Engineered common environmental effects on multitransistor systems

In this paper, we analyze the impact of physically large baths used in terminals of thermal multitransistor systems formed using two-level systems (TLSs). In particular, we simulate the effects of a two-transistor system introduced as a thermal Darlington pair (DP). The size and proximity of the baths can cause multiple interactions with the transistor terminals represented by the TLS, not just the TLS directly connected to them. Such interactions can ultimately suppress the heat flows or impair the transistor action. However, we demonstrate that the DP model can achieve more than a 50% increase in heat flows. Using the engineered interactions leading to the correlated TLS-thermal bath interactions, we establish an incoherent (no quantum coherence in the density matrix at the steady state) yet correlated (joint excitation of two TLSs due to bath interaction) heat transfer model to a two-transistor arrangement in a substrate. This model helps us to interpret the environmental effects on the device by treating the common environment as separate thermal baths and all the transitions in the system as independent. We also show that this model can be mapped to contain dark-states. These dark-states can provide an external channel for transistor switching. We use this knowledge to design thermal counterparts of electronic AND and OR gates, and to study their switching time and operation, paving the way to realizing thermal logic gates.

Maritime communication helps vessels and ports plan their movements, exchange environmental information, and communicate among themselves. The vessels' movement and changing location are critical to keep them secure from data interception and data tampering by unauthorized parties during transmission. To secure maritime communication, we propose a novel lightweight authentication scheme sensitive to the current ship location. We assess the effectiveness of the proposed protocol in defending against a range of security threats while keeping communication and computation costs low, and meeting the desired security and functional requirements of anonymity and untraceability. The detailed security analysis using the widely accepted Scyther tool demonstrates that location-based keys as proposed in our protocol are secure against location inference and spoofing attacks among others.

Two-Stream Thermal Imaging Fusion for Enhanced Time of Birth Detection in Neonatal Care

Around 10% of newborns require some help to initiate breathing, and 5% need ventilation assistance. Accurate Time of Birth (ToB) documentation is essential for optimizing neonatal care, as timely interventions are vital for proper resuscitation. However, current clinical methods for recording ToB often rely on manual processes, which can be prone to inaccuracies. In this study, we present a novel two-stream fusion system that combines the power of image and video analysis to accurately detect the ToB from thermal recordings in the delivery room and operating theater. By integrating static and dynamic streams, our approach captures richer birth-related spatiotemporal features, leading to more robust and precise ToB estimation. We demonstrate that this synergy between data modalities enhances performance over single-stream approaches. Our system achieves 95.7% precision and 84.8% recall in detecting birth within short video clips. Additionally, with the help of a score aggregation module, it successfully identifies ToB in 100% of test cases, with a median absolute error of 2 seconds and an absolute mean deviation of 4.5 seconds compared to manual annotations. © 2025, CC BY.

Advanced Modelling and simulation (M&S) techniques, including Digital Twins (DTs) and Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulation, are essential for the design and operation of today’s complex systems. Despite these advances, there remains a gap between the simulation methods used in design and those used in implementation. This paper introduces a Real-Time (RT) simulation framework that connects models using the Discrete-Event System Specification (DEVS) with external systems, improving implementation and operation. The Python xDEVS tool has been enhanced to introduce a new suite of real-time simulation components and a DEVS-based communication interface, facilitating adaptable communication protocols. The framework demonstrates its capability to integrate both DEVS and non-DEVS systems and establish effective communication through various experiments, ranging from RT simulation of DEVS models to complex multi-component systems. This tool has significant potential in supporting real and incremental system implementations through HIL techniques, making a valuable contribution to complex system design and operation.

An end-to-end fiber-based network has the potential to offer multi-gigabit fixed access to end users. However, a fiber network’s biggest hurdle is delivering that fiber access to the end user. Especially in places where fiber is non-existent, it can be time-consuming and costly to deploy, resulting in Operators experiencing a long delay in realizing a return on their *** work investigates transmission data from fixed broadband wireless access in the mmWave band in 5G. With the increasing interest in this domain, it is worth investigating the transmission characteristic of the data and utilizing the same to build more sophisticated capabilities. Existing datasets for the mmWave band are detailed but generated from simulated environments. In this work, we introduce a dataset built from the collection of real-world transmission data from fixed broadband wireless access in mmWave band device(RWM6050). The goal of this data is to enable self-configuration capability based on transmission characteristics. Towards this goal, we present an online machine learning-based approach that can classify transmission characteristics with real-time training. We also present two more advanced temporal models for more accurate classifications. We demonstrate that it is possible to detect the transmission angle and distance directly from the analysis of transmission data with very high accuracy. We achieved up to 99% accuracy on the combined classification task. Finally, we outline some interesting future research scopes based on the collected data.

Wearable body sensors have recently gained popularity because they monitor user behaviors and vital indicators. These sensors are designed to monitor various physiological factors, such as motion, temperature, and heart rate, among others. Making sense of the data gathered by these sensors requires separating the dependent and independent features. The dependent parameters are those that body-worn sensors can read in this scenario. Examples of such elements include blood oxygen levels, heart rate, temperature, mobility, and airflow. These sensors capture data about a person's activity and health. The independent parameters in wearable body sensors are related to the dependent parameters, whereas the dependent parameters are those that the sensors can measure directly. Such characteristics include age, sex, weight, and environmental influences. For example, humidity and airflow might impair a temperature sensor's accuracy. The user's age or level of physical fitness may also influence the accuracy of a heart rate monitor. Activity monitors are used in this study to capture the actions of various people. Static and dynamic properties are derived from the activity monitor recording. The performance evaluations of the eight distinct machine-learning models that were created using the retrieved features are discussed in this paper. The Grid Search method is used to enhance the performance of the XGB model. © 2023 IEEE.

Interference is one of the most critical issues in the cellular Device-to-Device (D2D) networks. The sharing of radio resources in cellular and D2D communications offers spectrum efficiency advantages for the cellular network. However, resource sharing also introduces interference, leading to a reduction in the quality of service experienced by users. In this paper, we propose an adversarial Multi-Armed Bandit learning-based transmission Power Control method called MAB-PC for both cellular and D2D transmitters. The objective of this method is to ensure the minimum service quality for users, considering the minimum spectral efficiency and maximum block error rate. Additionally, to address the conflicting objectives of D2D and cellular communications, MAB-PC is modeled as a Pareto optimization problem for D2D transmitters. MAB-PC is a distributed method that minimizes signaling overhead and relies solely on local Channel State Information (CSI). The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated based on reliability, total data rate, spectral efficiency, block error rate, and outage probability, demonstrating superior performance compared to its counterpart.

Side-Channel VoIP Profiling Attack against Customer Service Automated Phone System

In many VoIP systems, Voice Activity Detection (VAD) is often used on VoIP traffic to suppress packets of silence in order to reduce the bandwidth consumption of phone calls. Unfortunately, although VoIP traffic is fully encrypted and secured, traffic analysis of this suppression can reveal identifying information about calls made to customer service automated phone systems. Because different customer service phone systems have distinct, but fixed (pre-recorded) automated voice messages sent to customers, VAD silence suppression used in VoIP will enable an eavesdropper to profile and identify these automated voice messages. In this paper, we will use a popular enterprise VoIP system (Cisco CallManager), running the default Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) protocol, to demonstrate that an attacker can reliably use the silence suppression to profile calls to such VoIP systems. Our real-world experiments demonstrate that this side-channel profiling attack can be used to accurately identify not only what customer service phone number a customer calls, but also what following options are subsequently chosen by the caller in the phone conversation. © 2023, CC BY.

Incorporating positive temperature coefficient(PTC)ceramic particles into polymers provides a prospective alternative solution for suppressing severe electric field distortions caused by negative temperature coefficient(NTC)of electrical resistivity within polymer insulation in high voltage direct current *** effect of the Curie temperature of PTC particles on the inhibition of the NTC effect of cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE)is investigated in this *** temperature coefficient particles with varied Curie temperatures are surface-modified and melt blending with *** modified particles are dispersed on averagely in the *** electrical resistivity,space charge behaviour,and direct current(DC)electrical breakdown strength of the samples are investigated at different temperatures,exploring the effect of the Curie temperature of PTC particles on suppressing the NTC effect of *** is demonstrated that the reduction in Curie temperature can further suppress the NTC effect of XLPE,enhance the DC strength at elevated temperatures,and inhibit the internal space charge *** reduction in the Curie temperatures means that the initiation of the PTC effect advances,exhibiting a higher potential barrier and inhibiting the NTC effect more *** work may give a reference for improving the temperature stability of DC properties for XLPE cable insulation.
