This book presents the proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Trust, P- vacy and Security in Digital Business (TrustBus 2010), held in Bilbao, Spain during August 30–31, 2010. The conference continued from previous events held in Zaragoza (2004), Copenhagen (2005), Krakow (2006), Regensburg (2007), Turin (2008) and Linz (2009). The recent advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) have raised new opportunities for the implementation of novel applications and the provision of high-quality services over global networks. The aim is to utilize this ‘information society era’ for improving the quality of life for all citizens, disseminating knowledge, strengthening social cohesion, generating earnings and finally ensuring that organi- tions and public bodies remain competitive in the global electronic marketplace. - fortunately, such a rapid technological evolution cannot be problem-free. Concerns are raised regarding the ‘lack of trust’ in electronic procedures and the extent to which ‘information security’ and ‘user privacy’ can be ensured. TrustBus 2010 brought together academic researchers and industry developers, who discussed the state of the art in technology for establishing trust, privacy and security in digital business. We thank the attendees for coming to Bilbao to participate and debate the new emerging advances in this area.

New trends in software development have proposed different interaction mechanisms for software applications. For instance, the Software as a Service (SaaS) model has defined a new delivery and access method, and installation and update processes in the user's computer are not required, software is hosted in a server and can be used over Internet instead. Middleware platforms are required in SaaS frameworks in order to support software services. Currently, web applications are taking full advantages of SaaS benefits, because they can be delivered over Internet and developed according to a service model. However, web applications are still under a maturity process and a low degree of efficiency and reusability are achieved. This paper proposes a web service-based framework according to component software engineering (CBSE), with the aim of developing efficient and reusable web applications. Moreover, web services are the middleware technology that provides full accessibility for this type of components.

We propose a decentralized traffic information system-AutoNomos-that is based on a thorough investigation of the properties of traffic and recommends a hierarchical data aggregation and forwarding for providing individualized information and support to road users. Our approach differs from work in the field by consequently applying local rules and local decentralized data processing, which turns out to be a key property of robust and scalable computing systems. We present a flexible VANET middleware that assists the application development by providing generic functionality for traffic applications. We discuss the architectural design of the overall system and provide solutions of important design concepts demonstrating the innovation of the approach.

Single image super-resolution has attracted increasing attention and has a wide range of applications in satellite imaging, medical imaging, computer vision, security surveillance imaging, remote sensing, objection detection, and recognition. Recently, deep learning techniques have emerged and blossomed, producing " the state-of-the-art” in many domains. Due to their capability in feature extraction and mapping, it is very helpful to predict high-frequency details lost in low-resolution images. In this paper, we give an overview of recent advances in deep learning-based models and methods that have been applied to single image super-resolution tasks. We also summarize, compare and discuss various models from the past and present for comprehensive understanding and finally provide open problems and possible directions for future research.

Flow-Based Service Time Optimization in Software-Defined Networks Using Deep Reinforcement Learning

A Ternary Content-Addressable Memory (TCAM) constitutes a memory variant employed within Software Defined Networking (SDN) node flow tables. These TCAMs deliver swift processing, enabling rapid parallel lookups. Nonetheless, due to their high energy consumption and cost, TCAMs have limited dimensions. This size constraint influences rule capacity, and suboptimal rule management can degrade network quality of service. This paper tackles the Rule Placement Problem (RPP) in SDN through the proposal of a Deep-Reinforcement Learning (DRL) solution, namely DRL-Idle, to maximize the service time of the flows flowing through the network while minimizing the number of rule installations required to steer them. DRL-Idle, which is based on the idea of dynamically modifying the idle timeout value of the flows according to their needs, outperforms existing approaches aiming at solving the RPP, averaging a 30% increase in performance. © 2023, The Authors. Programmers of embedded digital signal processors often have to deal with the devices of the platform or with low level hardware abstraction layers in order to reach the better performance from a given algorithm. This complexity increases when the application is distributed on multicomputers such as those by SundanceTM, Hunt engineeringTM, etc. These machines are loosely coupled networks based on carrier boards hosting modules of digital signal processors and FPGAs. This paper describes the design and implementation of a network layer library for these platforms. We show how, without a significative lost of performance, it improves the portability of target applications by avoiding the hardware communication complexities. More important yet, it broadens the spectrum of network applications and middlewares that these powerful platforms can support. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

A TCAM (Ternary Content-Addressable Memory) is a type of memory used in the flow tables of Software Defined Networking (SDN) nodes. Although these memories are very fast, their size is limited. This has an impact on the number of rules that can be installed, and an inefficient rule management can lead to a degradation of the network quality of service. In this work, an heuristic algorithm named Active Traffic First (ATF) is proposed to efficiently manage the content of the flow tables of the SDN nodes in order to maximize the Global Service Time (GST) of the active flows in the network. The idea behind ATF is adopted by deleting flows that are not being used in case a new flow aims to be served and there is no space available. Experimental results show that ATF outperforms other state-of-the-art solutions by improving GST and reducing re-installations.

The selection of the best color space is a fundamental task in detecting foreground objects on scenes. In many situations, especially on dynamic backgrounds, neither grayscale nor RGB color spaces represent the best solution to detect foreground objects. Other standard color spaces, such as YCbCr or HSV, have been proposed for background modeling in the literature;although the best results have been achieved using diverse color spaces according to the application, scene, algorithm, etc. In this work, a color space and color component weighting selection process is proposed to detect foreground objects in video sequences using self-organizing maps. Experimental results are also provided using well known benchmark videos.

The Internet is the most powerful engine for social and economic growth, and it needs to be accessible to everybody. However, the possibilities for people living in rural areas to use digital services through broadband access are reduced compared to the inhabitants of urban zones. In this paper, digital services are brought closer to people living in rural areas where there is lack of Internet connectivity by means of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) based network. Decomposing loT applications into microservices and deploying them into UAV s allow to reduce their latency and hence to improve the associated quality of service, which is strict for this type of applications. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed solution, comparing the latency experienced by the applications in case there is lack of Internet connectivity with the situation in which one of the UAV s is able to reach a ground base station.

The advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm allows for real-world tasks to be monitorized and managed using computing applications. The application of IoT to the industrial environment leads to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), in which industrial processes are managed through IoT, thus allowing industry workers to better control their facilities and processes. However, IIoT applications have very strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, such as short response times, that require for the deployment of their services in edge nodes, close to the facilities. In IIoT scenarios, deploying each of the services so that the QoS requirements are met is not an easy task. Moreover, the dynamicity of the environment requires for a fast, adaptive solution. In this position paper, we propose DeQALE, an approach to train a deep reinforcement learning agent to solve this problem in short cycles.
