Globalization, industry, and population growth is considered the main reasons for climate change, so when some natural calamity or disaster occurs in any area, it leads to isolating this area from the rest of the region. Wireless ad hoc networks are important in disaster management to reduce losses and costs as they reduce the response, aiding time to save lives. However, they suffer from limited energy, which controls the lifetime of the sensor. Different methods are applied to save energy and increase battery life, such as sleep-awake schedules which assume similar initial energy for all nodes. Domestic partition in a unit disk graph is the production of the maximum possible number of such disjoint dominants. However, it assumes different initial energy levels for all nodes, which is another problem. In this paper, a new broadcast approach based on minimum set data broadcasting is proposed to mini-mize the number of broadcasting messages to increase the battery life during disasters and enhance rescue operations. The proposed minimum rebroadcast algorithm (MSRA) method balances coverage and utilization efficiency by dynamically adjusting node selection based on network conditions. The results show that MSRA significantly reduces power consumption and transmission latency, opening the way to find a new solution for disaster management using wireless ad hoc networks. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

This paper presents harmonic beam steering by employing 2-bit equivalent phases from a 1-bit time-coding element. The space-time-coding (STC) matrix is computed based on the fundamental frequency (fc), the desired mth harmonic, and the desired beam angle (θd). Scattering pattern plots illustrate the radiation pattern at θd for the frequency fc+mf0, and at -θd for fc-mf0, where f0 is the modulation frequency. The symmetry observed in the radiation patterns for ±mth harmonics is attributed to the symmetry between their corresponding optimized 2-bit phase equivalents. However, while using the original 1-bit STC matrix, each harmonic produces symmetrically deflected dual beams directed at ±θd. The proposed concept and design can be applied to millimeter-wave (mmWave) sensing, communications, and imaging. © 2024 IEEE.

Application of a three-phase unified power quality conditioner in a microgrid

In power distribution systems, common issues such as voltage fluctuations, voltage instability, current harmonics, and power imbalances often arise, negatively impacting the stability and power quality (PQ) of the power system. As an advanced power electronics device, the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) can effectively address these problems. Therefore, the integration of UPQC into power distribution lines can enhance the stability and reliability of the power system, providing higher-quality power supply to meet the needs of both users and suppliers for PQ. The authors utilise the TI TMS320F28377D chip as the control core to construct a simple yet highly efficient UPQC system. Through simulation, the correctness of the voltage and current compensation algorithms has been verified, and the overall system feasibility has been validated using a 100-kVA series-shunt inverter. The experimental results show that the voltage compensation range of the UPQC is 380V ± 10%. During sudden current drops, the imbalance rate can be reduced from 85.5% to 1.32% after controlled compensation. During sudden current rises, the imbalance rate can be reduced from 13.1% to 1.56% after controlled compensation. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the UPQC system in improving PQ and system stability in power distribution networks. © 2024 The Author(s). Integrating renewable energy sources into electricity systems has increased the cost and prevalence. Due to the radial design of the conventional grid, connecting DGs to it causes problems with traditional network's protection configuration which is the main focus of this research. Bidirectional power flow that results from integrating DGs influences the network's protection configurations negatively. Relays coordination with high DGs penetration at optimal locations eliminate these challenges, improves network availability and reliability during abnormal operation situations. Analytical method is adopted for the efficient sizing and placement of DGs with grid and also developed Protection Coordination Index techniques for utility grid in the presence of DGs, the relay coordination eliminates false, sympathetic, and blinding of protection by analyzing fault current at PCC. This paper considered the protection coordination index technique to monitor the characteristic of OCR and DOCR functionality, re-coordinate the protection system of the grid with DGs connected, and examine the sensitivity of DGs under normal and abnormal situation on grid protection. Incorporation of distributed generators (DGs) increases the activity of grid, influencing fault currents and power flows, which can lead to an imbalance in the overcurrent relay system. The simulation result of three phase fault at 1km and 3km are 10.076 kA and 8.657 kA with a DGs connected, but 1.442 kA and 1.436 kA without DGs respectively. The result concluded that the closer is DGs to load, the higher fault current flow in the grid which calls for relay coordination of the grid at PCC. © 2024 IEEE.

The Claim-based Priority-Discriminated Channel Access (CPDCA) Method using the Registered Backoff Time Mechanism for IEEE 802.11ah

IEEE 802.11ah is a protocol that adopts the CSMA/CA-based channel access way for Internet of Thing (IOT). This work proposed a newly devised Restricted Access Window (RAW) called the Claiming RAW to let those spontaneous stations having high priority’s uplinked data frames do claims of intending to uplink high priority’s data to reduce collisions. In addition, instead of generating the random backoff time after the collision happens, which the regular CSMA/CA-based 802.11* protocols adopt, this work adopted the registered backoff time mechanism, for which a station registers its next backoff time to IEEE 802.11ah AP when its current channel access is finished, i.e., a station generates the backoff time before the collision happens. Thus, IEEE 802.11ah AP is able to schedule stations’ channel accesses based on stations’ registered backoff time to avoid collisions more effectively. Through the use of the Claiming RAW and the registered backoff time mechanisms, IEEE 802.11ah AP can know which stations have high priority’s uplinked data frames and then schedule these stations to have the higher privilege to access the channel. The simulation results shown that. Comparing with the traditional IEEE 802.11ah, the simulation results shown that the proposed Claim-based Priority-Discriminated Channel Access (CPDCA)method has a lower collision rate and higher throughput in the network environment having the higher number of stations in each time slot;the transmission time of those stations with high priority’s uplinked data frames using the CPDCA mechanism is much lower than that of using the traditional IEEE 802.11ah. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Neighborhood ternary co-occurrence for natural and texture image retrieval

In the today’s digital scenario, everything is turning into digital. It is due to the ease in access and storing of digital media. But it also creates complexity in searching particular image from the huge repository. In the solution text based image retrieval was proposed but it is time consuming and prone to human errors. Content based image retrieval (CBIR) solves the problem by automatically representing images by the image contents. Color, texture, shape etc. are used to extract image features and these features are used to match images. The objective of this research papers is to introduce a new content based feature which is suitable for different types of images. In this paper, a novel pattern feature neighborhood ternary co-occurrence pattern (NTCoP) is proposed. It extracts directional information in eight major angles. Second order derivative highlights the edges. Ternary pattern of those edges are used to compute statistics using co-occurrence. Results on two very popular datasets, one each from natural scenes and textures prove the robustness of the proposed feature as compared to the many state-of-the-art methods. The main highlight of the proposed feature is to capture edge information along with local textural statistics. This simple yet important information helps to represent variety of images efficiently and perform image retrieval on diversified datasets. Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) causes dysfunction in our heart and blood arteries, which frequently results in death or paralysis. Therefore, many lives can be prevented by the early and automatic recognition of CVD. Although this goal has been the subject of numerous studies, performance and dependability can yet be enhanced. This work represents another advancement in that direction. Given that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the primary cause of death worldwide, effective strategies for early detection and management are necessary. To help with CVD prediction and management, we introduce CardioNet, an integrated machine learning framework with strong data analytics and clinical insights. To accurately predict the risk and progression of CVD, CardioNet integrates state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms with a variety of medical data sources, including genetic profiles, imaging data, and electronic health records. CardioNet integrates clinical information and feedback mechanisms to offer customized risk assessment and therapy suggestions. This, in turn, improves patient outcomes and lowers the cost of healthcare. The potential of CardioNet as a comprehensive strategy to counter the widespread threat of CVDs is highlighted. © 2024 IEEE.

Algorithms for steganography are methods of hiding data transfers in media *** machine learning architectures have been presented recently to improve stego image identification performance by using spatial information,and these methods have made it feasible to handle a wide range of problems associated with image *** with little information or low payload are used by information embedding methods,but the goal of all contemporary research is to employ high-payload images for *** address the need for both low-and high-payload images,this work provides a machine-learning approach to steganography image classification that uses Curvelet transformation to efficiently extract characteristics from both type of *** Vector Machine(SVM),a commonplace classification technique,has been employed to determine whether the image is a stego or *** Wavelet Obtained Weights(WOW),Spatial Universal Wavelet Relative Distortion(S-UNIWARD),Highly Undetectable Steganography(HUGO),and Minimizing the Power of Optimal Detector(MiPOD)steganography techniques are used in a variety of experimental scenarios to evaluate the performance of the *** WOW at several payloads,the proposed approach proves its classification accuracy of 98.60%.It exhibits its superiority over SOTA methods.

Mental stress has been a major issue among all age groups today. This is more like a stigma in the society where people don't even want to talk about it openly leading to severe health issues. Nowadays, people are deeply engaged with social media platforms for connection and self-expression of their emotions. They express all these through posts, photos, and comments. Thus, social media platforms can help in predicting the mental state and well-being of an individual. Prediction of a person's mental health can help to undertake some preventive measures. Various researchers have worked around this topic but there is no evidence of utilizing the most active web of people for obtaining the most accurate results. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are used in this research study to identify whether a person is mentally stressed or not based on the social media data obtained from the user's post or by using a text input of around hundred words from users related to their day-to-day activities. This research study has used a decision tree, random forest, and Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (referred as BERT onwards) model classifier to train models. This study has used a dataset of Reddit (a social media platform) posts text data for training the models. The primary objective is to compare the efficacy of various machine learning models in predicting mental health based on social media data. © 2024 IEEE.

Generally speaking, the human body cannot be completely stationary, it has some micro movements, and the environment cannot be completely free of interference signals. Thus, the received signal matrix contains noise and interference. How to obtain the respiratory signal from it is a problem that this paper wants to solve. In this paper, we add a method to determine whether the subject is stationary and then choose the received signals with the least amount of body motion. Simulation results show that the estimation performance is improved by the proposed scheme. © 2023 IEEE.
