The Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) is a novel bio-inspired optimization algorithm that mimics the real life processes of the flower pollination. In this paper, we review the applications of the Single Flower Pollination Algorithm (SFPA), Multi-objective Flower Pollination Algorithm an extension of the SFPA and the Hybrid of FPA with other bio-inspired algorithms. The review has shown that there is still a room for the extension of the FPA to Binary FPA. The review presented in this paper can inspire researchers in the bio-inspired algorithms research community to further improve the effectiveness of the PFA as well as to apply the algorithm in other domains for solving real life, complex and nonlinear optimization problems in engineering and industry. Further research and open questions were highlighted in the paper.

This study examined the effects of electromyographic (EMG) signals from Biceps Brachii (BB) muscle on the root mean square (RMS)-time relationships during dynamic contraction. Ten healthy and right hand dominated male subjects were volunteered for the experiments. The RMS features were extracted from the corresponding EMG signals (amplitude of the full wave EMG) for 10 seconds in 5 minutes intervals between each trial. Ten seconds (or 10000 ms) were divided into 4 time lags to identify the muscle activity and relationship between EMG and time using different statistical analysing techniques, such as mean, regression analysis, correlation, ANOVA, and coefficient of variation (CoV) for muscle activity variation. The results shows that large positive linear association between EMG and endurance time where the points are close to the linear trend line (R squared = 0.93 and F-ratio = 453.1). Signal steadiness is better during last time lags (1.66% during 7501-10000 ms) compared to initial time duration (10.35% during 0-2500 ms).

This paper presents the process of Quranic Accent Automatic Identification. Recent feature extraction technique that is used for Quranic verse rule identification/Tajweed include Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) which prone to additive noise and may reduce the classification result. Therefore, to improve the performance of MFCC with addition of Spectral Centroid features and is proposed for used in feature extraction of Quranic accents. Through implementing the Spectral Centroid Feature, it complements in improving the accuracy result of identifying the Quranic accents. The pattern classification algorithm here used the dimensional reduced technique from Probabilistic Principal Component Analysis (PPCA) on the features and Gaussian Mixture Model, in purpose to model the effectiveness of both combination of feature extraction. The accuracy of automatic identification for such Quranic Accents are found increasing from 96.9% to 100% with the application of SCF. © 2014 IEEE.

Pancreatic beta-cell plays a central role in the body blood homeostasis by systematically activating glucose uptake after food intake. Diabetes arises when beta-cells are unable to meet insulin demand in the body, either due to a decrease in beta-cell mass or deterioration of beta-cell function [1]. A potential strategy is to generate massive functional beta-cells in vitro from stem cells before transplantation into patients to correct the glucose intolerance. Despite recent progresses, generation of fully functional pancreatic beta-cells in vitro is still not accomplished, which is due to the little understanding of functional maturation of pancreatic beta-cells during development in vivo. To address this question, we aim to study the functional maturation of islet beta-cells of transgenic zebrafish at different development stages in vivo. To achieve this goal, we have updated our previous two-photon three-axis digital scanned light-sheet microscopy(2P3A-DSLM)[3] in the following aspects: 1) two individual high-power femtosecond lasers with two fast Pockels cells for intensity modulation to compensate for the inhomogeneous excitation along the tunable acoustic grin(TAG) scanning range, 2) a system to scan the lightsheet in three dimensions 3) a three-axis movable sample stage coupled with a fast piezo-Z on the emission objective to collect three dimensional fluorescence signals rapidly. 4) an EMCCD cameras and a channel-split device to enable simultaneous dual-color detection of weak fluorescence *** further generated a ins:Rcamp1.07 transgenic zebrafish line, which could be used to monitor glucose-evoked Ca2+ oscillation in pancreatic beta-cells in vivo. Using this fish line, we show an important role of blood circulation per se in promoting insulin-positive cells into glucose responding, insulin-secreting matured beta-cells in vivo.

Wireless sensor networks consist of multiple sensor nodes, which communicate with each other under the constrained energy. Retransmissions caused by collision and interference during the communication among sensor nodes increase the transmission delay and reduce the energy efficiency. Link scheduling schemes are incorporated in the WSNs to improve the efficiency of the transmission among the sensor nodes. For collision and interference free communication in WSNs, TDMA based link scheduling schemes (i.e., sensors have the same wireless channel but different timeslots) have been researched. This paper proposes a degree-based link scheduling scheme to reduce the schedule length which eventually decreases the overall transmission delay. To decrease the schedule length, the proposed scheme assigns a time slot to all available links based on a collision avoidance maximal independent link set. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the schedule length by maximum 71% in comparison to an existing scheme, DCLS. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Integrating IPsec within OpenFlow Architecture for Secure Group communication

Network security protocols such as IPsec have been used for many years to ensure robust end-to-end communication and are important in the context of SDN. Despite the widespread installation of IPsec to date, per-packet protection offered by the protocol is not very compatible with OpenFlow and tlow-like behavior. OpenFlow architecture cannot aggregate IPsee-ESP flows in transport mode or tunnel mode because layer-3 information is encrypted and therefore unreadable. In this paper, we propose using the Security Parameter Index （SPI） of IPsec within the OpenFlow architecture to identify and direct IPsec flows. This enables IPsec to conform to the packet-based behavior of OpenFlow architecture. In addition, by distinguishing between IPsec flows, the architecture is particularly suited to secure group communication.

Position-based routing protocols have become increasingly popular in mobile ad-hoc networks because they can use geographical node position information to route data packets to their destinations. Each node periodically sends its geographical position information to its neighbours by using beacon packets. Data packet routing in position-based routing protocols uses the neighbours' position information that is stored in the node's neighbour list to route the data packet from the source to the destination. Most recent studies on position-based routing protocols assume that the position information in the node's neighbour list is accurate, although only a rough estimate of this position information is actually available to the nodes. In general, inaccuracy occurs when inaccurate geographical position information is used. This study presents an analysis and a simulation to examine the influence of position information inaccuracy caused by beacon packet interval-time and node speed mobility parameters on the performance of position-based routing protocols. © 2014 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This paper presents the application of IEC 61850 protocol in electrical power engineering industry for data communication systems between substations. This IEC 61850 protocol presents new challenges for real-time communication performance between Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) within substation because of the Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) messages. The analyses of substation Ethernet and WLAN (wireless LAN) communication delay, its impact factors, various methods and different network topologies which can improve the real-time performance are discussed. For basic analysis of data flow within a substation, the Optimized Network engineering Tool (OPNET) software is used. The process-to-bay level network simulation model is performed by using the OPNET software. The Ethernet delay and WLAN peer-to-peer performance of the process-to-bay level network simulation results are analyzed which is based on AP (access point), switched, shared Ethernet network or peer-to-peer network.
