Machine learning and neural networks are increasingly used for mental workload classification. The EEG signals can be used as an important indicator to assess the variation of the mental workload. By extracting the features of the EEG signals, the salient information can be extracted in the temporal and frequency domains. In this work, we applied a hybrid mental workload classification framework that combines extreme learning machine(ELM) and the support vector machine(SVM). The former is used as the member classifier to find hidden information in high-dimensional EEG features. The latter is used to fuse the outputs of the member classifier. Finally, we compare the proposed ELM-SVM model to classical mental workload classifiers and demonstrate its effectiveness.

Membrane-based acoustic metamaterial with near-zero refractive index

We investigate a one-dimensional acoustic metamaterial with a refractive index of near zero（RINZ） using an array of very thin elastic membranes located along a narrow waveguide pipe. The characteristics of the effective density, refractive index, and phase velocity of the metamaterial indicate that, at the resonant frequency fm, the metamaterial has zero mass density and a phase transmission that is nearly uniform. We present a mechanism for dramatic acoustic energy squeezing and anomalous acoustic transmission by connecting the metamaterial to a normal waveguide with a larger cross-section. It is shown that at a specific frequency f1, transmission enhancement and energy squeezing are achieved despite the strong geometrical mismatch between the metamaterial and the normal waveguide. Moreover, to confirm the energy transfer properties, the acoustic pressure distribution, acoustic wave reflection coefficient, and energy transmission coefficient are also calculated. These results prove that the RINZ metamaterial provides a new design method for acoustic energy squeezing,super coupling, wave front transformation, and acoustic wave filtering.

Long period fiber gratings （LPFGs） with different spectral characteristics were fabricated with 1 kHz, 50 fs laser pulses. The contrast of resonant rejection band can be significantly increased by a proper amount of axial stress along a fiber during laser writing or post- processing with lower energy density laser irradiation. Variations of focal condition, pulse energy of laser irradiation and the number of grating periods lead to the generation of resonance rejection band of LPFGs from single-peak to multi-peak plus larger out-of-band loss. The out-of-band loss is primarily caused by Mie scattering from the laser processed cites, and it can be reduced by decreasing the duty cycle of grating pitch instead of lowing down the actual power of laser irradiation.

Aimed to accuracy and convergence of Evolutionary Algorithms for path planning of robots in dynamic environment, this paper integrated cloud model into evolutionary algorithm to improved evolutionary operators. One-dimensional cloud operator was used evolution and mutation, at the same time the previous search results were used. Simulation results show that the method is effective in performance.

In this paper, we deal with the problem of accurate pedestrian tracking in infrared image sequences. We introduce a wavelet entropy features based representation for pedestrians in infrared imagery and study its application into pedestrian tracking using sequential Monte Carlo methods. Firstly, the regions of interest's (ROI) representation is constructed using wavelet entropy which hurdle the disadvantage of insufficient information when only intensity feature is considered. Then the aforementioned pedestrian representation model embedded in the particle filter framework is updated and sample distributions are propagated over time. Experimental results using infrared image sequences are reported to demonstrate the encouraging performance of our algorithms. ©2009 IEEE.

This paper studies the asymptotic stability analysis for static recurrent neural networks with interval time-varying delays. The activation functions are assumed to be neither monotonic, nor differentiable, nor bounded. Without introducing any free-weighting matrices, some delay-range-dependent stability criteria are established by constructing a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. As a result, the criteria involve less variables and have low computational complexity. An example is given to show the effectiveness and the benefits of the proposed method.

This paper is concerned with the asymptotic stability analysis problem for stochastic neural networks with distributed and time-varying delays. By using the stochastic analysis approach, employing some free-weighting matrices and introducing an appropriate type of Lyapunov functional which take into account the ranges of delays, a new stability criterion is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to guarantee the delayed neural networks to be robustly asymptotically stable in the mean square. And the new criterion is applicable to both fast and slow time-varying delays. One numerical example has been used to demonstrate the usefulness of the main results.

The authentication infrastructures of 802.11i and WAPI lack the features of authenticating STAs in the foremost time, and give more opportunities for attackers to launch DoS attacks to consume legal principalsiquest resources on computation and communication. An improved IAKN protocol is presented and its security proof is stated. The analysis shows that it has better security properties and is more efficient than IEEE 802.11i and WAPI. The security properties - session authentication and secret key secrecy - are proved using PCL. The invariants of compositional security guarantees are deduced. The proposed protocol can be securely composed with other protocols when these invariants are protected.
