One of the key components of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks is tunable optical filters (TOFs). This paper focused on the theoretical analysis and design of a new dual-channel micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) actuated tunable optical filter based on polarization insensitive compound ring resonators (PICRRs) for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical networking applications. It is basically structured on an optimally designed capacitive type microcantilever beam, which is fixed at both ends, with built-in PICRRs, which are placed at both fixed ends of the beam to gain linearly varying longitudinal strain and stress on the resonators. Also, the dimensions of the rings are properly chosen to achieve a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 0.4078 nm with a flat pass band at 1 dB of 0.3626 nm and a good shape factor for both channels. It also shows a free spectral range of about 20.05 nm for the first channel and 20.046 nm for the second channel, with a high extinction ratio that allows filtering of adjacent channels of 50 GHz DWDM systems. Thus, when the electrostatic attraction force (EAF) is applied, the beam will bend, which induces strain and stress in the rings, which brings a change in effective refractive index of the rings and also affects the perimeter and coupling coefficients of the rings that leads to a change in the output spectrum shift, providing the tunability as high as 4.779 nm/μN, and it is capable of tuning up to 355 GHz with negligible variations of FWHM and channel spacing within the tunability range of the two channels. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The main objective of this research is to utilize the technologies of cloud computing in the applications of the IoT. The IoT network is divided into three layers: the cloud computing layer, the edge layer, and the fog layer. More than twenty-five million devices are connected to the fog layer leading to an increase in data traffic in the network in general. As a result, there will be an increase in the number of attacks. Therefore, protecting the data of the IoT and detecting attacks are indispensable. Since new types of attacks frequently emerge, intrusion detecting systems (IDSs) have to be developed to counteract the new types of attacks. However, built upon the principles of deep learning and machine learning, most of the current IDSs are based on predicting the probability of an attack. The most commonly used IDSs are the KNN and the SVN. Such IDSs suffer from low accuracy rates in attacks detection, time consumption, and a large number of false alarms. Thus, this paper suggests a new model of deep learning that is built upon combining two algorithms: the convolution neural network (CNN) and the gated recurrent unit network (GRU). Additionally, two types of datasets are utilized: the NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15. These datasets are categorized in accordance with multiclass classification. The suggested model provides a better detection rate in comparison with the other models. It achieves a detection rate that is 1.5 more accurate than the other IDSs. Also, it exhibits fewer false alarms, and it provides less time for detection rate. The achieved results of the suggested model are due to utilizing the technologies of deep learning and machine learning. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Keyloggers are malicious software programs that record keystrokes of users without their consent or knowledge. They can steal sensitive information like credit card numbers and passwords. They pose a significant threat to users’ privacy and security since they capture keystroke data. Keylogger detection systems play a vital role in safeguarding users from cyberattacks and mitigating the potential harm caused by keyloggers. Keylogger detection systems employing deep learning have been widely used for identifying and mitigating cyber threats associated with keyloggers. However, they struggle to identify new or unfamiliar keylogger samples. This study aims to explore deep learning techniques with feature selection model to detect keylogger. This study employs Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) using a collection of known keylogger dataset. Furthermore, a correlation-based feature extraction method was applied to identify the most relevant features for the model, highlighting the importance of specific features, such as URG flag Count, ACK flag count, and Idle Mean, in differentiating between benign and keylog classes. The proposed model demonstrates superior accuracy of 0.8763 and precision of 0.8569 compared to a baseline model using Logistic Regression (LR) 0.7721 and 0.7407, respectively, indicating a better balance between accurate classification and minimizing false negatives and false positives. The findings from this study help to improve keylogger detection methods, making them more powerful and efficient. These results suggest that a keylogger-based detection system employing a deep learning approach can be a valuable tool for addressing the complex and evolving landscape of cyber threats related to keylogging. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has emerged as a promising technology for next-generation wireless communications due to its ability to manipulate electromagnetic (EM) waves. This work introduces a novel RIS direct modulation scheme based on the backscatter communication concept. In this work, the RIS acts as a sole information modulator. Unlike conventional RIS systems that relay incoming datacarrying waves, this work enables RIS to encode its own information into unmodulated waves without requiring any hardware modifications. We propose an adaptive algorithm that maximizes modulation order while meeting the quality of service (QoS) requirements by selecting appropriate constellation points to minimize error probability. The proposed scheme was validated through simulations and experiments using a passive 5.8 GHz RIS prototype. The validations demonstrate consistent performance in both distributed and co-located transmitter- receiver scenarios. These results highlight its feasibility as an alternative approach for RIS-assisted communications and contribute to further exploration of RIS-enabled symbiotic radio (SR) and over-the-air (OTA) modulation systems. © 2014 IEEE.

Medical data are subject to privacy regulations, which severely limit AI specialists who wish to construct decision support systems for medicine. Large amounts of this data are tabular, indicating that they are organized into a table format, where patient records are represented in rows and measured variables in columns. Furthermore, the variables come in different types-some are numerical, while others are categorical. In this work, we introduce a novel method for constructing generators of synthetic tabular data with mixed types. The key point of our approach is the explicit utilization of a latent space to represent the original data. A case study using real medical data is presented. © 2024 The Authors.

INTRODUCTION: As population has increased over successive generations, human dependency on electricity has increased to the point where it has become a norm and indispensable, and the idea of living without it has become unthinkable. OBJECTIVES: Machine learning is emerging as a fundamental method for performing tasks autonomously without human intervention. Forecasting electricity consumption is challenging due to the many factors that influence it;embracing modern technology with its heavy focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence is a potential solution. METHODS: This study employs various machine learning algorithms to forecast power usage and determine which method performs best in predicting the dataset based on different variables. RESULTS: Eight models were tested, including Linear Regression, DT Classifier, RF Classifier, KNN, DT Regression, SVM, Logistic Regression, and GNB Classifier. The Decision Tree model had the greatest accuracy of 98.3%. CONCLUSION: The Decision Tree model’s accuracy can facilitate efficient use of electricity, leading to both conservation of electricity and cost savings, and be a guiding light in future planning. With the extensive penetration of distributed renewable energy and self-interested prosumers,the emerging power market tends to enable user autonomy by bottom-up control and distributed *** paper is devoted to solving the specific problems of distributed energy management and autonomous bidding and peer-to-peer(P2P)energy sharing among prosumers.A novel cloud-edge-based We-Market is presented,where the prosumers,as edge nodes with independent control,balance the electricity cost and thermal comfort by formulating a dynamic household energy management system(HEMS).Meanwhile,the autonomous bidding is initiated by prosumers via the modified Stone-Geary utility *** the cloud center,a distributed convergence bidding(CB)algorithm based on consistency criterion is developed,which promotes faster and fairer bidding through the interactive iteration with the edge ***,the proposed scheme is built on top of the commercial cloud platform with sufficiently secure and scalable computing *** results show the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed We-Market,which achieves 15%cost reduction with shorter running *** analysis indicates better scalability,which is more suitable for largerscale We-Market implementation.

Selecting the most relevant subset of features from a dataset is a vital step in data mining and machine *** feature in a dataset has 2n possible subsets,making it challenging to select the optimum collection of features using typical *** a result,a new metaheuristicsbased feature selection method based on the dipper-throated and grey-wolf optimization(DTO-GW)algorithms has been developed in this *** can result when the selection of features is subject to metaheuristics,which can lead to a wide range of ***,we adopted hybrid optimization in our method of optimizing,which allowed us to better balance exploration and harvesting chores more *** propose utilizing the binary DTO-GW search approach we previously devised for selecting the optimal subset of *** the proposed method,the number of features selected is minimized,while classification accuracy is *** test the proposed method’s performance against eleven other state-of-theart approaches,eight datasets from the UCI repository were used,such as binary grey wolf search(bGWO),binary hybrid grey wolf,and particle swarm optimization(bGWO-PSO),bPSO,binary stochastic fractal search(bSFS),binary whale optimization algorithm(bWOA),binary modified grey wolf optimization(bMGWO),binary multiverse optimization(bMVO),binary bowerbird optimization(bSBO),binary hysteresis optimization(bHy),and binary hysteresis optimization(bHWO).The suggested method is superior 4532 CMC,2023,vol.74,no.2 and successful in handling the problem of feature selection,according to the results of the experiments.
