The high-performance length cutting lines of the strip use the Flying Shear, a mechanism that is moved by a vector controlled three-phase asynchronous motor. The operating principle of the cutting line involves a complex dynamic regime, continuous cutting of the strip in sheet at a maximum speed of 45 meters per minute (mpm), where the entire mechanism of the flying shear are moving backward and forward to perform the cut and return to zero point position. Due to the frequents reversing process, the objective of this paper is to optimize the dynamic regimes of the process in order to minimize the energy consumption. From the hierarchical control architecture, the induction motor control is performed at the First Level, where the PLC device sets the direction of movement and the speed value reference, and a Simotion Drives (D425) transforms the PLC's sets into electrical AC voltage signals settings that supply the motor. The complex dynamic operating mode of the motor is given by cutting sequence process: the normal cutting sequence at constant line speed, to which is added the continuous speed changes required by the human operator or the line speed deceleration regime in the event of stop or breakdown conditions. © 2021 IEEE.

Many application from the bee colony health state monitoring could be efficiently solved using a computer vision techniques. One of such challenges is an efficient way for counting the number of incoming and outcoming bees, which could be used to further analyse many trends, such as the bee colony health state, blooming periods, or for investigating the effects of agricultural spraying. In this paper, we compare three methods for the automated bee counting over two own datasets. The best performing method is based on the ResNet-50 convolutional neural network classifier, which achieved accuracy of 87% over the BUT1 dataset and the accuracy of 93% over the BUT2 dataset.

This study investigates the concept of multiband graphene THz antennas. We investigate the advantages of graphene in THz antenna applications with standard materials. Using a graphene strip, we built a multiband GSSPlp-MIMO antenna in this study that achieves triple operating frequencies of 7.64 THz, 9.57 THz, and 10.90 THz. The reflection response (S11) of -29.2135 dB, which shows excellent signal confinement within the antenna, was greatly improved upon the inclusion of graphene. Superior impedance matching was the trade-off for this, even if the gain decreased slightly (10.41 dB) in comparison to the antenna without graphene (12.30 dB). The parameters are optimized using machine learning, yielding a maximum accuracy (R2) of 0.996622 and a mean square error of 5.3934 ×10-5. This indicates that high-performance terahertz antennas that balance gain and effective signal transmission can be designed using graphene. The antenna's capacity to handle multiple bands makes it ideal for future ultra-broadband wireless communication systems. This results in higher data transfer rates and supports emerging technologies such as 6G and beyond. © 2024 IEEE.

Multiphase LLC Resonant Converter with Natural Current Sharing and Phase-Shedding

The multiphase LLC converter is commonly used for high-power and high step-down applications. However, the tolerances in the tank circuit parameters cause uneven current sharing (CS), reducing system reliability. Additionally, phase-shedding (PS) can improve converter efficiency at partial load by turning-OFF phases. This paper proposes a multiphase input-parallel output-parallel LLC resonant converter with a common inductor-capacitor branch, with the objective to achieve excellent CS and phase-shedding at the same time. Thanks to the shared branch, current-sharing is natural, and phase-shedding is realized without affecting the operating point. With fewer passive comp- onents and a simple phase connection, the design offers low-cost, high-power density, and improved light-load efficiency compared to existing solutions. Detailed analysis shows improved CS on both the primary and secondary sides, when compared to previous approaches. Simulation and experimental results for the proposed two-phase LLC resonant converter validate the analysis and illustrate the effectiveness of the CS and PS capabilities. At the rated load of 800 W, CS error is 2.48% on the primary side and 2.0% on the secondary side. Phase-shedding improves efficiency by 3.60% at 50% load and 6.82% at 25% load. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Detecting anomalies in satellite telemetry data is pivotal in ensuring its safe operations. Although there exist various data-driven techniques for the task of determining abnormal parts of the signal, they are virtually never validated over real telemetries. Analyzing such data is challenging due to its intrinsic characteristics, as telemetry may be noisy and affected by incorrect acquisition, resulting in missing parts of the signal. In this paper, we tackle this issue and propose a machine learning approach for detecting anomalies in single-channel satellite telemetry. To validate its capabilities in a practical scenario, we build a dataset capturing the nominal and anomalous telemetry data captured on board OPS-SAT—a nanosatellite launched and operated by the European Space Agency. Our extensive experimental study showed that the proposed algorithm offers high-quality anomaly detection in real-life satellite telemetry, reaching 98.4% accuracy over the unseen test set. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In addition to its use in building and agriculture, global solar irradiance is one of the most critical aspects in designing and considering any solar station's volume. Because the Iraqi metrological organization and seismology lack exact information regarding irradiance, this project aims to use historical global data, develop numerical analysis using artificial neural networks, and forecast hourly irradiance. The test is run over Basra to determine references to their nearest places. The learning technique in this study is a forward neural network (FNN) and time series neural network. Their comparison depends on seven input variables: temperature, wind speed, wind direction, sunshine duration, and date. One of the most essential integrated and impactful events for managing the system of new and renewable energy sources in the power grid is accurate solar energy forecasting. The study offers a valuable method for forecasting solar energy generation using neural networks. It is difficult to apply neural networks to anticipate PV power generation because of the unpredictability of variations in the weather; unlike traditional mathematical models, which struggle to handle complicated nonlinear interactions and provide poor predictions, neural network approaches achieve superior prediction performance. The suggested forecasting model based on neural networks provides a practical means of raising the accuracy of PV generation estimation

This paper presents a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation methodology for teleoperating the cable-driven manipulator system. This system includes a joystick device, designated as a delta robot, used for controlling the manipulator by the HIL simulation technique in the teleoperation system. First of all, the kinematic mathematics of multiple Degrees of freedom (DOF) manipulator is verified with the HIL simulation method. Furthermore, the teleoperation algorithm is employed to guarantee the simultaneous utilization of the two workspaces. Besides, the joystick device is connected to the manipulator on Matlab Simulink 2022b to generate the communication protocol for teleoperation control. Finally, the effectiveness of the HIL simulation method is evaluated by some experiments on the teleoperated cable-driven manipulator system. © 2024 IEEE.

Grid-forming converters are widely envisioned to be the cornerstone of future converter-dominated power systems. However, standard grid forming (GFM) control strategies assume a fully controllable source with enough headroom behind the converter and only implicitly address renewable generation limits through the converter limits. This can lead to instabilities on time scales of both primary and secondary frequency control and jeopardize the safe and reliable operation of electric power systems. In this work, we leverage the recently proposed dual-port GFM control that maps power imbalances in the grid to the power generation interfaced by the power converter. We show that this mechanism allows for considering and transparently addressing limits of renewable generation (e.g., solar photovoltaics and wind) in primary and secondary frequency control. We illustrate that renewable generation using dual-port GFM control can directly integrate into prevailing secondary control methods such as automatic generation control (AGC). Moreover, we discuss the limitations of standard AGC when one or more areas of a power system are dominated by renewable generation and propose an anti-windup strategy to address the power generation limits of renewables. Finally, we verify our findings in a time-domain, electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation.

The electromagnetic interference (EMI) problem caused by power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) affects the normal operation of the motor drive system. In this paper, a random PWM based on unified modulation is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. The theoretical basis of unified modulation and the implementation scheme of random modulation are analyzed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed random PWM is verified by simulation.

The quotient of two multivariate Gaussian densities can be written as an unnormalized Gaussian density, which has been applied in some recently developed multiple-model fixed-interval smoothing algorithms. However, this expression is invalid if instead of being positive definite, the covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density is indefinite (i.e., it has both positive and negative eigenvalues) or undefined (i.e., computing it requires inverting a singular matrix). This paper considers approximating the quotient of two Gaussian densities in this case using two different approaches to mitigate the caused numerical problems. The first approach directly replaces the indefinite covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density with a positive definite matrix nearest to it. The second approach computes the approximation through solving, using the natural gradient, an optimization problem with a Kullback-Leibler divergence-based cost function. This paper illustrates the application of the theoretical results by incorporating them into an existing smoothing method for jump Markov systems and utilizing the obtained smoothers to track a maneuvering target. © 2023 International Society of Information Fusion.
