Task scheduling algorithms have a huge impact by handling and executing users' requests in a data-center that serves a Cloud System. A problem very close to the industry is the capability to estimate costs, especially when switching from one provider to another. In this paper we introduce an agreement-based scheduling algorithm, aimed to bring an adaptive fault tolerant system. For the agreement protocol we proposed a 3-Tier structure of resources (hosts and VMs). Then an adaptive mechanism for agreement establishment is described. The scheduling algorithm considers workload distribution, resources heterogeneity, transparency, adaptability and also the ease to extend by combining with other scheduling algorithms. Based on simulation experiments, we can draw the conclusion that an agreement based algorithm improves both scheduling in Cloud and the mapping of SLAs at lower levels, possibly ensuring the same cost on data-centers belonging to different providers. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2013.

Prediction represents an important component of resource management, providing information about the future state, utilization and availability of resources. We propose a new prediction algorithm inspired from the decomposition of a complex wave into simpler waves with fixed frequencies (similar to Fourier decomposition). The partial results obtained from this decomposition stage are combined using approaches inspired from artificial intelligence models. The experimental results for different system parameters, used in Alice experiment, highlight the great improvement, discussed in terms of error reduction, offered by this new prediction algorithm. The tests were made using real-time monitoring data provided by a system monitoring tool, in the case of one-step and multi-step ahead prediction. The prediction's results can be used by the resource management systems in order to improve the scheduling decisions, assuring the load balancing and optimizing the resource utilization. © 2010 IEEE.

A large number of scheduling algorithms for large scale distributed systems have been proposed, studied and compared. In spite of this, there are few studies comparing the performance of scheduling algorithms considering at the same time the distributed system structure on which we want to schedule the tasks;the type of directed acyclic graph (DAG), in which graph nodes represent tasks and graph edges represent data transfers;and the type of tasks, for example CPU-bound vs. I/O bound. This paper proposes a method for selecting, in a dynamic manner, the most appropriate scheduling algorithm for a particular distributed system, after a previous analysis. Choosing the best known scheduling algorithm can improve performance of an application if all the aspects previously enumerated are considered. The results of this paper consist in a comparison of the scheduling algorithms performance for the following scheduling algorithms: Modified Critical Path, Cluster ready Children First, Earliest Time First, Highest Level First with Estimated Times and Hybrid Remapper Minimum Partial Completion Time Static Priority. However, the main purpose of this investigation tests is to demonstrate the usefulness of the presented scheduling approach using these results. © 2010 IEEE.

The SORMSYS project's main goal is to optimize resource management in large scale distributed systems with the capability of self-organization. This paper will present the design of management architecture based on existing middleware solutions through the design of algorithms and methods inspired by natural models. The architecture is full decentralized and it will aim to optimize resource management in different types of distributed systems such as Grid, P2P, and Cloud. The important components considered for the architecture are: allocation of resources, task scheduling, resource discovery, monitoring resources and provide fault tolerance. The SORMSYS project aims to highlights the original obtained results in internationally scientific community. The paper also presents the expecting results and discusses the performance evaluation of proposed architecture. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents a distributed solution of the synchronization of Business Intelligence (BI) Systems via networking services. The main problem addressed by the proposed project is to create a common solution that allows automatically redeploying of business intelligence applications among different servers located in the Internet. A case study by using the Microsoft BizTalk Server as a Business Intelligence system is presented included in a research project called PrO Processor. The research came as a necessity because of the lack of support for remote deployment of applications via Internet. Our solution overcomes this issue and presents the synchronization architecture capable of transporting, installing and starting BI applications, orchestrations and ports to any number of BI servers in the Internet. © 2010 IEEE.

Robust adaptive sliding mode control design for uncertain stochastic systems with time-varying delay

Based on a least square wavelet kernel support vector machine (LS-SVM) and a hybrid wavelet kernel least square SVM, two adaptive integral sliding mode control schemes are presented for uncertain stochastic systems with time-varying delay. Adaptive parameter is chosen based on estimation of uncertain function and Swarm Optimization algorithm. First, an integral sliding surface is constructed. Using the linear matrix inequalities, a sufficient condition for the existence of sliding surface is then derived. This condition guarantees the global stochastic stability of stochastic dynamics in the specified switching surface. Next, LS-SVM is used to establish an adaptive controller. Also, an on-line learning rule for the weight vector and bias term are derived. Simulation results show that the proposed controllers can achieve a satisfactory performance. © 2017, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Breast cancer is one of the most common causes of death among women worldwide. Early detection helps in reducing the number of deaths. Automated 3D Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) is a newer approach for breast screening, which has many advantages over handheld mammography such as safety, speed, and higher detection rate of breast cancer. Tumor detection, segmentation, and classification are key components in the analysis of medical images, especially challenging in the context of 3D ABUS due to the significant variability in tumor size and shape, unclear tumor boundaries, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. The lack of publicly accessible, well-labeled ABUS datasets further hinders the advancement of systems for breast tumor analysis. Addressing this gap, we have organized the inaugural Tumor Detection, Segmentation, and Classification Challenge on Automated 3D Breast Ultrasound 2023 (TDSC-ABUS2023). This initiative aims to spearhead research in this field and create a definitive benchmark for tasks associated with 3D ABUS image analysis. In this paper, we summarize the top-performing algorithms from the challenge and provide critical analysis for ABUS image examination. We offer the TDSC-ABUS challenge as an open-access platform at https://***/ to benchmark and inspire future developments in1algorithmic research. © 2025, CC BY.

Diversity of loads, resistive and inductive, monophase and three phase, balanced and unbalanced, developed with power electronics or not, led to power quality problems at consumer level. Problems that can be resolved locally with active or passive filters connected on loads terminal or global, by connecting in CCP (Common Coupling Point) a four wire three phase shunt active power filter (APF), solution chosen for this study. This paper presents a comparison between three control algorithms of a three phase 4-wire 4-leg active power filter. Comparative analysis was made based on the level of THD, power factor and unbalance level. The results were obtained by simulation in Matlab/Simulink software. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes the calibration procedure of a CCD digital camera based on the perspective projection method. The idea of this method is to calibrate the camera in order to extract precise three dimensional information from the images so that they can be used for the computer vision and similar applications which take the images acquired from the camera as an input. The image capturing process reduces the dimensions of data from three to two. The camera calibration procedure determines which light source is associated with each pixel on the resulting image. Since the camera used in the process is a complex CCD camera, errors resulting from the misaligned lenses and deformations in their structures result in more complex distortions in the acquired image. In order to associate the points in the cameras image space with the locations in a 3D world space the camera projection matrix consisting of the estimated intrinsic and extrinsic parametars is calculated. The calibration process is comprised of capturing calibration images and processing them in order to get the intrinsic and extrinsic camera parameters. The results of the calibration are tested using the test images captured with the same camera. The calibration process was implemented using a MATLAB software package. © 2012 MIPRO.

Considering that most faults in overhead power lines are transient, fast and reliable algorithms for determining types of faults are needed. Reliable algorithm allows design of adaptive system for improving service continuity by automatically restoring power to the line after a momentary fault. This paper describes the procedure for real-time adjustment of algorithm for detection of arc faults in overhead power lines. This adjustment refers to real-time implementation of algorithm on DSP microcontroller. Given the nature of the problem and strict requirements for testing algorithm in real experiment, procedure for testing hardware in simulation loop is developed. Hardware in the loop (HIL) technique is based on MATLAB/Simulink, NI CB-68LP data acquisition card and simplified simulation model of faults in overhead power lines. © 2018 IEEE.
