstand high amounts of pollution from suspended particulate matter and accumulated gases, while others are more susceptible to harm. Therefore, plants’ reaction to air pollution is influenced by the kind of harmful compounds, their levels, and the plant’s susceptibility to them. The LSTM +CNN Proposed Ensemble method may be used to analyse the impact of air pollution on agriculture by examining trends in crop production over time and predicting which crop is more resistant based on the pollution data. The initiative created for this aim may assist farmers in determining the most suitable crop to cultivate in their fields to minimize the impact of air pollution on agricultural yield. The findings show deep learning algorithms correctly predict hourly pollutant concentrations such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ground-level ozone, and particulate matter 2.5, along with the hourly Air Quality Index (AQI) for California. A proposed model used test RMSE values as a measure to evaluate prediction performance, achieving the best possible results. © 2025 SCPE.

Enhancing WRSN Sustainability through On-demand Directional Wireless Charging with Multiple Green-powered Mobile Vehicles

Current research on scheduling mobile charging vehicles (MCVs) generally focuses on periodic and omnidirectional charging of sensor nodes (SNs). However, this approach leads to significant energy wastage, especially when relying on fossil energy sources. In this work, we propose to schedule multiple green energy-powered MCVs equipped with directional antennas to efficiently charge SNs. We first develop an on-demand and directional charging model based on far-field wireless charging. Then, we formulate the SN survival maximization problem to efficiently prolong the lifetime of wireless rechargeable sensor networks (WRSNs). Given the NP-hard nature of this optimization problem, we develop the three-Step directIonal wireless charGiNg (SIGN) algorithm to efficiently solve this problem. SIGN strategically determines the MCVs’ anchor points (APs), traveling paths and wireless energy emitting directions. Finally, we conduct extensive simulation experiments to validate the superiority of our proposed algorithm in optimizing energy usage and prolonging network lifetime. © 2014 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in forestry as well as wildlife domains have become more feasible due to the advancements in data science and digital and satellite technologies. However, there is a serious global threat to biodiversity due to the rapid expansion of urban, agricultural, and development initiatives. Therefore, the effective monitoring, management, and preservation of biodiversity as well as forest resources may be facilitated by integration of cutting-edge methods like AI in disciplines of forests as well as biodiversity. This study suggests a novel approach to disaster management based on biodiversity protection that makes use of machine learning models and remote sensing image analysis. In this case, the data for disaster management has been gathered and processed for normalisation and smoothing. The processed image features have been segmented using active contour Gaussian Q- histogram equalisation model and feature extracted using probabilistic Bayesian fuzzy transfer NN. Experimental analysis is carried out based on parameters like random accuracy, average precision, sensitivity, AUC, and normalized co-efficient. The proposed technique attained average precision was 95%, sensitivity was 97%, random accuracy was 98%, and normalized coefficient was 94%, AUC of 96%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The pandemic creates a more complicated providence of medical assistance and diagnosis procedures. In the world, Covid-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS Cov-2), and plague are widely known pandemic disease desperations. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic tragedies, various medical diagnosis models and intelligent computing solutions are proposed for medical applications. In this era of computer-based medical environment, conventional clinical solutions are surpassed by many Machine Learning and Deep Learning-based COVID-19 diagnosis models. Anyhow, many existing models are developing lab-based diagnosis environments. Notably, the Gated Recurrent Unit-based Respiratory Data Analysis (GRU-RE), Intelligent Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based Covid Data Analysis (Thermal Images) (I-UVAC), and Convolutional Neural Network-based computer Tomography Image Analysis (CNN-CT) are enriched with lightweight image data analysis techniques for obtaining mass pandemic data at real-time conditions. However, the existing models directly deal with bulk images (thermal data and respiratory data) to diagnose the symptoms of COVID-19. Against these works, the proposed spectacle thermal image data analysis model creates an easy and effective way of disease diagnosis deployment strategies. Particularly, the mass detection of disease symptoms needs a more lightweight equipment setup. In this proposed model, each patient's thermal data is collected via the spectacles of medical staff, and the data are analyzed with the help of a complex set of capsule network functions. Comparatively, the conventional capsule network functions are enriched in this proposed model using adequate sampling and data reduction solutions. In this way, the proposed model works effectively for mass thermal data diagnosis applications. We consider a wireless networked control system (WNCS) with imperfect bidirectional links for real-time applications such as smart grids. To maintain the stability of WNCS, captured by the probability that plant state violates preset values, at minimal cost, heterogeneous physical processes are monitored by multiple sensors. This status information, such as dynamic plant state and Markov Process-based context information, is then received/estimated by the controller for remote control. However, scheduling multiple sensors and designing the controller with limited resources is challenging due to their coupling, delay, and transmission loss. We formulate a Constrained Markov Decision Problem (CMDP) to minimize violation probability with cost constraints. We reveal the relationship between the goal and different updating actions by analyzing the significance of information that incorporates goal-related usefulness and contextual importance. Subsequently, a goal-oriented deterministic scheduling policy is proposed. Two sensing-assisted control strategies and a control-aware estimation policy are proposed to improve the violation probability-cost tradeoff, integrated with the scheduling policy to form a goal-oriented co-design framework. Additionally, we explore retransmission in downlink transmission and qualitatively analyze its preference scenario. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed goal-oriented co-design policy outperforms previous work in simultaneously reducing violation probability and cost. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.
