In the dynamic and challenging maritime domain, Search and Rescue (SAR) operations are critical for ensuring the safety of life at sea. Adverse weather conditions often hinder traditional SAR efforts, leading to significant delays or cancellation of search missions. This paper introduces an autonomous search system utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The system combines decision-making techniques for automatic mission generation and a flexible machine-learning framework that allows for easy training and deployment of models to automatically process data gathered during SAR operations. One of the system’s main features is the ease of use in mission planning, where high-level mission goals can be specified via a user interface in the form of data requests. The paper presents the results of the experimental evaluations of the system and showcases its deployment in actual field-test experimentation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

With the rapid evolution of Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), the industry 4.0 era has arisen. As per the IBM prediction, by the constant spread of 5G technology, the IoT intend to be more extensively utilized in industries. Recently, federated learning (FL) turned out to be significant focus among Industrial IoT (IIoT) scholars. Conversely, numerous devices in IIoT presently hold an issue of low computational power, so these devices can't able to function well while challenging the updating and training method tasks in FL. The latest development of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) approaches will help to reinforce these IDSs. The secrecy behaviour of these databases and extensive advent of combative outbreaks makes it challenging for main institutions to transmit their fragile data. Therefore, the current study designs a Federated Learning on Denial-of-Service Attacks Detection and Classification using Deep Transfer Learning (FLDoSADC-DTL) model for BC-supported IIoT environment. The aim of the presented FLDoSADC-DTL approach is to recognize the presence of DoS attacks in the BC-based IIoT environment. To enable secure communication in the IIoT networks, BC technology is used. To accomplish this, the FLDoSADC-DTL technique performs sand cat swarm algorithm (SCSA) based feature subset selection. For the DoS attack detection process, a stacked auto-encoder (SAE) model is utilized in this study. Finally, the black widow optimization algorithm (BWOA) can be implemented for hyperparameter tuning of the SAE technique. A widespread of experiments were performed to emphasize the higher performance of FLDoSADC-DTL method. The complete experimentation outcomes indicated the enhanced performance of FLDoSADC-DTL approach over other recent methods. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Atomic commit protocols, their integration, and their optimisations in distributed database systems

Advanced software application systems commonly execute atop multiple interconnected computing platforms. Regardless of whether the underlying platforms being homogeneous or heterogeneous, such systems require basic reliability guarantees to ensure deterministic outcomes in the presence of faults. Similar guarantees are provided by database systems through the 'atomicity' property of transactions. In distributed database systems, this property is ensured, across different database sites, by means of 'atomic commit protocols' (ACPs). An ACP guarantees, in spite of possible failures, that each transaction has a deterministic final outcome. This outcome represents either the execution of the transaction as a whole, across all participating sites, or none at all. Thus, it is imperative to trace the problem of atomic commitment in distributed database systems and to highlight its current dimensions as well as its proposed solutions. Such an effort establishes a foundational stage for investigating and developing more elaborate and novel solutions to the problem. These solutions are likely to satisfy the reliability needs of future generations' application systems in a cost-effective manner. © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

An intelligent adaptive participant's presumption protocol for atomic commitment in distributed databases

The objective of the original 'adaptive participant's presumption protocol' (AP3) was to achieve the performance advantages of one-phase commit protocols, whenever possible, and, at the same time, the wide applicability of two-phase commit protocols. Specifically, AP3 operates as a one-phase commit protocol for the commit processing of a transaction so long as the transaction is not associated with the validation of any deferred consistency constraints. But, when a transaction is associated with the validation of deferred consistency constraints that need to be synchronised at commit time of the transaction, AP3 dynamically switches to the most appropriate two-phase commit variant. However, providing further intelligence to enhance the performance and applicability of the original AP3 is expected to make it a highly appealing choice for adoption in the design of future distributed database management systems. This is the essence of the 'intelligent AP3' that extends the basic AP3 in two directions: efficiency and applicability. Copyright © 2013 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This paper proposes an adaptive participant's presumption protocol (Ap 3) that can be used to atomically commit Internet transactions. Ap3interoperates a one-phase commitprotocol, namely, implicit-yes vote, and two-phase commit protocols, namely, presumed abort and presumed commit, in a dynamic fashion. Thus, it offers the performance advantage of the combined protocols, whenever possible, while still providing the wide applicability of two-phase commitprotocols. This is achieved in spite ofthe incompatibilities between atomic commit protocols that lead to the general practice ofadopting a single atomic commit protocol in any distributed database system. © 2005 IEEE.

MedfoLink is a software technology that applies novel system design to process and analyze text based medical reports. Through a multi-tier processing scheme, MedfoLink is able classify medical reports by various concepts (symptoms) and syndromes. The supply of symptom-based concepts is derived from the Unified Medical Language Source (UMLS). MedfoLink's processing hierarchy going from report to concept, then to syndrome, and finally to disease, allows for information to be gathered at the levels of detail needed for advanced statistical modeling. Initial trials with emergency room chief complaint reports have shown MedfoLink's potential for syndromic surveillance.

Many organizations and companies around the world are currently facing major security risks that threaten assets and valuable information system resources. Numerous security concerns are caused by the lack of sufficient and effective software security risk evaluation processes. Regardless of the technique used in security attacks, which change rapidly, many of these threats can be avoided. This paper presents an effective model for discovering software security risks at an early stage of the software development cycle and reports on the ongoing development of a security trust metrics of software architecture. © 2011 AICIT.

Status of computer science education in secondary schools: One state's perspective

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has convened the yearly Conference on computer Science Education in the Secondary Schools since 1995 to discuss and carry out a systematic study of issues facing computer science education in the state of New Jersey. The goal is to address the implications of these curricular issues, identify the obstacles to classroom implementation, and to make suggestions for possible solutions. The outcome of these conferences is a clear indication that a seamless articulation between high-school programs and those at university level is of critical importance for secondary school educators and could serve as the foundation for implementing a computer science curriculum in the schools. This paper reviews the current status of secondary schools computer science education in the state of New Jersey and discusses curriculum guidelines formulated by conference participants, themselves classroom teachers. This work, along with previous curriculum re commendations reported in the literature, is intended to serve as the stepping-stone towards establishing and promoting computer science as a recognized discipline in New Jersey's secondary schools. © 1999, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Students can use social media such as Twitter for online learning (E-Learning). This study aims to analyse an accuracy for the sentiments of students about E-Learning who use Indonesian on Twitter social media both positive and negative opinions. The algorithms used are Naive Bayes (NB). Then to optimize the accuracy of the calculation results, the Particle Swarm Optimization (NB-PSO) approach is used. In order to optimize accurate results, this study uses three experimental sequences (scenario 1, scenario 2, and scenario 2) for both NB and NB-PSO algorithms. Each scenario uses different positive and negative comments. The results of the experiment show that in scenario 1 an increase in accuracy is 10.00% for NB-PSO. Scenario 2 there is an increase in accuracy of 13.33% on NB-PSO. Meanwhile, in scenario 3 an increase in accuracy is 27.22% for NB-PSO. These results prove that the accuracy of NB-PSO is better than NB for all scenarios. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The one-two phase commit (1-2PC) protocol is a combination of a one-phase atomic commit protocol, namely, implicit yes-vote, and a two-phase atomic commit protocol, namely, presumed commit. The 1-2PC protocol integrates these two protocols in a dynamic fashion, depending on the behavior of transactions and system requirements, in spite of their incompatibilities. This paper extends the applicability of 1-2PC to the multi-level transaction execution model, which is adopted by database standards. Besides allowing incompatible atomic commit protocols to co-exist in the same environment, 1-2PC has the advantage of enhanced performance over the currently known atomic commit protocols making it more suitable for Internet database applications. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.
