YARN Schedulers for Hadoop MapReduce Jobs: Design Goals, Issues and Taxonomy

Objective: Big Data processing is a demanding task, and several big data processing frameworks have emerged in recent decades. The performance of these frameworks is greatly dependent on resource management models. Methods: YARN is one of such models which acts as a resource management layer and provides computational resources for execution engines (Spark, MapReduce, storm, etc.) through its schedulers. The most important aspect of resource management is job scheduling. Results: In this paper, we first present the design goal of YARN real-life schedulers (FIFO, Capacity, and Fair) for the MapReduce engine. Later, we discuss the scheduling issues of the Hadoop MapReduce cluster. Conclusion: Many efforts have been carried out in the literature to address issues of data locality, heterogeneity, straggling, skew mitigation, stragglers and fairness in Hadoop MapReduce scheduling. Lastly, we present the taxonomy of different scheduling algorithms available in the literature based on some factors like environment, scope, approach, objective and addressed issues. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

Noise robust automatic speech recognition: review and analysis

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) system is an emerging technology used in various fields such as robotics, traffic controls, and healthcare, etc. The leading cause of ASR performance degradation is mismatch between the training and testing environments. The main reason for this mismatch is the presence of noise during the testing phase of an ASR system. Various techniques have been used by different researchers in front and backend phases of ASR, to detect and handle the noise. However, a very few review papers have considered noise as a criterion to present the comparison among the existing research works. Hence, the objective of this survey is to analyze and review all the effective methods proposed by different scientists and researchers to boost the noise robustness of an ASR system. Initially, the paper discusses the basic architecture of an ASR system, the factors affecting the its performance, and noise problem formulation. Secondly, the work analysis existing state of the art noise robust ASR methods in terms of front end feature extraction techniques and backend classification model. Then, a detailed review in terms of various speech databases, that are used by these methods, is given. Finally, an analysis in terms of performance metrics of all these noise-resistant ASR techniques is presented. Also, the paper discusses various feature extraction techniques, backend classification methods, different speech databases and performance metrics in detail, while presenting the analysis. Semantic segmentation is an important sub-task for many ***,pixel-level ground-truth labeling is costly,and there is a tendency to overfit to training data,thereby limiting the generalization *** domain adaptation can potentially address these problems by allowing systems trained on labelled datasets from the source domain(including less expensive synthetic domain)to be adapted to a novel target *** conventional approach involves automatic extraction and alignment of the representations of source and target domains *** limitation of this approach is that it tends to neglect the differences between classes:representations of certain classes can be more easily extracted and aligned between the source and target domains than others,limiting the adaptation over all ***,we address:this problem by introducing a Class-Conditional Domain Adaptation(CCDA)*** incorporates a class-conditional multi-scale discriminator and class-conditional losses for both segmentation and ***,they measure the segmentation,shift the domain in a classconditional manner,and equalize the loss over *** results demonstrate that the performance of our CCDA method matches,and in some cases,surpasses that of state-of-the-art methods.

In modern wireless tele- communication, the key element for better and higher performance of the communication system is an Antenna. An antenna which removes all complex issues of weather, scattering and effects of multiple paths is in demand for current wireless system issues. The Antenna with Reconfiguration capabilities in current scenario solves these issues. The popularity of Reconfiguration in antennas has seen a significant growth due to its versatile capabilities. Therefore, reconfiguration in the structure of an Antenna without changing the physical dimensions and saving space realize the goal of high speed, gain, channel capacity and signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNR). In this paper a brief knowledge of various methods of designing a reconfiguration antenna is reviewed. The different switching techniques used for the activating the reconfiguration mechanism is discussed. The advancement of reconfiguration in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems is also studied. © 2024 IEEE.

The Wireless Sensor Network(WSN)is a network that is constructed in regions that are inaccessible to human *** widespread deployment of wireless micro sensors will make it possible to conduct accurate environmental monitoring for a use in both civil and military *** make use of these data to monitor and keep track of the physical data of the surrounding environment in order to ensure the sustainability of the *** data have to be picked up by the sensor,and then sent to the sink node where they may be *** nodes of the WSNs are powered by batteries,therefore they eventually run out of *** energy restriction has an effect on the network life span and environmental *** objective of this study is to further improve the Engroove Leach(EL)protocol’s energy efficiency so that the network can operate for a very long time while consuming the least amount of *** lifespan of WSNs is being extended often using clustering and routing *** Meta Inspired Hawks Fragment Optimization(MIHFO)system,which is based on passive clustering,is used in this study to do *** cluster head is chosen based on the nodes’residual energy,distance to neighbors,distance to base station,node degree,and node *** on distance,residual energy,and node degree,an algorithm known as Heuristic Wing Antfly Optimization(HWAFO)selects the optimum path between the cluster head and Base Station(BS).They examine the number of nodes that are active,their energy consumption,and the number of data packets that the BS *** overall experimentation is carried out under the MATLAB *** the analysis,it has been discovered that the suggested approach yields noticeably superior outcomes in terms of throughput,packet delivery and drop ratio,and average energy consumption.

A hybrid convolutional neural network for sarcasm detection from multilingual social media posts

Sarcasm in social media postings significantly impacts automated sentiment extraction due to its potential to invert the overall polarity of phrases. It poses a formidable challenge in extracting genuine sentiments from informal multilingual comments about events or individuals, especially when the message is in a multilingual form. The prevalence of noisy datasets further complicates this task. This work proposes a hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN-H) model to classify sarcastic and non-sarcastic statements. Unlike traditional CNN models, CNN-H integrates character and word embeddings, enhancing its capacity to handle the complexities of multilingual content. Evaluation on five benchmark datasets, including English (news headlines, Ghosh Tweet, Riloff Tweet), Hindi, and multilingual Hindi-English (Hinglish), demonstrates the superior performance of CNN-H. The model surpasses various state-of-the-art conventional machine-learning and deep-learning models, including CNN, achieving an impressive F1-score of 93.0% on the multilingual dataset. The incorporation of character and word embeddings proves pivotal in mitigating the impact of noisy datasets, prevalent in social media posts. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Enhancing link prediction in graph data augmentation through graphon mixup

Link prediction in complex networks is a fundamental problem with applications in diverse domains, from social networks to biological systems. Traditional approaches often struggle to capture intricate relationships in graphs, leading to suboptimal predictions. To address this, we introduce a novel method called graphon mixup (GM), which leverages the power of graphons to enhance link prediction. The augmentation strategy involves generating a synthetic graph by combining the original graph with a graphon-based synthetic graph. This process, expressed as a weighted combination of adjacency matrices, strategically blends real and synthetic information, enriching the training dataset. GM formulates link prediction as a joint optimization problem, aligning the characteristics of the synthetic graph with the true underlying structure. The objective is to minimize cross-entropy loss between predicted and true edge probabilities. A detailed computational complexity analysis evaluates the time and space requirements, aiding in understanding the efficiency and scalability of GM across different datasets and network sizes. Empirical validation on benchmark datasets demonstrates GM’s effectiveness in consistently improving average precision across diverse network types. The proposed method enhances the generalization capabilities of link prediction models, providing a more robust framework capable of accurate predictions even in the presence of noise or unseen patterns. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Malware image classification: comparative analysis of a fine-tuned CNN and pre-trained models

A crucial part is played by malware detection and classification in ensuring the safety and security of computer systems. In this work, a comprehensive study has been presented for the classification of harmful or malware images that uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) which has been finely tuned and its performance has been compared with five pre-trained models: ResNet50, InceptionResNetV2, VGG16, Xception and InceptionV3. The suggested CNN framework has been trained using the dataset MalImg_9010, consisting of 9,376 grayscale images resized to 128 × 128 pixels. The models have been evaluated based on their F1 score, recall, precision, and accuracy. The experiments that were conducted demonstrate that the fine-tuned CNN model achieves an impressive 0.965 as the F1 score and a 95.57% accuracy. Furthermore, the comparison with pre-trained models reveals the dominance of the presented framework concerning the F1 score and accuracy. The output of the conducted simulation suggests that the fine-tuned CNN approach shows promise for accurate malware image classification. Additionally, the paper discusses potential improvements, such as increasing the number of training epochs and incorporating larger and more diverse malware datasets, including RGB images and a broader range of malware families. The current research article gives valuable observations on various models’ effectiveness for classifying malware images and highlights the future scopes for research incorporating this domain. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

An ensemble approach for classification of diabetic retinopathy in fundus image

Diabetes-oriented diabetic retinopathy impacts the blood vessels in the region of the retina to enlarge and leak blood and other fluids. In most cases, diabetic retinopathy affects both eyes. If left untreated, it would eventually lead to blindness. Diabetic Retinopathy is so widespread that around 93 million adults are affected by it on a worldwide scale. Early identification and treatment would reduce the danger of serious diabetic retinopathy visual impairment. To achieve early detection, we can make use of our advancement in image processing to diagnose how severely the patient is affected by diabetic retinopathy. Using a patient’s fundus image and modern deep learning methods, we will be able to classify the result into five categories of severity: unaffected, severe, mild, moderate, and proliferate. Based on the results, the doctor would be able to determine what type of treatment is required to further avoid vision loss. The strategy outlined in this work is to employ five well-known deep learning models, namely Inception ResNet V2, VGG19, Xception, ResNet50, DenseNet112, and integrate their outcomes successfully utilizing ensemble learning. The experimentation outcome displays that the proposed approach classifies all the classes of Diabetic Retinopathy and performs better compared to other methods with a Specificity of 92.02%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Hybrid classification of XGBoost-based ADAM optimization for coronary artery disease diagnosis

A common cardiovascular illness with high fatality rates is coronary artery disease (CAD). Researchers have been exploring alternative methods to diagnose and assess the severity of CAD that are less invasive, cost-effective, and utilize noninvasive clinical data. Machine learning algorithms have shown promising and potential results. Accordingly, this study focuses on assisting medical practitioners with CAD detection by using a hybrid classification system combining XGBoost and Adam optimization. The primary approach incorporates One-Hot encoding to transform categorical attributes within the dataset, enhancing the precision of predictions. The secondary approach constitutes a hybrid classification model integrating XGBoost and employing Adam optimizations for CAD detections. The efficacy of the recommended method is assessed using the cleveland, Hungarian, and Statlog heart-disease data sets. The proposed system and the standard Grid and Random Search classifiers are compared. The experimental outcomes indicate that the suggested model achieves a notable prediction accuracy of 94.19%. This represents an improvement of 7 to 8% over the existing grid search algorithm and 2 to 3% improvement over the random search algorithm for the above all datasets. Hence, the proposed system can be a valuable tool for identifying CAD patients, offering enhanced prediction accuracy. © 2024 – IOS Press.
