We investigate the impact of node capture attacks on the confidentiality and integrity of network traffic. We map the compromise of network traffic to the flow of current through an electric circuit and propose a metric for quantifying the vulnerability of the traffic using the circuit mapping. We compute the vulnerability metric as a function of the routing and the cryptographic protocols used to secure the network traffic. We formulate the minimum cost node capture attack problem as a nonlinear integer programming problem. Due to the NP-hardness of the minimization problem, we provide a greedy heuristic that approximates the minimum cost attack. We provide examples of node capture attacks using our vulnerability metric and show that the adversary can expend significantly less resources to compromise target traffic by exploiting information leakage from the routing and cryptographic protocols.

We propose a novel interference canceller with an automatic phase control (APC) circuit that compensates for the phase error of interference signals. The proposed APC circuit estimates and compensates for the phase rotation of interference signals, enabling the proposed interference canceller with APC to achieve high BER performance. We use a maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) interference canceller for fixed wireless access (FWA) co-channel interferences. Degradations of signal replica accuracy incur a BER performance penalty. The novel APC circuit, which uses a simple estimation algorithm, can effectively compensate for frequency offset and phase rotation. computer simulations show that our proposed interference canceller improves BER performance.

Popularity of ubiquitous computing increases the importance of location-aware applications, which increases the need for finding location of the user. In this paper, we present a novel localization method for indoor environments using Wi-Fi infrastructure. While localization using Wi-Fi is cost effective, handling the obstructions which are the main cause of signal propagation error in indoor environments is a challenging task. We address this problem in two levels, resulting in increased accuracy of localization. In the first level, we localize the residing area of user node in coarse granularity. Then, we use building layout to find the objects that attenuate the signal between the reference node and the coarse estimate of the location of user node. Using multi-wall propagation model, we apply corrections for all obstructions and find the location of user node. Empirical results based on experiments conducted in lab-scale, shows meter-level accuracy.
