Performance and Effectiveness of UniFET^TM II MOSFET in HID Lamp Ballast

An advanced cell structure and lifetime control technology has enhanced on-resistance and reverse recovery performance of power MOSFET （metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor） simultaneously. This paper introduces a newly developed planar MOSFET--UniFETTM Ⅱ MOSFET--with highly improved body diode characteristics, and presents its performance and effectiveness. UniFET II MOSFET is divided into normal FET（field effect transistor）, FRFET （fast recovery field effect transistor）, and Ultra FRFET MOSFETs according to the concentration of lifetime control, and their reverse recovery times are about 70%, 25%, and 15% of that of a conventional MOSFET, respectively. To verify the performance and effectiveness of the new MOSFET, an experiment using a 150 W HID （high intensity discharge） lamp ballast that includes a mixed frequency inverter was implemented. As a result, it was verified that two UniFET Ⅱ MOSFETs can replace two conventional MOSFEs and four additional FRDs （fast recovery diodes） without MOSFET failure.

The recent advances in Grid and Cloud computing make new types of applications possible. At the same time, they require an infrastructure to implement heterogeneous computing resources time and cost-savely. Here, approaches that utilize design patterns, i.e., proven solutions to existing problems, seem to provide a good approach to enable these kind of applications. In this paper, we investigated which design patterns are already used in the area of Grid computing nowadays. After a brief description of the literature study design, we present our findings which include the discovered design patterns, corresponding categories, and application areas.

In this paper, a very small 2.45 GHz printed antenna suitable for WLAN application is proposed. In order to decrease the size of the antenna, multi-layer substrate and shorting plate method are used. A microstrip line which can lead to a good impedance matching and four pairs of slot are used to obtain acceptable value of return loss at the desired frequency. These techniques are used as a mean that they can be applied in this antenna design and also can give an effect on the antenna characteristics. This antenna shows an omni-directional radiation pattern similar to that of a monopole antenna.

A reconfigurable antenna design for beam steer capability (RBSA) is proposed in this research. The RBSA has successfully achieved beam steer functionality at three angle direction of -42°, -28° and -15°. This is achieved by certain PIN diode configuration. The PIN diode is positioned at the specific location of the RBSA feed network. The proposed antenna consists of an array of three rectangular radiating elements. Aperture coupled feed technique applied in order to reduce the deterioration of power due to the presence of the PIN diode. RBSA has a small dimension of 100 mm × 100 mm that design on Taconic substrate. All designs and simulations have been carried out using CST Microwave Studio. This antenna is potentially useful for Wireless Interoperability Microwave (WiMAX) smart antenna system.

The importance of video surveillance applications has been increasing with the increase of crime and terrorism. In addition to traditional video cameras, the use of acoustic sensors in surveillance and monitoring applications is also becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we apply High-Order Local Auto-Correlation (HLAC), which has succeeded in video surveillance applications, to extract features from acoustic signals in order to construct an acoustic surveillance system based on a novelty detection approach. We also apply Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to this problem. Experiment results confirmed that the AHLAC-based method outperforms the NMF-based and the cepstrum-based methods under all SNR conditions. The combined NMF-AHLAC method was able to improve the Equal Error Rate (EER) at lower SNRs, although the EERs at higher SNRs tend to degrade.

Research indicated that there is no proven cure for autism sufferers. Usually, implementing the appropriate treatment and education can eventually help the autism person to be integrated into their community. However, the conventional visual schedule and training system that depending on physical tool and toy bringing the difficulty on changing or update the picture, text and current using tool. Therefore, Digital Visual Schedule and Training system (D VST system) is developed as a user- friendly, interactive and flexibility system for children with autism. The inconveniency of traditional training program that depending on physical tool or multiple application software is improved by D VST system that provides a complete set of features and functions for the therapist and autistic children to carry out the administration work (for therapist-Server) as well as training program (for autistic children-Client) in a single application. © 2011 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

We introduce a counting stream register snoop filter, which improves the performance of existing snoop filters based on stream registers. Over time, this class of snoop filters loses the ability to filter memory addresses that have been loaded, and then evicted, from the caches that are filtered; they include cache wrap detection logic, which resets the filter whenever the contents of the cache have been completely replaced. The counting stream register snoop filter introduced here replaces the cache wrap detection logic with a direct-mapped update unit and augments each stream register with a counter, which acts as a validity checker; loading new data into the cache increments the counter, while replacements, snoopy invalidations, and evictions decrement it. A cache wrap is detected whenever the counter reaches zero. Our experimental evaluation shows that the counting stream register snoop filter architecture improves the accuracy compared to traditional stream register snoop filters for representative embedded workloads.

With the rapid growth of wireless technologies and increasing number of mobile digital devices, mobility has been an important element on the Internet. NEMO Basic Support, designed by the Internet engineering Task Force (IETF) to provide network mobility, is not efficient to offer low latency handoff in the case of nested mobile networks because it produces a long transfer delay and excessively large packet sizes due to non-optimal routes and multiple encapsulations. This paper presents a route optimization scenario for nested mobile network using hierarchical structure with Binding Update Tree (BUT). This scheme should reduce packet overhead, handoff latency, packet transmission delay, and achieve optimal routing.

In this paper, we examine performance management for cognitive radio (CR) ad hoc networks, and address the problem of data link congestion for secondary users. Our approach is to propose a metric based on the probability of contended link access and the probability of packet error to identify potential congestion on those links. We consider this metric in the context of a dynamic spectrum environment and account for effect of primary user activity on secondary user channel access. Specifically, since an ad hoc network is typically not controlled by a central base station, we propose using a clustered architecture that provides hierarchical network management utilizing a designated central manager and cluster heads that function as local managers. The cluster heads collect information from multiple layers of the protocol stack to capture the characteristics of CR ad hoc networks such as the location dependent spectrum availability. Then we define the average congestion level of the network and derive it analytically as a function of primary users' activities and CR users' strategy. The objective of the management action is to utilize a network level view of the congestion situation in the network by directing the CR nodes to select the highest quality links available and avoid congestion. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Modern days, a robot can be designed based on human needs. In particular, the line tracking robot is a classic introductory robot design and needs minimal amount of material and cost. The aim of this project is to construct a robot that has capability to follow the white line placed on a horizontal smooth surface lighted by LED and the low cost light dependant resistor as the sensor. Rigorous analysis has been applied to determine the optimal configuration for the sensor on the mobile robot. Our findings show that angle of LDR of 30°, the distance between LDR and LED of 2.5cm and height of 2cm is the best configuration. The line tracking robot will detect the light intensity that is rebounded from the white color path. © 2011 IEEE.
