This paper presents a Multihop Routing Algorithm for Wireless Sensor networks (MBEEC) based on the Dijkstra Algorithm. An important challenge in wireless sensor networks is to balance the energy consumption. The Bio-Inspired Algorithm for Energy Efficient Routing for Continuous Data Dissemination networks Wireless Sensor (BEE-C) can provide important savings on energy consumption but does not provide routing calculations that ensures a long lived topology. Lifetime is an extremely important factor in a Wireless Sensor network, because of the difficulty of maintenance, limited battery, memory and processing that sensors have. MBEEC inherits the properties of BEE-C but uses Dijkstra Algorithm for calculating the routes. To ensure the longer lifetime of the network, MBEEC addresses a multihop algorithm in terms of consumption in a matter more energy efficient than BEE-C using Dijkstra to calculate routes, thus balancing the entire network. © 2015 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a novel coding scheme called separate coding (SC) for collecting all data continuously in wireless sensor networks with a mobile base station (mBS). By separately encoding a certain number of data segments in a combined segment, and storing the combined segments in the corresponding buffers of each sensor node, the SC scheme provides an efficient storage method to collect all data segments. By randomly querying a small subset of sensor nodes, the mBS can reconstruct all the original data segments with high probability. We prove that the success ratio of SC-based data collection is very close to 100%. The number of sensor nodes that should be queried by the mBS can be reduced with a few additional storage space in each sensor node. The performance evaluation has been conducted through computer simulations. It further demonstrates the feasibility and superiority of the proposed SC scheme. © 2015 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

computer science offers a large set of tools for prototyping, writing, running, testing, validating, sharing and reproducing results, however computational science lags behind. In the best case, authors may provide their source code as a compressed archive and they may feel confident their research is reproducible. But this is not exactly true. Jonathan Buckheit and David Donoho proposed more than two decades ago that an article about computational results is advertising, not scholarship. The actual scholarship is the full software environment, code, and data that produced the result. This implies new workflows, in particular in peer-reviews. Existing journals have been slow to adapt: source codes are rarely requested, hardly ever actually executed to check that they produce the results advertised in the article. ReScience is a peer-reviewed journal that targets computational research and encourages the explicit replication of already published research, promoting new and open-source implementations in order to ensure that the original research can be replicated from its description. To achieve this goal, the whole publishing chain is radically different from other traditional scientific journals. ReScience resides on GitHub where each new implementation of a computational study is made available together with comments, explanations, and software tests. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Real-time and remote earthquake monitoring is a powerful tool in developing an Early Warning System (EWS). The Malaysian Meteorological department (MetMalaysia) has the system implemented all over Malaysia since 2004. This paper describes the modeling of felt earthquake events in Ranau, Sabah, West of Malaysia, which observed active seismic activities since 2008. Due to its remote area, geostationary (GEO) satellite network is used to transmit the seismic data to the processing centre. Seismic data from six felt earthquake events are modeled and analysed. In particular, displacement (D), accelerated velocity (V) and acceleration (A) from 2008 to 2014 are analysed and discussed. The feasibility of modeling two outstanding felt earthquake events is assessed using Gaussian distribution with reasonable RMSE values.

Space optical communications is studied at National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, where the Small Optical TrAnsponder (SOTA) was developed and embarked on a 50-kg-class satellite. Atmospheric fluctuation is an issue to be solved in ground-to-satellite optical communication links. The SOTA has error-correcting functions using Reed-Solomon code and low-density generator matrix (LDGM) code to prevent the omission of data from signal fading owing to atmospheric fluctuations. In this paper, we present a demonstration that involves sending image data taken by an onboard camera with LDGM code via satellite-to-ground optical communication links. Our demonstration reveals how to correct the omission of data resulting from atmospheric turbulence and tracking errors.

Nowadays, critical infrastructures are highly integrated with state-of-the-art information and communication technologies to enhance their efficiency. Due to farreaching societal and economic impacts caused by failure or malfunction of critical infrastructures, cyber security and self-healing capability are among their salient features. A new security paradigm referred to as intrusion tolerance is envisaged to complement the existing security solutions (i.e., intrusion prevention and detection), as well as to provide availability and self-healing capabilities, particularly for the control centers as the key components of critical infrastructures. However, intrusion tolerance techniques are associated with substantial cost. In this paper, we propose an intrusion tolerant system architecture which incorporates distinctive features, namely dynamic redundancy level, and hybrid and hierarchical rejuvenation mechanism. The acquired results from security analysis of the proposed architecture show improvements compared to two established architectures. Also, analysis of the incurred cost demonstrates the cost effectiveness of the proposed architecture.

This paper presents a survey about the existing web-based information management system for volunteer services. Based on the survey results the paper highlights the new features and functions of the next generation of the volunteer service system. A prototype system incorporating these features and functions has also been implemented and presented.
