For planning of indoor Wireless LAN systems working in the 2.4 GHz ISM band, the signal propagation prediction is needed. Empirical and semiempirical models represent an efficient approach as opposed to deterministic models due to its simplicity and superiority in calculation time. For these models, suitable empirical parameters to characterize propagation channel must be provided. In this paper, an in building Linear, One-Slope (OS) empirical and semi-empirical Multi-Wall (MW) models are studied. Different types of MW models in the office and classroom like environment have been reported in [Error! Reference source not found.]. OS purely account for attenuation of power law equation with distance while MW with additional attenuation due to obstacles such as wall, partition etc. The results and accuracy of those models are compared and discussed. The developed optimal indoor OS, MWC and MWE is then tuned to slope and MW model available in wireless simulation tool namely ICS Telecom. © 2005 IEEE.

Mobility support for Internet devices is very important, since mobile computing is getting more widespread. Since these devices are wireless and therefore mobile, they will derive great benefit form mobile IPv6. Mobile IPv6 was designed to be a natural outgrowth of mobile IPv4, just as IPv6 itself was designed to be a natural outgrowth of IPv4. A wireless test-bed was setup to see the performance of the handover. The wireless test-bed consists of hardware, software and network analyzes tools to monitor the handover operation. The hardware consists of a multicast router, 2-access point, home agent, and mobile node. We analyzed packet loss, packet delay and handover delay in mobile IPv6 wireless test-bed. Finally, it is concluded the average packet delay is 0.7 s, the handover delay for the first handover (macro-mobility) is 4.4 s (44 packet loss) and 4.2 s (42 packet loss) during the second handover (micro-mobility). The behavior and performance of mobile IPv6 scheme can be seen.

As the increasing users and services over the Internet, people demand faster data fetching and more reliable network services. However, the increasing network services and equipment causes the network management much more difficult. In this paper, we propose and implement a chassis-based multiple gigahit multiple-service switch (GMSS). This chassis-based GMSS aggregates several advanced network services and also provides easy upgrade and efficient management system. The architecture of GMSS and the designed of the advanced services are introduced. The implemented prototype of the GMSS is also presented in this paper. © 2005 IEEE.

The main goal of mobile IPv6 is that a mobile node is always addressable by its home address, whether it is currently attached to its home link or is away from home. Mobile IPv6 enables applications running on an Internet node to survive physical reconnection by inserting a few additional features at the network layer. In this paper, focus is given to a micro-mobility based test-bed development with improved algorithm. The test-bed consists of both hardware and software, including four PCs and one laptop. The laptop is used as mobile host (MH), two PCs act as access points, one PC becomes the home agent (HA) and one PC is used as a multicast router (ML). This test-bed is used to verify the theoretical enhancement of the micro-mobility handover algorithm via the results (packet loss, handover delay and quality of service). There is no signaling traffic overload between the MH, HA and correspondent host (CH), the handover delay is low, approximately below 10 ms, and the video stream has good reception.

In this paper, we discuss efficient coding and design styles using Verilog from synthesis point of view. These techniques can be greatly helpful for any digital designer writing designs having speed and area considerations in his mind. Different important techniques have been addressed to enable the designer to write synthesizable codes. Apart from the synthesis, techniques are also discussed to improve the speed and area of netlist generated from the RTL codes. The prominent problem faced by the designer related to synthesis of Division and Modulus operator in FPGA has been discussed and an efficient solution has been provided.

This paper presents a new code structure and its ability in supporting multiple transmission rates in point to point spectral amplitude coding-optical code division multiple access (SAC-OCDMA) links. The double-weight (DW) code family that has a basic fixed weight of 2 was proposed. Modified double weight (MDW) code is a DW code family variation that has variable weight of greater than two. The ability of MDW codes to support simultaneous transmissions at different bit rates is shown through simulated results of the bit error rate (BER) and the eye patterns. Four MDW encoded channels were used at the bit rates of 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps. MDW code shown here significantly performs better than Hadamard and modified frequency hopping (MFH) codes.

In this paper, we introduce a new duplexing system, the so-called space division duplex, which can eliminate all kinds of interference. This new duplexing system consists of smart antenna multiple steered narrow beams and orthogonal large area synchronous spread spectrum codes. The purpose is to increase system capacity while maintaining its zero correlation window characteristics. The major types of interference and the properties of large area synchronous codes to combat these are studied. An overview of code division duplexing systems applying these orthogonal smart codes in a wireless environment is analyzed. This analysis shows that the number of orthogonal codes which can be utilized is limited. The proposed solution of a space division duplexing system, with its advantages, is presented. In addition, a code reuse concept is proposed to overcome the limitation of orthogonal codes. Finally, the system performance in term of spectral efficiency and capacity are presented.

The choice of CDMA spreading sequences predetermines the properties of the system. The properties of large area synchronous (LAS) CDMA system have been demonstrated an interference free window (IFW) compared to traditional CDMA systems. This IFW property, however, has a limited delay-offset range. It is not always possible that all the channel-induced multipath delay spread components arrives within IFW delay-offset range if the conventional antenna is employed. In this paper, the high directive narrow beam of smart antenna system is employed to direct all the multipath propagation components to arrive within the IFW range. Moreover, smart antenna system with its mathematical model is described. The reduction of multipath propagation in smart antenna system is also described. Finally, system performance analysis in terms of BER and maximum delay spread in both conventional and smart antennas are presented.

Signatures of SOAP/XML messages were necessary to enforce the security. This paper proposes an approach to accelerate the process of validating signatures of Web service calls. We developed a quick XML parser (QXP). The QXP is motivated by Xerces, but QXP outperforms Xerces ranging from 7 to 21 times speedup in the two benchmark programs.

The tuning of the coupling ratio of fused fiber optic couplers over a wide range is demonstrated. The variable coupling ratio is achieved by applying a deflection to the fused biconical taper coupler. The dependency of the variable coupler on the deflection is elaborated. It is found that in the range of 0.8 mm deflection, the coupling ratio can be varied from 11% to 92% with the excess loss less than 0.1 dB.
