When dealing with sensor's data, it's important to keep track of what it's really happening in the tracked environments since failures, interruptions and misreadings must be expected at any time. Especially with logging processes involving extremely voluminous reports, an automatic method to detect entries that are not following the normal distribution of data (i.e. anomalies) should be the ideal solution. In the presented work the task performed by the autoencoder is to generate a reproduction error, used as metric for the classification of a sample in one of two classes: anomalous or non-anomalous. The government of Bangladesh has implemented the “Stay Home” policy following the WHO recommendation to resist the community transmission of Covid-19. As a result, the routine activities of all government, semi-government establishments, including educational institutions, are severely affected, and the country's economic growth becomes slowed down. To overcome such a situation, the relevant authorities have introduced the “Work from Home” policy for the employees and “Remote Education” for students. However, due to the persistence of multi-dimensional socio-economic problems, many employees and students face big challenges in performing their regular jobs while adopting such a policy. Consequently, enormous psychological anxiety has been developed for all people, including students, parents, employees, etc., and concurrently created severe changes in their behavior. This study aims to analyze the reasons for the behavioral changes of the employees, students, academic staff, and family members of different ages due to psychological anxiety, stress, or physical issues. A comprehensive online-based survey has been carried out on people working in various sectors in Bangladesh. A modified Apriori Algorithm has been used to sort out the associations between the causes and types of behavioral changes. Analyzed data revealed a massive human behavioral change in most participants. This finding indicates that the negligence of those significant human behavioral changes may cause a higher risk of creating psychological imbalance. Therefore, there is a need to have a solid understanding of the reasons for the behavioral changes and set up standard guidelines to maintain “Work from Home” in this Covid-19 situation to avoid psychological imbalance. Based on this study, some suggestions have been given for implementation by the government on an urgent basis. © 2023

In real environments, autonomous vehicles must be able to deal with uncertainties related to the measurements provided by their perception system. Not taking such perception uncertainties into account can lead the vehicle to take erroneous decisions and cause accidents. Excessive speed rate change variations and red light crossing at signalized intersections are special cases of this problem. This paper presents a decision making for autonomous vehicles that considers uncertainty in timing information, but also in traffic light color (signal phase) measurement at signalized intersections. A Partially Observable Markov Decision Problem (POMDP) model is proposed in order to deal with the problem of partially observability of both signal phase and timing. By incorporating the perception system uncertainty, the POMDP model can reliably predict signal phase transitions, avoiding reacting in a too reactive manner and running red lights. Results show that the proposed POMDP model is able to estimate the true values of the signal phase and timing as more observations are gathered, which allows better decisions when compared to deterministic approaches. © 2021 IEEE.

The year of 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of evoloops, an evolutionary variant of Chris Langton’s self-reproducing loops which proved constructively that Darwinian evolution of self-reproducing organisms by variation and natural selection is possible within deterministic cellular automata. Over the last few decades, this line of Artificial Life research has since undergone several important developments. Although it experienced a relative dormancy of activities for a while, the recent rise of interest in open-ended evolution and the success of continuous cellular automata models have brought researchers’ attention back to how to make spatio-temporal patterns self-reproduce and evolve within spatially distributed computational media. This article provides a review of the relevant literature on this topic over the past 25 years and highlights the major accomplishments made so far, the challenges being faced, and promising future research directions. The main objective of this work is to model, control and simulate an electrical microgrid. To achieve this objective, models of the subsystems or associated elements (generators, power interfaces, electrical loads, etc.) are built, the control strategies necessary for the integration of each subsystem in the microgrid are implemented, and it is proposed an optimization algorithm that allows the economic dispatch of the system to be carried out under different generation and demand conditions. Finally, after simulating the model, its behavior is validated in a considered operating scenario. The work environment selected to develop this project is Simulink, a tool integrated into MATLAB, due to the ease it offers when modeling and simulating dynamic systems, allowing you to customize the included libraries and export data to MATLAB for subsequent analysis. At the end of this work, it is intended to have a simulated environment to validate the behavior of the proposed microgrid, which allows considering different generation and demand scenarios, and an optimization algorithm that allows carrying out the economic dispatch of the system under the operating conditions. considered, without taking into account the randomness of generation sources and energy demand.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people globally, with respiratory organs being strongly affected in individuals with comorbidities. Medical imaging-based diagnosis and prognosis have become increasingly popular in clinical settings for detecting COVID-19 lung infections. Among various medical imaging modalities, ultrasound stands out as a low-cost, mobile, and radiation-safe imaging technology. In this comprehensive review, we focus on AI-driven studies utilizing lung ultrasound (LUS) for COVID-19 detection and analysis. We provide a detailed overview of both publicly available and private LUS datasets and categorize the AI studies according to the dataset they used. Additionally, we systematically analyzed and tabulated the studies across various dimensions, including data preprocessing methods, AI models, cross-validation techniques, and evaluation metrics. In total, we reviewed 60 articles, 41 of which utilized public datasets, while the remaining employed private data. Our findings suggest that ultrasound-based AI studies for COVID-19 detection have great potential for clinical use, especially for children and pregnant women. Our review also provides a useful summary for future researchers and clinicians who may be interested in the field. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper investigates the use of the constrained Minimum Mean Square Error (cMMSE) method to calculate a clutter covariance matrix with a small number of signal samples, which enables radar detection methods to work in the presence of less-stationary and colored clutter noise. Improvements given by the cMMSE method were tested and evaluated on measured radar data in which the target signal was obscured by weather clutter “noise”. The weather covariances were used in three detection methods, namely the Matched Subspace Detector (MSD), the Adaptive Coherence Estimator (ACE), and the Clutter Subspace Estimation (CSE). Comparison of the detector outputs with ones based on covariances calculated by a conventional method showed that the cMMSE method produced significantly superior Doppler profiles. That is, the evaluation confirmed that, while the conventional method requires $L \gg N$ where $L$ is the number of signal samples to compute covariance matrix and $N$ is the number of elements of the received signal vector (the number of rows or columns of covariance matrix), the cMMSE method works even with $L \ll N$ .

This article uses the well-known multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) theory to determine which laptop is the best among those that are currently on the market. To illustrate the importance of decision-making in a class of 25 students, data on laptop features was gathered for this case study. The following eight factors were considered while choosing an option: price, weight, RAM, camera megapixels, screen size, clock speed, operating system, and laptop appearance. SAW and WPM determine the optimal laptop alternative. To rank laptop qualities, identical weights are applied. The suggested work displays laptop rankings derived by SAW and WPM methods. Future engineers and management may benefit significantly from this straightforward decision-making process. More important attributes/criteria and alternatives may be taken into account, and there are a variety of weighting techniques from which to choose. The study emphasizes the importance of incorporating user preferences and real-time market data to ensure personalized and up-to-date laptop recommendations. Through this approach, users can make well-informed decisions that align with their specific needs and environmental considerations.

The spotlight on large population-based studies is growing within the research community. Epidemiological studies, amassing extensive data through questionnaires and check-ups, often include imaging data like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or ultrasonography from numerous participants. This article offers an exploration of several recent epidemiological studies conducted in Germany, addressing not only the intriguing research tasks but also the multifaceted perspectives and challenges of analyzing image data. This includes potential enhancements in imaging technologies, machine learning applications for data analysis, and collaboration between different research disciplines. Key insights into the methodologies, algorithms, and techniques used for processing and interpreting complex imaging data are detailed. The potential of epidemiological image analysis to guide clinical practices and contribute to personalized medicine is also discussed.

Speckle patterns are used in a broad range of applications including microscopy, imaging, and light-matter interactions. Tailoring speckles’ statistics can dramatically enhance their performance in applications. We present an experimental technique for customizing the spatio-spectral speckled intensity statistics of optical pulses at the output of a complex medium (a disordered multimode fiber) by controlling the spatial profile of the input light. We demonstrate that it is possible to create ensembles of independent speckle patterns with arbitrary statistics at a single wavelength, simultaneously at decorrelated wavelengths, and even tailored statistics across an entire pulse spectrum.
