One of the most important web-based services that established the foundations of the web 2.0 is the weblog. weblogs are evolving to be topic based systems that can lead to more revenue for companies. Therefore many companies provide free weblog hosting. weblog popularity is an effective factor to gain more revenue. weblogs have posts and topics that are arranged chronologically with the most recent post first. Some weblogs have so many posts that it makes finding a specific post very difficult. On the other hand irrelevant ordering of the posts makes it worse. weblogs that do not have the posts in a proper order may result in decreasing the popularity of weblogs. Our experiments on Farsi weblogs have shown that many viewers close weblog windows before they are completely loaded in their web browsers. This is due to a large number of posts on the weblogs. Adaptive filtering of the posts on the weblogs can provide the readers with information that interests them. This paper introduces a new approach for filtering and reordering weblog posts based on user's browsing history. Our experimental results show that our filtering approach can improve weblog popularity and increases the number of weblog viewers. In this paper, two approaches to utilizing contextual information in semantic image analysis are presented and comparatively evaluated. Both approaches make use of spatial context in the form of fuzzy directional relations. The first one is based on a Genetic Algorithm (GA), which is employed in order to decide upon the optimal semantic image interpretation by treating semantic image analysis as a global optimization problem. On the other hand, the second method follows a Binary Integer Programming (BIP) technique for estimating the optimal solution. Both spatial context techniques are evaluated with several different combinations of classifiers and low-level features, in order to demonstrate the improvements attained using spatial context in a number of different image analysis schemes.

Service concept is evolving as a broad idea recurrently discussed in recent years as it originates from many disciplines such as marketing, operations and computer science. Despite this interdisciplinary nature of service concept, existing methodologies for building service-oriented systems provide limited support to include a complete coverage of various engineering phases for a unified development and are therefore not directly applicable to service-oriented architectures. In particular, the design of coordination mechanisms between service providers and customers as well as the design of a common vocabulary in an inter-organizational setting is not adequately addressed. To face these shortcomings, in this position paper, we present an interdisciplinary approach integrating recently proposed methodologies into one coherent engineering methodology. The methodology aims to build a system that extends the basic find-bind-execute paradigm of web services on an electronic market platform.

Every piece of textual data is generated as a method to convey its authors' opinion regarding specific topics. Authors deliberately organize their writings and create links, i.e., references, acknowledgments, for better expression. Thereafter, it is of interest to study texts as well as their relations to understand the underlying topics and communities. Although many efforts exist in the literature in data clustering and topic mining, they are not applicable to community discovery on large document corpus for several reasons. First, few of them consider both textual attributes as well as ***, scalability remains a significant issue for large-scale datasets. Additionally, most algorithms rely on a set of initial parameters that are hard to be captured and tuned. Motivated by the aforementioned observations, a hierarchical community model is proposed in the paper which distinguishes community cores from affiliated members. We present our efforts to develop a scalable community discovery solution for large-scale document corpus. Our proposal tries to quickly identify potential cores as seeds of communities through relation analysis. To eliminate the influence of initial parameters, an innovative attribute-based core merge process is introduced so that the algorithm promises to return consistent communities regardless initial parameters. Experimental results suggest that the proposed method has high scalability to corpus size and feature dimensionality, with more than 15% topical precision improvement compared with popular clustering techniques. Blogs, Wikis, and Social Bookmark Tools have rapidly emerged on the web. The reasons for their immediate success are that people are happy to share information, and that these tools provide an infrastructure for doing so without requiring any specific skills. At the moment, there exists no foundational research for these systems, and they provide only very simple structures for organising knowledge. Individual users create their own structures, but these can currently not be exploited for knowledge sharing. The objective of the seminar was to provide theoretical foundations for upcoming web 2.0 applications and to investigate further applications that go beyond bookmark- and file-sharing. The main research question can be summarized as follows: How will current and emerging resource sharing systems support users to leverage more knowledge and power from the information they share on web 2.0 applications? Research areas like Semantic web, Machine Learning, information Retrieval, information Extraction, Social Network Analysis, Natural Language Processing, Library and information Sciences, and Hypermedia Systems have been working for a while on these questions. In the workshop, researchers from these areas came together to assess the state of the art and to set up a road map describing the next steps towards the next generation of social software. © 2008 Dagstuhl Seminar Proceedings. The World Wide web (WWW) is becoming one of the most preferred and widespread mediums of learning. Unfortunately, most of the current web-based learning systems are still delivering the same educational resources in the same way to learners with different profiles. A number of past efforts have dealt with e-learning personalization, generally, relying on explicit information. In this paper, we aim to compute on-line automatic recommendations to an active learner based on his/her recent navigation history, as well as exploiting similarities and dissimilarities among user preferences and among the contents of the learning resources. First we start by mining learner profiles using web usage mining techniques and content-based profiles using information retrieval techniques. Then, we use these profiles to compute relevant links to recommend for an active learner by applying a number of different recommendation strategies.

A heterogeneous wireless network is constructed by a variety of wireless networks. More and more researches try to achieve seamless handoff between WWAN and WLAN in accordance with all layers. It is anticipated that the future wireless mobile Internet will be a pluralistic wireless environment. Majority of traditional location management schemes are based on paging mobile terminal within each domain area. This paper proposes a speed-based mobility management scheme to minimize the paging overhead cost and the resource reservation. Our proposed scheme consists of three main approaches. First, the mobile terminal location update is based on the movement speed, and this information will be transmitted to the system for dynamic management. Second, the required bandwidth of an application is dependent on the selection of the most suitable wireless network dynamically. Lastly, the classification of applications is applied to avoid handoff failures. The simulation results show about 40% reduction in signaling cost and significant paging delay improvement.

Description logics are a popular, and widely used, formalism for describing domain knowledge in a structured way. To cope with the vagueness of real-world knowledge, several fuzzy description logics have already been proposed. In this contribution, we argue that, rather than modelling all vagueness in a generalized description logic, it may be more natural to encode vague attributes in concrete domains [1], and to model vague predicates on the level of query processing.

This paper describes the three TREC tasks we participated in this year, which are, Genomics track's categorization task and ad hoc task, and Enterprise track's known item search task. For the categorization task, we adopt a domain-specific terms extraction method and an ontology-based method for feature selection. A SVM classifier and a Rocchio based two staged classifier were also used in this experiment. For the ad-hoc task, we used BM25 algorithm, probabilistic model and query expansion. For the Enterprise track, language model was adopted, and entity recognition was also implemented in our experiment.
