In this paper, we propose a bidirectional buffer repeater insertion to reduce the RLC tree delay in multi-source multi-sink systems which involve four significant factors in our works. First, inductance effect is taken into account due to the reason that chip sizes with the exponential reduction and high work frequency. Second, bidirectional buffer repeater could improve interconnect delay more than unidirectional buffer insertion. Third, the location of insertion buffer is also considered in our work. Fourth, more than one buffer could be inserted in critical path while buffers have already existed. Finally, we develop a graphical user interface for designers to estimate the delay with bidirectional buffer repeater insertion target multi-source multi-sink systems. Experiment results shown that the reduced delay rate is 50.73% and 64.47% in 0.18 and 0.35 micron fabrication process, respectively

This paper presents a dual band low noise amplifier (LNA) for 1.8 GHz DECT and 2.4 GHz WLAN applications employing positive feedback technique. This LNA exploits a positive feedback capacitor connected to a conventional cascaded inductive source degenerated LNA whereby the connection of a capacitor determines the operating frequency of the LNA. For operation at 1.8 GHz DECT, the capacitor is feedback to both transistors of the cascaded LNA and as for 2.4 GHz WLAN application, the capacitor is feedback to only one of the transistors. Two switches are employed to control the connection of the feedback capacitor to the LNA. By switching the connection of the feedback capacitor, the narrow-band gain and impedance matching are achieved at both 1.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands. The LNA has been simulated using 0.18 μm CMOS technology and results attained for both two bands are as followed; gain, S21 = 21 dB, noise figure, NF = 0.8 dB and linearity with third-order intercept point, IIP3 =- 0.13 dBm. Simulation results prove that the technique works and a dual-band LNA with a chip size comparable to a single-band LNA is realized with the proposed topology.

In this paper we analyze the viewer-perceived quality of a compressed video stream, which is transmitted over a lossy IP network with QoS (quality of service) mechanism. We demonstrate that when jointly considering the impact of coding bit rate, packet loss ratio and video characteristics, there is an optimal encoding scheme, which maximizes the viewer-perceived quality. The video content, the compression and the transmission are represented in a vector X of d parameters. Based on the subjective tests, we obtain a set of observation pairs of labeled samples Pi = {Xi ,Qi}, where Qi is the quality class related to the vector of input parameters Xi. We introduce a novel method to predict the optimal encoding scheme based on canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) for feature classification.

Despite of the many advantages of OFDM, it has two main drawbacks which are high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) and synchronization problem. High PAPR causes saturation in power amplifiers, leading to intermodulation products among the sub carriers and disturbing out of band energy. Therefore, it is desirable to reduce the PAPR by means of PAPR reduction schemes. However, it caused the degradation of BER and enhanced the growth of out of band radiation which has led to the degradation of OFDM overall performance. In this paper, OFDM system with an enhanced clipping technique has been proposed, the effects of clipping have been analyzed and the system is evaluated by integrating with its significant features including convolutional forward error control coding, oversampled inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) and digital filtering technique in order to minimize the effects of clipping. It is shown that the bit error rate (BER) of the clipped OFDM signal is improved, the PAPR is further reduced and the effect of out of band radiation is minimized. Besides, other effects of the filtering technique are also analyzed in order to optimize the overall performance of our proposed system.

To meet needs in cell and tissue engineering bioreactors are evolving to allow cells and tissues to be cultured under precisely defined physical and chemical conditions. Many cell-tissue types are now being cultured, and considered in this work are chondrocytes, vascular endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells. The culture processes are dynamic and optimisation requires monitoring of key process variables. The chemical sensing in cell and tissue bioreactors described here has the long term aim of achieving automatic optimal control. Invasive and non-invasive electrochemical and optical systems are described for a wide range of target analytes (gases, ions, metabolites, hormones and proteins), but emphasis is on O 2 , pH, CO 2 and glucose. The sensing is performed with: (a) interrogation via the bioreactor wall; (b) probes placed within the cell culture chamber; (c) analysis within a shunt/sampling chamber. Analysis of culture medium is used for measurement of glucose and for proteins that are markers of cell biosynthetic behaviour. Optical absorbance and scatter of cells and tissues are also investigated for both chemical and structural analysis

A new detection scheme, namely AND subtraction technique is proposed and presented in this paper. The theory is being elaborated and experimental results have been done by comparing double-weight (DW) code against the existing code, Hadamard. In this paper we have proved that AND subtraction technique gives better bit error rates (BER) performance than Complementary subtraction technique against the received power level.

The extension of telecommunication frontiers towards deep space scenarios has opened new horizons in the way of designing networking infrastructures and has raised the necessity of developping novel communication paradigms, more suited to this specific environment. Under this view, given the hazardous operative conditions (very large latencies and frequent link disconnections), in which the exchange of data has to be performed among remote peers, the exploitation of TCP-based transmission schemes does not offer satisfactory results. On the contrary, the use of erasure coding schemes and more appropriate Automatic Repeat reQuest(ARQ) approaches, available within the Packet Layer Coding-based protocols and the Consultative Committee for Space Data systems (CCSDS) protocol architectures respectively, assure better performance results. In this paper, the adoption of erasure codes within CCSDS protocol stack is considered, and its effectiveness is evaluated with respect to ARQ-based transmission schemes available within the CCSDS File Delivery Protocol and hence proposing a combined use of erasure codes and ARQ schemes in order to optimize the overall performance.

Long hours of automobile driving under monotonous situations may cause the lowering of what we term a driver's activation state (DAS) or in other words the production of drowsiness, resulting in an increased risk of a traffic accident. There is therefore a need to create a newly advanced system focused on the DAS in-car, hopefully thus avoiding potentially dangerous situations. In order to develop such a system as a final goal, we have firstly set out to acquire such cardiovascular variables as beat-by-beat blood pressure (BP), RR interval from ECG and normalized pulse volume (NPV) used as a peripheral vascular tone of alpha-adrenergic sympathetic activity, during presentation to the driver of a screen movie simulating monotonous travel at constant speed on a test-course. Subsequently, we have investigated the reactivity in terms of the driver's cardiovascular hemodynamics. Through the successful monitoring of cardiovascular parameters during the movie presentation obtained in 11 healthy male subjects, the following results were obtained: The monotonous driving produces a statistically significant gradual rise in BP following drowsiness, which could be explained by enhancement of sympathetic activity using a time-frequency analysis of BP and RR. This finding strongly indicates that continuous driving in such monotonous situations can make a driver considerably stressful and thus may cause a gradual increase in BP, and that this gradual BP increase may be used as a possible index relevant to the DAS. This finding was also confirmed by the analysis of NPV, suggesting that the gradual increase in BP during the monotonous driving would be rather caused by a regulation of peripheral vasomotor constriction

There are lots of attempts in automotive field to supersede mechanical parts with electrical ones owing to increasing needs of drivers' safety, comfort and convenience as well as recent tightened environmental regulation. In addition, continuous improvements of semiconductor technology make it speed up to use electric components instead of conventional mechanical and hydraulic ones. In accordance with these tendencies, the demand of electric power and energy used in vehicle has been increasing steadily, and it will cause overburden of conventional 14 V power generation and distribution system. A research on higher voltage system started in early 1990s and 42 V power system has been introduced for a future automotive power-net. In this paper, technical trend in energy storage system which implies one of the key technologies to implement 42 V power-net is reviewed, and development results of the improved energy storage system consisted of ultracapacitor, battery and management controllers are presented
