An improved convex programming model for the inverse problem in intensity-modulated radiation therapy

Intensity modulated radiation therapy technology (IMRT) is one of the main approaches in cancer treatment because it can guarantee the killing of cancer cells while optimally protecting normal tissue from complications. Inverse planning, which is the core component of the entire IMRT system, is mainly based on accurate mathematical modeling and associated fast solving methods. In inverse planning, the fluence map optimization, which considers the multi-leaf collimator (MLC) modulation, is the current research focus. Although the hitting constrain problem with the unidirectional movement of leaf-sweeping has been solved, our goal is to solve the hitting constrain problem with the bidirectional movement of leaf-sweeping. In this study, we propose a non-synchronized type to solve the hitting constrain problem with the bidirectional movement of leaf-sweeping schemes for IMRT. In solving this problem, a new mathematical model is proposed under the framework of convex programming. The advantage of the convex model is to avoid the uncertainty and inaccuracy that occurs in the non-convex programming solving process. Experimental results for two clinical testing cases show that under the same condition of total number of monitoring units, the new proposed model produces better dose distribution than those of the total variance and quadratic models. © 2018 Totem Publisher, Inc. In recent years, face recognition systems have faced increasingly security threats, making it essential to employ Face Anti-spoofing (FAS) to protect against various types of attacks in traditional scenarios like phone unlocking, face payment and self-service security inspection. However, further exploration is required to fully secure FAS in long-distance settings. In this paper, we propose two contributions to enhance the security of face recognition systems: Dynamic Feature Queue (DFQ) and Progressive Training Strategy (PTS). DFQ converts the conventional binary classification task into a multi-classification task. It treats live samples as a closed set and attack samples as an open set by using a dynamic queue that stores the features of spoofing samples and updates them. On the other hand, PTS targets difficult samples and iteratively adds them in batches for training. The proposed PTS divides the entire training set into blocks, trains only a small portion of the data, and gradually increases the training data with each stage while also incorporating low-scoring positive samples and high-scoring spoof samples from the test set. These two contributions complement each other by enhancing the model’s ability to generalize and defend against various types of attacks, making the face recognition system more secure and reliable. Our proposed methods have achieved top performance on ACER metric with 4.73% on the SuHiFiMask dataset [11] and won the first prize in Surveillance Face Anti-spoofing track of the Challenge@CVPR 2023.

Book flipping scanning refers to the process of recording a book while the user performs the flipping action of its pages. In recent years it has gained much attention as it reduces the workload of book digitization significantly. It is a challenging task because flipping at random speed and direction causes difficulties to identify distinct open page images (OPI) which represent each page of the book. In this paper, we propose a fast technique for removing duplicate open pages introduced in the video stream due to erroneous flipping. We present an algorithm that exploits cues from edge information of flipping pages. The nature of the cues extracted from the region of interest (ROI) of the frame, determines the flipping or an open state of a page whereas temporal position a flipping page determines the direction of the flipping. Combining these information we decide whether an open page image is a duplicate or not. Experiments are performed on video documents recorded using a standard resolution camera to validate the duplicate open page removal algorithm and we have obtained 95% accuracy.

Existing cross-modal hashing still faces three challenges: (1) Most batch-based methods are unsuitable for processing large-scale and streaming data. (2) Current online methods often suffer from insufficient semantic association, while lacking flexibility to learn the hash functions for varying streaming data. (3) Existing supervised methods always require much computation time or accumulate large quantization loss to learn hash codes. To address above challenges, we present an efficient Online Label Consistent Hashing (OLCH) for cross-modal retrieval, which aims to incrementally learn hash codes for the current arriving data, while updating the hash functions at a streaming manner. To be specific, an online semantic representation learning framework is designed to adaptively preserve the semantic similarity across different modalities, and a mini-batch online gradient descent approach associated with forward-backward splitting is developed to optimize the hash functions. Accordingly, the hash codes are adaptively learned online with the high discriminative capability, while avoiding high computation complexity to process the streaming data. Experimental results show its outstanding performance in comparison with the-state-of-arts. © 2021 IEEE computer Society. All rights reserved.

Edge detection is one of the most commonly used operations in image processing and pattern recognition, the reason for this is that edges form the outline of an object. An edge is the boundary between an object and the background, and indicates the boundary between overlapping objects. This means that if the edges in an image can be identified accurately, all of the objects can be located and basic properties such as area, perimeter, and shape can be measured. Since computer vision involves the identification and classification of objects in an image, edge detection is an essential tool. Efficient and accurate edge detection will lead to increase the performance of subsequent image processing techniques, including image segmentation, object-based image coding, and image retrieval. A novel color edge detection algorithm is proposed in this paper. On the basis of standard deviation calculation of pixels the discontinuity among the pixels are detected. Then the image is segmented into a binary image with a fixed threshold where black pixels signify homogeneous region and white pixels signify edges. Finally, a thinning technique is applied to extract thin edges. The proposed method is applied over large database of color images both synthetic and real life images and performance of the algorithm is evident from the results and is comparable with other edge detection algorithms.

In region-based image annotation, keywords are usually associated with images instead of individual regions in the training data set. This poses a major challenge for any learning strategy. In this paper, we formulate image annotation as a supervised learning problem under Multiple-Instance Learning (MIL) framework. We present a novel Asymmetrical Support Vector Machine-based MIL algorithm (ASVM-MIL), which extends the conventional Support Vector Machine (SVM) to the MIL setting by introducing asymmetrical loss functions for false positives and false negatives. The proposed ASVM-MIL algorithm is evaluated on both image annotation data sets and the benchmark MUSK data sets.

Most existing methods for abnormal event detection in the literature are relied on a training phase. Different from conventional approaches for abnormal event detection, a saliency attention based abnormal event detection approach is proposed in this paper. It is inspired by the visual attention mechanism that abnormal events are those which attract attention mostly in videos. The temporal and spatial abnormal saliency maps are firstly constructed and then the final abnormal event map is formatted by fusing them using a method with dynamic coefficients. The temporal abnormal saliency map is constructed by motion contrast between keypoints extracted from two successive video frames. The spatial abnormal saliency map is structured based on the color contrasts. Experiments performed on the benchmark datasets show that the proposed method achieves a high accurate and robust results for abnormal event detection without a training phase.

Material flow characterization is important in the process industries and its further automation. In this study, close-to-laminar pulp suspension flows are analyzed based on double-exposure images captured in laboratory conditions. The correlation-based methods including autocorrelation and the particle image pattern technique were studied. During the experiments, synthetic and real test data with manual ground truth were used. The particle image pattern matching method showed better performance achieving the accuracy of 90.0% for the real data set with linear motion of the suspension and 79.2% for the data set with flow distortions. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

A color image edge detection algorithm is proposed in this paper. Average maximum color difference value is used to predict the optimum threshold value for a color image and thinning technique is applied to extract proper edges. The proposed method is applied over large database of color images both synthetic and real life images and performance of the algorithm is evident from the results and is comparable with other edge detection algorithms.

In this paper we propose a new approach to recovering epipolar geometry from a pair of uncalibrated images. We first detect the feature points. By minimizing a proposed cost function, we match the feature points, discard the outliers and recover the epipolar geometry in one step. Experiments on real images show that this approach is effective and fast.
