Two-dimensional confined topological modes in all dielectric guided mode resonance structure through surface features

Guided mode resonance (GMR) structures offer simplicity and have spectral resonance capabilities such as narrowband resonance, high Q-factor, whereas topological surface features offer spatial light control. In this paper, we explore the integration of the GMR structures with topological photonics to achieve extreme two-dimensional (2D) spatial confinement of light. With this integration, we propose a novel design that leverages discontinuous surface features (crosscut) to excite Jackiw—Rebbi (JR) solution, which describes relationship between Dirac equation and topological insulators. Finite element modelling, considering various structural and material parameters, demonstrate a 40% improvement in light confinement compared to benchmark GMR structures, with a calculated full width half maximum (FWHM) of the confined optical mode measured to be approximately ~ 18 ± 3 nm. This FWHM value represent the spatial extent of the confined optical field, indicating the achieved field localization in the proposed structures. This significant enhancement showcases the potential of our approach for applications demanding ultra- precise spatial resolution. Furthermore, tolerance studies reveal good robustness to variations in the dimensions of the crosscut and angle of polarization, ensuring practical feasibility. The proposed structure exhibited good tolerance of up to ~ ± 10%. This work paves the way for highly confined 2D light manipulation within all- dielectric platforms, opening exciting avenues for nanophotonic devices and applications requiring light localization. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Developing a photovoltaic energy generation forecast system using neural networks

Photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the trending and alternative sources of energy. Harnessing reliable energy in these PV panels is a cumbersome task equipped with several challenges such as continuous monitoring, adaptability in varying weather conditions, solar irradiance, wind speed and many more. It requires an optimized system to forecast solar energy efficiently. Thus, the given paper introduces a subnet-based feed forward neural network (SFFNN) to forecast solar PV energy generation based on varying weather conditions. The neural network is trained using Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) algorithm to discover connections among learning variables in the neural network. LM algorithm optimizes SFFNN by avoiding training failures and performing forward as well as backward computation for all neurons in the network layer thereby leading to faster convergence rate. Lastly, the performance of the proposed SFFNN is validated and compared with existing recent studies based on metrics such as root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Fake news, Fake certification, and Plagiarism are the most common issues arising these days. During this COVID-19 situation, there are a lot of rumors and fake news spreading and some of us are using fake certification to avoid vaccination and plagiarism became the most common topic during online studies. It is found that several apps and websites are present for the detection of false news and plagiarism. However, there is no single website for the detection of fake certificates. Moreover, nothing is made that consists of all these features in one platform. So, this proposed work develops a website for detecting fake news, Fake certificate, and plagiarism detector. The proposed method uses Natural Language Processing techniques for detecting NPC (news, plagiarism, and certificate). The proposed work uses image processing with some Python libraries like OpenCV in all the detections and that makes it quite interesting. For detecting NPC (news, plagiarism, and certificate) the algorithm is built using a k-mean model, logistic regression, and neural network. The proposed work uses the datasets that are trained using the count vectorizer method for the detection and to get its accuracy which will be tested using machine learning algorithms. Foreign object debris detection in lane images using deep learning methodology

Background: Foreign object debris (FOD) is an unwanted substance that damages vehicular systems, most commonly the wheels of vehicles. In airport runways, these foreign objects can damage the wheels or internal systems of planes, potentially leading to flight crashes. Surveys indicate that FOD-related damage costs over $4 billion annually, affecting airlines, airport tenants, and passengers. Current FOD clearance involves high-cost radars and significant manpower, and existing radar and camera-based surveillance methods are expensive to install. Methods: This work proposes a video-based deep learning methodology to address the high cost of radar-based FOD detection. The proposed system consists of two modules for FOD detection: object classification and object localization. The classification module categorizes FOD into specific types of foreign objects. In the object localization module, these classified objects are pinpointed in video frames. Results: The proposed system was experimentally tested with a large video dataset and compared with existing methods. The results demonstrated improved accuracy and robustness, allowing the FOD clearance team to quickly detect and remove foreign objects, thereby enhancing the safety and efficiency of airport runway operations. © 2025 S et al.

Sequential Overlapping HARQ Durations With Guaranteed Delay

In this work, an overlapping Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) duration scheme for periodic time-critical packets is proposed to efficiently utilize wireless resources while guaranteeing delay constraints. In the proposed scheme, the HARQ duration for each packet is determined by partially overlapping it with the HARQ duration of the preceding packet, with the transmission of a packet being conditional on the completion of the preceding one. A novel mathematical analysis of the proposed scheme is presented. This analysis is used to derive both non-overlapping and overlapping HARQ durations for each packet. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme reduces the total HARQ duration for transmitting multiple time-critical packets and significantly improves throughput. © 2012 IEEE.

Numerical simulation and performance optimization of non-toxic Cs2TiBr6 single-halide perovskite solar cell by introducing interfacial defect layers

Recently, lead-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) grabbed the worldwide popularity in photovoltaic industry owing to its remarkable properties. Few challenges such as toxic elements, instability, low shelf life etc. restricts the use of inorganic–organic lead based PSCs. To overcome these issues, eco-friendly, lead-free and stable cesium titanium (Cs2TiBr6) single-halide based absorber material have been introduced. In this work, FTO/SnO2/ Cs2TiBr6/MoOx/Au structure has been simulated by SCAPS-1D. The factors such as light absorbing layer thickness including charge transport layer thickness, doping, defect density, operating temperature, quantum efficiency etc. have thoroughly been examined in relation to different characteristics of PSCs. After calculation of all these parameters then a comparison is made between the proposed (Cs2TiBr6) structure with the previously reported experimental and simulation based Cs2TiBr6 perovskite structures. As a result, maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) reached upto 20.11% along a FF = 82.17, Voc = 1.488 V, and Jsc = 16.34 mA/cm2. Hence, this work motivates the researchers to fabricate the highly efficient, low-toxic and stable PSCs in future for solar cell industry. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

This paper explores the integration of Ultra-Dense Networks (UDN), Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA), and Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) to address the pressing need for efficient resource utilization in 5G and emerging 6G systems. This is particularly promising for applications in high-density smart cities and IoT systems where energy conservation and spectrum efficiency are crucial. By adopting NOMA for spectral efficiency (SE) and SWIPT for sustainable energy harvesting (EH), we present a framework that maximizes UDN performance in terms of capacity, coverage, and energy efficiency (EE). Through simulation, we demonstrate that this NOMA-SWIPT-enhanced UDN model effectively reduces energy consumption and mitigates spectral and energy inefficiencies, offering a scalable and efficient solution for dense, next-generation wireless networks. © 2025 IEEE.

Due to recent expansion of wireless communications, it has become impossible to cope with the allotment of the precious spectrum while resources for wireless communication are bounded and finite. Hence, the cognitive radio concept is introduced to ensure optimal utilization of these invaluable resources. By emerging research in the field of cognitive radio network, fresh researchers are looking for a suitable simulator for the cognitive radio network since the implementation and testbed is not practical and feasible invariably. Moreover, there is no simulator that has been designed with cognitive radio networks in mind. Furthermore, this research area is relatively new. Therefore, often it becomes very hard to decide which network simulator to work with, as the availability of reference is significantly low. As a result, much effort is required to make a proper decision. In this paper, we take a detailed look at current simulators used by researchers in the field of cognitive radio networks to help researchers identify appropriate tools for simulation. To further aid researchers, we classify the simulation tools, demonstrate their architectures, describe features, elucidate advantages and disadvantages of these tools, and report some open issues and challenges for future research. © 2025 The Authors.
