The possibility of the usage of deadly aerosolized pathogens, particularly anthrax, in bioterrorist attack has raised tremendous concerns in recent years. Several anthrax incubation models have been introduced in order to characterize the incubation period of human inhalation anthrax. It is important to accurately identify the model that fits best with the observed anthrax time series, which directly affects the prediction results of the severity of the potential anthrax attacks. Here, we applied Default ARTMAP, an important neural network algorithm for classification, to separate anthrax time series generated from different inhalation anthrax models. Experimental results on anthrax time series derived from major inhalation anthrax models, together with anti-patterns and a smallpox time series, demonstrate the effectiveness of Default ARTMAP in identifying anthrax time series derived from different models, as well as discriminating unrelated cases.

A major drawback of OFDM is its large peak to average power ratio (PAPR). While subcarrier reservation is a common approach to combat this problem, little is known about the performance of algorithms that utilize subcarrier reservation. By combining properties of sparse signals with an abstract form of the uncertainty principle related to multiple subcarrier signals, we design an efficient iterative method for constructing OFDM signals with lower PAPR. Unlike most existing subcarrier reservation methods, our method provides a guaranteed upper bound for PAPR reduction as well as guaranteed rates of convergence. Numerical simulations demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

It is well recognized that effort estimation is an essential part of successful software management. Among many estimation models, the Case-Base Effort Estimation (CBEE) has been intensively used among researchers and practitioners as a promising model for better and accurate effort prediction. The common challenges with this model are: (1) finding the nearest cases to the new case, (2) selecting best features set, and (3) determining the optimal k number of nearest cases that should be involved in the final prediction stage. Irrespective of existing many models to mitigate these challenges, none have achieved the full trust from research community. In this paper, we used Robust Rank Aggregation method as a potential solution for the abovementioned challenges. We believe that the CBEE tasks can been seen as ranking problem. The proposed model has been evaluated over 8 datasets coming from different sources. The results achieved are promising. In conclusion, we can recommend the proposed model as a successful alternative for original CBEE.

For communications subject to correlated channel effects, noise recycling has recently been shown to enhance channel capacity with receiver-side-only changes. Using a taped-out chip, in a hard-detection scenario with guessing random additive noise decoding (GRAND), noise recycling has been established to both increase decoding accuracy and decrease decoding energy in single communication channels that employ interleavers. This paper presents results for the related soft-detection scenario by investigating noise recycling with an in-silicon realization of Ordered Reliability Bits Guessing Random Additive Noise Decoding (ORBGRAND). Measurements demonstrate that noise recycling leads to a significant reduction in the block error rate (BLER) and substantial improvements in latency and energy consumption by reducing the number of queries required for decoding. We also discuss dynamic lead channel selection for the soft detection scenario and show the importance of lead channel on overall decoding performance.
