Pneumonia has been a concerning issue worldwide. This infectious disease has a higher mortality rate than Covid-19. More than two million individuals lost their lives in 2019 out of which almost 600,000 were infants less than 5 years of age. Globally, identification of the disease is done manually by radiologists, but this method is highly unreliable as its accuracy is not sufficiently good. With the evolution of computational resources, especially the computing power of GPUs, it has become possible to train very deep CNNs. This study involves a comparative analysis of neural networks for pneumonia recognition. The goal is to do binary image classification for pneumonia recognition on each of the three models, namely, a Sequential model using TensorFlow (built from scratch), ResNet50 and InceptionV3 and comparing their efficiency, to discover which model suits best for smaller datasets and which suits best for larger datasets. Dataset consists of 5856 anterior and posterior Chest X-Ray images labeled as either Normal or Pneumonic. © 2023 IEEE.

With the aging population, health issues have become a significant challenge for society. The increasing demand for remote medical services stems from changing interests in reducing healthcare costs and the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 globally. As the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud technology advance rapidly worldwide, this trend has driven the digital transformation of biotechnology and pharmaceutical-related industries. Health care is shifting from a focus on medical institutions to a decentralized approach, emphasizing care facilities and home-based services. However, remote medical care brings about certain challenges, such as limited appointment availability due to network constraints, concerns about internet security, data encryption, privacy issues, and lack of awareness among people in remote areas. With the continuous development and widespread adoption of technology, smart home systems have become an integral part of modern life. In this project, the system emphasizes interaction with the elderly and utilizes the multifunctionality of touch screens. It provides various features through a simple and user-friendly interface, including health monitoring, outpatient services, life assistance, and social interaction functions. In the future, the system can incorporate more interactive features for the elderly, such as mini-games to enhance cognitive abilities, hand-eye coordination, or rehabilitation training. © 2024 Big Data Analytics, Data Mining and Computational Intelligence. This research explores the potential of Data Mining in Education, particularly in the capability to predict student performance and identify the factors that influence academic outcomes. Employing the UC Irvine Student Performance dataset, the study investigates the efficiency of data mining strategies for predicting student outcomes and the co-relating elements. Amongst the nine ML models evaluated, including an ANN model, the linear SVM emerged as the optimal choice, achieving a significantly higher accuracy of 94.9% and an ROC AUC score of 0.959 with a Logarithmic loss of 1.74 on the test set compared to the other candidates. Beyond prediction, the study examines the influence of various factors on academic performance using the coefficients of the Logistic Regression model. Apart from the two mid-term grades, history of failures, internet access, external school support and the area of residence influence the student's performance in the final examination. By interpreting these findings, the research lays the groundwork for developing data-driven and personalized learning strategies, potentially encouraging a more fair and effective learning environment for all students. © 2024 IEEE.

In order to accurately and quickly recognize Bengali handwritten digits and characters, this paper suggests an FPGA-based hardware accelerator design of ANN for handwritten Bengali character recognition applications. To discover the best FPGA design for the various categorization rates, a study of network designs is first undertaken. Sigmoid as well as ReLU neurons integrated by Xilinx Vivado workspace and an axi DMA controller created in Verilog Hardware Description Language (HDL) make up the majority of its components. It is clear that sigmoid-based function implementation exceeds ReLU-based implementation for very tiny data widths (such as 4 and 8 bits). The maximum detection accuracy for Sigmoid implementation is 94.00%, and the maximum for ReLU is 87.00%. Finally, this hardware upgrade considerably increased processing speed by 4 times compared to software implementation and about 27 times faster in terms of existing CPU-based hardware implementation, in addition to maintaining recognition accuracy the same as software equivalence. Also, the power consumption is reduced by more than half of its existing solution as discussed before. As a result, the fast and accurate recognition of Bengali handwritten numbers with low power consumption was made possible by our specialized ANN models with FPGA capabilities. © 2023 IEEE.

Vehicle communication systems facilitate both vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) connections, playing a crucial role in Intelligent Transportation Systems. Accurate estimation of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is necessary for modern communication systems to be reliable and efficacious. This study aims to identify which machine learning model achieves the highest accuracy in predicting SNR. The analysis focuses on three different models: Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and Linear Regression. The models were built using a comprehensive dataset containing wireless measurements from the iV2V industrial testbeds. The iV2I+ dataset records data from an industrial site where it acquires around 16∼h of the autonomous cleaning robot connected to a private cellular network, meanwhile, the iV2V has accumulated about 10 hours in side-link situations between three Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). It is an appropriate dataset for machine learning purposes because it provides information on positional data, wireless Quality of Service (QoS) measurements, and physical layer characteristics in detail. The models were analyzed based on performance measures including R2 Score, Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and Mean Squared Error (MSE). The Random Forest model outperformed all other models we tested with an MSE of 0.0058, which translates to an RMSE of 0.0762 and an R2 score over the roof.9997 Yes, they performed well also but Random Forest outperformed Gradient Boosting and Linear Regression in all the metrics. Random Forest was the good model that this study could get which is constructed by other models as well, depicting its goodness for designing machine learning algorithms to forecast SNR over a vehicular communication system. Results provide means to develop methods for enhanced communication efficiency and reliability that can be helpful while building safer, more effective transportation systems where ITS plays a significant role. © 2024 IEEE.

Heart disease is still a significant global public health concern, making it necessary to create precise prediction models to identify those who are at risk. The study suggests using data analytics and an advanced learning model (ALM) to forecast cardiac disease. The proposed approach uses cutting-edge data analytics methods and advanced learning algorithms to examine large datasets with various patient demographics, clinical characteristics, and medical histories. The training model Random Forest (RF) was used to find the significant patterns over the training phase. The data are preprocessed to clean and normalize the dataset, taking care of outliers and missing values. Following this, feature selection techniques are used to determine which significant predictors contribute to the risk of heart disease. Lastly, the suggested way to ALM is the combination of Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Neuro-Fuzzy Systems. Lastly, sophisticated data analytics approaches, including ensemble learning, hyper-parameter tweaking, and cross-validation, are used to improve the predictive models' generalization and resilience. Comprehensive tests are carried out using benchmark heart disease datasets, such as the Cleveland Heart Disease dataset and the Framingham Heart Study dataset, to validate the efficacy of the technique. The experimental results show that the suggested approach outperforms baseline models, resulting in higher precision and predictive capacity. © 2024 IEEE.

Noise and artifact removal is a crucial phase of image preprocessing. Digital mammogram images contain many noises (i.e., salt and pepper, speckles) and artifacts (i.e., opacity, markers, chest wall, date, and background). Artifacts, illumination, and fewer pixel resolutions lead to poor-quality images, reducing segmentation and classification accuracy. This work proposes a center adaptive median filter (CEAMF) for noise and artifact removal to improve image quality. The proposed CEAMF filter performs pixel-wise traversal to remove the noise and artifacts. The proposed method is evaluated on collected and DDSM datasets using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and mean square error (MSE) as parameters and compared with median, mean and Gaussian filters. It is found that the MSE value for the mammogram images is reduced using the proposed method compared to other filters. This reduction in MSE leads to an increase in PSNR and improves the image quality of mammograms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In this research article, we show a tunable broad- band absorber based on a simple elliptic structure using vanadium dioxide at terahertz frequencies. We use a single elliptic resonator ring which is made of vanadium dioxide (VO2), positioned on top of a layer of metal and separated by a dielectric spacer. Through full vector numerical simulation, we calculate the absorption bandwidth in the given range, achieving nearly complete absorption (100%) throughout the span of frequencies from 3.5 THz to 4.7 THz. Our theoretical analysis reveals that modifying the ratio η of the semimajor and semiminor axis of the ellipse changes the absorption peak intensity and operating bandwidth as well. The proposed structure also experiences a change in the radii of the semimajor axis which eventually results in a change in the absorption rate. Because of the conductivity of VO2 that controls the properties of the substance, also responsible for the enhancement of the intensity of absorption. Interestingly, we observe that varying the incident angle θ, modifies the absorption magnitude within the asymmetric structure. The distinct reliance on the angle of incidence offers possibilities for applications in the progress of sensing and imaging technology. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper aims to propose a new method for reinforcement learning and compare it with a PID controller in the Quadruple-tank system in the presence of uncertainty. We use one of the popular structures called actor-critic and train it using a deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm. These methods are compared in terms of accuracy and rise time to show which one can have better performance if we consider uncertainty. The proposed method represents an approach that considers some changes in observation dimensions by a series of error items consisting of some previous and current errors and then trains the Reinforcement Learning algorithm through these new observations. Finally, the results of these methods are compared by simulations and the proposed method's performance is evaluated. Which specifies our approach has better performance. ©2024 IEEE.

Agriculture is one of the most important and necessary sources of national wealth. Plant and crop diseases are one of the major factors that affect output quality and quantity. Lack of quality and quantity in food production creates a negative impact on the economy as well. Hence, it is crucial to identify plant diseases. Studies reveal a wide range of plant diseases occurring in different parts of the world. Various components of plants exhibit symptoms of plant diseases especially, the leaves. Extensive research is conducted across the globe and many horticulture specialists in liaison with technological experts apply computer vision and soft computing methods to automatically detect plant diseases from leaf photos. This article provides a summary of several aspects of such studies, along with their benefits and drawbacks. The authors addresses common infections as well as the state of such detection systems' research at various stages. The current feature extraction methods are examined in order to determine which one seems to function best across a variety of crop categories. This study will aid researchers in their understanding of the use of computer vision for identifying and categorizing plant diseases. © 2023 IEEE.
