Atomic population distribution of excited states in He electrodeless discharge lamp

Population ratios between excited states are measured to build the excited state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (ESFADOF).We calculate these values between the excited states according to the spontaneous transition probabilities using rate equations and the measured intensities of fluorescence spectral lines of He atoms in an electrodeless discharge lamp in the visible spectral region from 350 to 730 *** electrodeless discharge lamp with populations in excited states can be used to realize the frequency stabilization reference of the laser frequency *** lamp can also build ESFADOFs for submarine communication application in the blue-green wavelength to simplify the system without the use of a pump laser.

In this paper we address exploration algorithm in flat experimental environment with colored objects for multi robots system. The aim of exploration in unknown environment is finding target points like mine detection in outdoor environment without any positioning device. Two algorithms were investigated in this paper one is frontier based random search algorithm and the second is efficient algorithm based on segmentation strategy. To improve efficiency, each robot had to go to different regions to avoid cumulating robots in one region. Constructed maps for all four regions could be shared and navigation could be done more effectively. For constructing map robot can use on built range finder sensor or using vision based systems. Also the algorithm using segmentation strategy is using frontier base algorithm for exploring divided area. Both algorithm implemented and analyzed in Player/Stage simulation. The result was compared and showed the efficiency of the designed algorithm based segmentation strategy. In simulation this algorithm is tested with different number of robots to achieve better view of efficiency for proposed algorithm in different type of environment like harsh environment as possibility of losing some robots.

Daily life movements such as standing, walking, and jumping need balance ability to achieve. Good balance control is closely related to the body stability and its development. According to medical research, people showing dizziness after taking drugs may have their balance ability substantially affected, and are more likely to fall, especially true to the elderly. This study proposes the combination of Kinect with virtual reality to build an information platform of interactive scenarios, for practices and evaluation on balance ability. Based on the indicators of balance ability, this platform sets out various training activities to improve the balance ability, making the supposedly boring process fun and vivid for a much better training purposes. Also, according to literatures, training with gaming patterns results in 30% reduction of falls. What’s more, this type of training can have the data, like time of use, scores, and joint postures, recorded and sent through network to databases on remote computer servers. The data collected from this platform can be sorted and analyzed, and the results can then be used to evaluate the performance of the balance training, and referenced for follow-up planning in the future.

The peer-reviewed articles and textual data are main source of data in biology. Text mining is solution to extract information from textual data sources that are usually in bulky quantities, messy and disorganized. Dealing with this situation needs to deploy innovative methods and techniques. In this paper, we identify the current heavily used methods for biomedical text mining, their capabilities and developments, some proposed solution and how to evaluate performance. Biomedical specific challenges in text mining context have been studied with respect to proposed answers and then main future trends based on current needs and requirements have been discussed. © 2012 IEEE.

Cooperative communications have been recommended to exploit the inherent spatial diversity gains in multiuser wireless systems without the need of multiple transceivers at each node. This is achieved when wireless nodes help to each other to send multiple independent transmission paths to the destination. The advantage of cooperation can be exploited significantly by allocating the power of the system optimally. Thus, in this paper we first derive the approximate symbol error rate (SER) for multi-node cooperative networks employing decode-and-forward (DF) protocol with a maximum ratio combining (MRC) at the receiving terminals in Racian fading channels. Using the approximated SER expression, optimal power allocation (OPA) scheme under different line-of-sight (LOS) scenarios is investigated. Numerical and simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance improvement due to OPA of the cooperative networks. © 2012 IEEE.

The widely use of GPS-enabled devices has provided us amount of trajectories related to individuals' activities. This gives us an opportunity to learn more about the users' daily lives and offer optimized suggestions to improve people's trip styles. In this paper, we mine regular routes from a users' historical trajectory dataset, and provide ridesharing recommendations to a group of users who share similar routes. Here, regular route means a complete route where a user may frequently pass through approximately in the same time of day. In this paper, we first divide users' GPS data into individual routes, and a group of routes which occurred in a similar time of day are grouped together by a sliding time window. A frequency-based regular route mining algorithm is proposed, which is robust to slight disturbances in trajectory data. A feature of Fixed Stop Rate (FSR) is used to distinguish the different types of transport modes. Finally, based on the mined regular routes and transport modes, a grid-based route table is constructed for a quick ride matching. We evaluate our method using a large GPS dataset collected by 178 users over a period of four years. The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively extract the regular routes and generate rideshare plan among users. This work may help ridesharing to become more efficient and convenient. © 2012 ACM.
