Design of the electromagnetic mill and the air stream ratio model.

Complex mineral raw materials processing is an essential operation in modern industry. Innovative technologies help in constant improving of the efficiency and performance. The paper presents a design of electromagnetic mill, its technological structure and control system. In comparison to conventional solutions, the electromagnetic mill is a fully automated system. It operates in more effective way. The proper selection of the physical and process parameters of the system is crucial for efficiency of the process. The device stands out because of its low energy consumption. The air stream ratio model has been presented for the dry grinding and classification unit with the electromagnetic mill. The concept of the grinding system is described along with indirect measurement methodology. Supervisory control algorithm based on the model structure is derived. © 2017

Changes in epidermal thickness are linked to various skin diseases, such as diabetic foot. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), a noninvasive imaging technology, enables detailed visualization of skin layers. This study employed a deep learning approach using the U-Net architecture to analyze OCT images, specifically focusing on the stratum corneum (SC) and epidermis (ED) layers. Utilizing a dataset of 10,000 images, the U-Net model achieved 92 % accuracy in predicting SC and 95% accuracy for ED. These results highlight the potential of this method for accurate 3D visualization of SC and ED layers, paving the way for precise assessment of skin layer thickness and its changes in medical applications.

In this paper, we study the embedded feature selection problem in linear Support Vector Machines (SVMs), in which a cardinality constraint is employed, leading to an interpretable classification model. The problem is NP-hard due to the presence of the cardinality constraint, even though the original linear SVM amounts to a problem solvable in polynomial time. To handle the hard problem, we first introduce two mixed-integer formulations for which novel semidefinite relaxations are proposed. Exploiting the sparsity pattern of the relaxations, we decompose the problems and obtain equivalent relaxations in a much smaller cone, making the conic approaches scalable. To make the best usage of the decomposed relaxations, we propose heuristics using the information of its optimal solution. Moreover, an exact procedure is proposed by solving a sequence of mixed-integer decomposed semidefinite optimization problems. Numerical results on classical benchmarking datasets are reported, showing the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach. © 2025

The model of an n-machine power system, considered to have uniform damping and transfer conductances, is decomposed into n−1 free subsystems interacting with one another. Stability analysis and stability regions are estimated by means of a vector Lyapunov function. The Lyapunov functions of the free subsystems and the corresponding aggregate matrix are formed by a special method so that maximum stability regions may be obtained both for the free subsystems and for the overall system.

Self-powered broadband photodetectors utilizing 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are highly promising due to their remarkable light absorption capabilities and high sensitivity, making them suitable for applications such as military surveillance and wireless light detection systems. However, their performance is constrained by inadequate absorption, suboptimal charge carrier separation, and slow response times. In response to these limitations, the study fabricates a self-powered photodetector employing a heterostructure composed of WS2 nanoparticles anchored to CVD-synthesized MoS2, operating within the visible to near-infrared spectrum. The device demonstrates a responsivity of 283 mA W−1 and a detectivity 6.44 × 1012 Jones, alongside an external quantum efficiency of 61% under exposure of 580 nm. In comparison to pristine MoS2, the MoS2-WS2 photodetector exhibited approximately 12-fold and 11-fold enhancements in responsivity and detectivity, respectively, in addition to fast response time of ≈375 µs and 6 ms. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are used to analyze the increase in dark current that is observed following WS₂ nanoparticle anchored on MoS₂. This investigation highlights the potential of 2D heterostructures in the development of high-performance broadband photodetectors, which offer improved responsivity, stability, and self-powered operation for advanced optoelectronic applications. © 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Distributed Prescribed-Time Observer for Nonlinear Systems

This paper proposes a distributed prescribed-time observer for nonlinear systems representable in a block-triangular observable canonical form. Using a weighted average of neighbor estimates exchanged over a strongly connected digraph, each observer estimates the system state despite limited local sensor measurements. The proposed design guarantees that distributed state estimation errors converge to zero at a user-specified convergence time, irrespective of observers’ initial conditions. To achieve this prescribed-time convergence, distributed observers implement time-varying local output injection gains that asymptotically approach infinity as the prescribed time is approached. One of the main challenges facing hyperspectral image super-resolution is the complex high-dimensional data processing. Mamba leverages its ability to model long-range dependencies of linear complexity to capture the global spatial and spectral information of high-dimensional data while maintaining linear complexity. However, its visual state space equation mainly focuses on the band dimension mapping of the image, while ignoring the modeling of the spatial dimension. To overcome this limitation, we develop a Mamba hyperspectral image super-resolution framework, which comprises three essential components. The first component, i.e., the spatial Mamba subnetwork, models the spatial dimensions of hyperspectral data. It captures long-range dependencies in the pixel space, thereby integrating global spatial information into the framework. The second component, i.e., the spectral Mamba subnetwork, serves to capture long-range spectral dependencies. The third component, i.e., reconstruction, generates hyperspectral images with rich spatial and spectral details through pixel interpolation. Our Mamba framework fully develops the potential of the Mamba model in hyperspectral image super-resolution, significantly enhancing the restoration quality and accuracy of hyperspectral images. Extensive experiments on the Houston and QUST-1 datasets show that our framework outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both quantitative metrics and visual quality across diverse scenarios. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Fast implementation of the forward positional acceleration of robots via the distributed arithmetic technique

This paper refers to the fast implementation of the positional forward acceleration of the end effector of revolute robotic arms with spherical wrists, using the distributed arithmetic technique. The acceleration of the end effector is calculated by a cascade configuration of two pipelined arrays that calculate the Jacobian matrix and its time derivative, as well as the centrifugal-Coriolis and linear accelerations. These partial accelerations are then added in the adder tree. The building blocks of the arrays are the distributed arithmetic-based circuits that implement the matrix-vector multiplications involved in the calculations. The digit-serial configuration of the proposed implementation of the positional forward acceleration of the end effector is described. The serial and the parallel configurations may result as special cases of the digit-serial configuration. The proposed distributed arithmetic (DA) implementation of the positional forward acceleration may be applied, after appropriate modifications, to the general case of robots having either revolute or prismatic joints, with any type of wrist.

This article proposes a roadmap to address the current challenges in small-scale testbeds for Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and robot swarms. The roadmap is a joint effort of participants in the workshop "1st Workshop on Small-Scale Testbeds for Connected and Automated Vehicles and Robot Swarms," held on June 2 at the IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV) 2024 in Jeju, South Korea. The roadmap contains three parts: 1) enhancing accessibility and diversity, especially for underrepresented communities, 2) sharing best practices for the development and maintenance of testbeds, and 3) connecting testbeds through an abstraction layer to support collaboration. The workshop features eight invited speakers, four contributed papers [1]–[4], and a presentation of a survey paper on testbeds [5]. This study investigates the intelligent systems to evaluate walking interventions on skin thickness using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). The walking durations of 10 and 20 min were conducted with participants wearing insoles providing 160 mmHg air pressure. Skin thickness in the stratum corneum (SC) and epidermis (ED) was measured at four-foot regions: the big toe (T1), first metatarsal (M1), second metatarsal (M2), and heel (HL). Results revealed a significant decrease in SC at HL after 20 min of walking. This finding suggests that prolonged walking with air-pressure insoles may reduce mechanical stress at HL and could contribute to preventing and managing diabetic foot ulcers.
