The present study explores a simulation model combining system dynamics and discrete-event simulation for an electric vehicle charging system. For the representation of the charging demand the model employs data from an actual facility for vehicle charging. While being connected to the electrical grid, the system is augmented by a solar photovoltaic installation and stationary battery energy storage. Multiple simulation runs were performed to analyze the considered energy system over a 1-year period and compare relevant output parameters for different system configurations and system locations. Results show that a solar photovoltaic installation can be effectively integrated. For the degree of self-sufficiency, high values of 87% can be achieved with combined solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems.

This paper provides an overview of our submission to Task 2 of the Auditory EEG Challenge at ICASSP 2024 Signal Processing Grand Challenge (SPGC). We introduce a novel approach, employing a cross-attention-guided WaveNet with a coarse-to-fine generation strategy, aimed at enhancing the detailed reconstruction of Mel spectrograms from time-domain EEG. Specifically, the model utilizes WaveNet to sequentially reconstruct the envelope, 10-band Mel, 80-band Mel, and magnitude from coarse to fine granular levels. To bridge the gap between different modalities, we introduce a cross-attention mechanism, exploring correlations across modalities. A combined loss function is employed to refine the reconstruction performance. Notably, we achieved Pearson correlation values of 0.0651 ± 0.0153 for the validation set and 0.0413 ± 0.0169 for the heldout-subjects test set, securing the second position in the competition. We release the training code for our model online 1 .

The paper presents integration of fuzzy logic into adaptation mechanism of Luenberger observer for sensorless pulse width modulation-direct torque controlled (PWM-DTC) induction motor (IM) drive. At first, DTC strategy and PWM technique are described. Next, basic mathematical model for state representation, adaptive signal and proportional-integral (PI) adaptation mechanism of Luenberger observer is shown. However, the PI adaptation mechanism cannot ensure desired motor speed responses in both dynamic and steady-state operations of IM drive. Fuzzy logic control theory is added to overcome the disadvantage of PI adaptation mechanism via update proportional gain and integral constant time of PI controller. simulations of sensorless control for two adaptation mechanisms are carried out at different reference speeds. Speed deviations are utilized to evaluate the performance of two adaptation mechanisms at both dynamic and steady-state operations. The impending sixth-generation wireless communication networks are anticipated to guarantee mass connectivity, high integration, and lower power consumption for generating the required beamforming. To achieve these goals, an artificial intelligence (AI) framework is proposed by utilizing holographic MIMO-assisted integrated sensing, localization, and communication. The proposed AI framework ensures lower power consumption to activate the minimum number of grids from the holographic grid array for the generation of holographic beamforming. An optimization problem is formulated to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio received by the users, which in turn maximizes the utility function for sensing considering the user distances, beampattern gains, sensing-communication loss, and dense locations controlling parameter. A novel AI-based framework is proposed to solve the formulated NP-hard optimization problem by decomposing it into two subproblems: the sensing problem and the communication resource allocation problem. First, a variational autoencoder (VAE) based mechanism is devised to solve the sensing problem mitigating the disputes to obtain the users’ exact location. Second, a sequential neural network-based scheme is utilized to allocate the communication resources to the heterogeneous users for generating the desired beamforming based on the findings of the VAE-based mechanism. Moreover, an extreme case power allocation strategy is presented once a large number of users enter the system. The extreme case power allocation strategy applies when the total power prediction exceeds the total system power for allocating the communication resources to the users. Finally, simulation results validate that the proposed AI-based framework outperforms the long short-term memory method with a cumulative power savings of 34.02% taking the ground truth power into account. This paper presents a study of solution strategies for the Cahn-Hilliard-Biot equations, a complex mathematical model for understanding flow in deformable porous media with changing solid phases. Model for the structure function constant for index of refraction fluctuations in Rayleigh-Bénard turbulence

A model for the structure function constant associated with the index of refraction fluctuations in Rayleigh-Bénard turbulence is developed. The model is based upon the following assumptions: (1) the turbulence is homogeneous and isotropic at or near the midplane, (2) the rate of production is in balance with the rate of dissipation, (3) an inertial region exists, and (4) estimates for the rate of dissipation of temperature fluctuations and of turbulent kinetic energy can be made by assuming that the large-scale turbulence is dissipated in one eddy turnover time. From these assumptions, the dependence of the structure function on the geometry, heat flux, and the properties of the fluid is obtained. The model predicts that the normalized structure function constant is independent of the Rayleigh number. To verify the model, numerical simulations of Rayleigh-Bénard turbulence were performed using two different approaches: an in-house code based on a pseudospectral method, and a finite volume code which employs a model for the smallest scales of the turbulence. The model was found to agree with the results of the simulations, thereby lending support for the assumptions underlying the theory.

In this paper, we adapt a two species agent-based cancer model that describes the interaction between cancer cells and healthy cells on a uniform grid to include the interaction with a third species – namely immune cells. We run six different scenarios to explore the competition between cancer and immune cells and the initial concentration of the immune cells on cancer dynamics. We then use coupled equation learning to construct a population-based reaction model for each scenario. We show how they can be unified into a single surrogate population-based reaction model, whose underlying three coupled ordinary differential equations are much easier to analyse than the original agent-based model. As an example, by finding the single steady state of the cancer concentration, we are able to find a linear relationship between this concentration and the initial concentration of the immune cells. This then enables us to estimate suitable values for the competition and initial concentration to reduce the cancer substantially without performing additional complex and expensive simulations from an agent-based stochastic model. The work shows the importance of performing equation learning from agent-based stochastic data for gaining key insights about the behaviour of complex cellular dynamics. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper presents a temperature control framework of Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) of after-treatment system (ATS) which aims to increase the control precise of DOC temperature under different exhaust flow rates. To start with, a control-oriented DOC temperature model is established. Considering the sensitivity of DOC to different exhaust flow rate, a fuzzy adaptive PID temperature control system framework under the Smith predictor is designed. Finally, the controller is verified in the Matlab/Simulink. The results show that when tracking the desired temperature, the overshoot is reduced and the response speed is faster at different exhaust flow rates compared with the traditional PID control system. © 2022 Institute of Physics Publishing. Scaling of Time-Dependent Tunneling Current in Terahertz Scanning Tunneling Microscopes

Terahertz scanning tunneling microscopy (THz-STM) has enabled spatiotemporal imaging with femtosecond temporal resolution and angstrom spatial resolution. In THz-STMs, the junction bias is modulated by coupling THz pulses, which results in transient voltage bias and extremely high transient tunneling currents. In order to have efficient imaging of the sample surface, it is important to understand the nonlinear tunneling current response and its parametric dependence. In this work, we theoretically investigate the basic scaling of rectified electrons in a THz-STM junction. We use a self-consistent quantum model that includes both space-charge potential and exchange-correlation potential, which were ignored in previous studies. Since THz-STMs are operated at high transient voltage in field emission regime, the effects of exchange-correlation potential become crucial. We validate our calculation with recently reported experimental data and investigate the rectification property of the tip-sample junction for different parameters. We find that the time-dependent tunneling current and the electron transport can be manipulated by varying the dc bias voltage (polarity, amplitude), incident THz field (polarity, shape, peak amplitude), work functions of STM tip and sample—especially their difference ΔW, and the tip-sample separation. Our study provides an important framework that can be used in the future to characterize, control, and improve THz-induced currents and probing techniques at the nanometer scale over subpicosecond time periods.

The skin lesion can be thought of as a biological system, so the morpho-granulometry of significant color clusters found in skin lesions is one of the elements that reproduce in a natural way the structure of the lesion, this novelty is highlighted in this study. Important features of skin lesions can be modulated by fusing neural networks (NN) and machine learning (ML). By choosing the nevus and melanoma classes, the primary goal was accomplished, and three databases were used to test the methodology. The characteristics based on morpho-granulometry allowed for the identification of microstructure within the images, which can be very helpful in characterizing the biological system. Based on random forest (RF) and extreme gradient boosting (XGboost) classifiers, this work aimed to improve the classification performance of important feature selection. The selected features from three free image databases with three NNs were classified. In a binary classification of nevus vs. melanoma, the results showed that the pattern recognition neural network (PRNN), according to the PH2 database, provided an accuracy of 0.923 and an F1-score of 0.876. The classification is interpretable if it is not validated. In our study, the best results were verified with a logistic regression (LR) classifier.
