Autonomous Systems (AS) enable systems to adapt to drastic and unprecedented environmental changes, a capability that can be enhanced through the utilization of Digital Twins (DTs). However, the additional capabilities of AS come at the cost of explainability, as the expanding adaptation space complicates the reasoning about the system's behavior. For certain types of systems, it is crucial to ensure that specific properties are upheld despite the system's autonomous behavior. To facilitate the monitoring of these properties, we propose the use of Runtime Verification (RV). This tutorial demonstrates the integration of RV tools into the Digital Twins as a Service (DTaaS) platform to monitor and verify the behavior of AS in real-time. By exploring various methods to incorporate RV tools within a DT context, the tutorial aims to advance the application of RV technologies in autonomic computing and self-adaptive system design. Specifically, we demonstrate how the behavior of a self-configuring DT can be verified utilizing RV. This is accomplished through the DTaaS platform, which supports seamless deployment of DT-based AS.

It my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to FoSER 2010: The FSE/SDP Workshop on the Future of software engineering Research. This workshop was organized in collaboration with and made possible by generous support from the software Design and Productivity Coordinating Group (SDP) of the U.S. National Coordination Office (NCO) for Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). This one-time, international working conference has brought together top academic and industrial researchers and government research funding agency personnel from around the world to engage in an extended discussion of consequential new ideas about the future of our field. The ideas produced by this workshop will be disseminated in two forms. First, the position papers accepted by the program committee will be published in a companion to the Proceedings of FSE-18. Second, the workshop findings will be published subsequently in a special report by NITRD/SDP. The call for papers for FoSER 2010 solicited 4-page position papers with new ideas about the future of software and software-reliant systems, and the research that will be needed to meet future needs. Papers were expected to be creative and thought-provoking, and to articulate compelling new perspectives, positions, problem formulations, assumptions and approaches. The workshop did not seek, and did not accept, technical research papers or abstracts. The workshop received a total of 139 position papers. Of these, 90 papers (65%) were accepted. Each paper was reviewed by at least two members of the workshop program committee. The committee was asked to accept all papers presenting significant new ideas about how our field should move forward. Copyright 2010 ACM.

Feature modelling is a cornerstone of software product line engineering, providing a means to represent software variability through features and their relationships. Since its inception in 1990, feature modelling has evolved through various extensions, and after three decades of development, there is a growing consensus on the need for a standardised feature modelling language. Despite multiple endeavours to standardise variability modelling and the creation of various textual languages, researchers and practitioners continue to use their own approaches, impeding effective model sharing. In 2018, a collaborative initiative was launched by a group of researchers to develop a novel textual language for representing feature models. This paper introduces the outcome of this effort: the Universal Variability Language (\UVL), which is designed to be human-readable and serves as a pivot language for diverse software engineering tools. The development of \UVL drew upon community feedback and leveraged established literature in the field of variability modelling. The language is structured into three levels -Boolean, Arithmetic, and Type- and allows for language extensions to introduce additional constructs enhancing its expressiveness. \UVL is integrated into various existing software tools, such as FeatureIDE and FLAMA, and is maintained by a consortium of institutions. © 2024, The Authors. Information security threats and an easy-to-implement attack detection framework for wireless sensor network-based smart grid applications

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) when combined with various energy harvesting solutions managing to prolong the overall lifetime of the system and enhanced capabilities of the communication protocols used by modern sensor nodes are efficiently used in are efficiently used in Smart Grid (SG), an evolutionary system for the modernization of existing power grids. However, wireless communication technology brings various types of security threats. In this study, firstly the use of WSNs for SG applications is presented. Second, the security related issues and challenges as well as the security threats are presented. In addition, proposed security mechanisms for WSN-based SG applications are discussed. Finally, an easy- to-implement and simple attack detection framework to prevent attacks directed to sink and gateway nodes with web interfaces is proposed and its efficiency is proved using a case study.

In recent years, robots have started to become more commonplace in our lives, from factory floors to museums, festivals and shows. They have started to change how we work and play. With an increase in the population of the elderly, they have also been started to be used for caregiving services, and hence many countries have been investing in the robot development. The advancements in robotics and wireless communications has led to the emergence of autonomous caregiving robot teams which cooperate to accomplish a set of tasks assigned by human operators. Although wireless communications and devices are flexible and convenient, they are vulnerable to many risks compared to traditional wired networks. Since robots with wireless communication capability transmit all data types, including sensory, coordination, and control, through radio frequencies, they are open to intruders and attackers unless protected and their openness may lead to many security issues such as data theft, passive listening, and service interruption. In this paper, a secure web-based communication framework is proposed to address potential security threats due to wireless communication in robot-robot and human-robot interaction. The proposed framework is simple and practical, and can be used by caregiving robot teams in the exchange of sensory data as well as coordination and control data.

These are the proceedings of the first teacher training of the Erasmus+ project No. 2020-1-PT01-KA203-078646 -- Sustrainable. The full title of this project is Promoting Sustainability as a Fundamental Driver in software Development Training and Education and the interested reader may know more about it at: https://*** The flagship contribution is the organization of two summer schools on sustainable software production. The first summer school is moved due to the Corona pandemic. It is now scheduled for July 2022 in Rijeka, Croatia. This summer school will consist of lectures and practical work for master and PhD students in the area of computing science and closely related fields. There will be contributions from Plovdiv University, University of Ko\v{s}ice, University of Coimbra, University of Minho, E\"otv\"os Lor\'and University, University of Rijeka, Radboud University Nijmegen, University of Pula, University of Amsterdam and Babe\c{s}-Bolyai University. To prepare and streamline this summer school, the consortium organized a teacher training in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. This was an event of five full days on November 1-5, 2022 organized by Ingrid Berenbroek, Mart Lubbers and Pieter Koopman on the campus of the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Sustainability is one of the themes within the strategy of the Radboud University called `A Significant Impact', see https://***/sustainability/organisation/radboud-sustainable/. Sustainability plays an important role in education, research, and management. The contributions were reviewed and give a good overview of what can be expected from the summer school. His early assignments were with the General Engineering Laboratory and the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady. N. Y. He joined the Marine Turbine and Gear Department in 1968 as Manager Engineering Administration. and assumed his present assignment as Manager Engineering Resource Planning & Administration in 1976. Mr. Gingrich was instrumental in procuring the Interactive Graphics System for the Medium Steam Department. having headed up the Study Team and is now responsible for the Interactive Graphics Systems management including new procurements. He is a member of the American Institute of Design Drafting and is currently the Chairman of the Computer-Aided Drafting Committee in that organization. Mr. Reinhold L. Winter is a graduate of the General Electric Apprentice Program and Salem State College from which he received his B.S. degree in Business Administration. He has nineteen years experience with the General Electric Company including eight years in Business Systems and Programming two years in Computer Operations Management and six years in his present position as Manager Engineering Business Systems. He was a member of the original Study Team that investigated and selected the present Applicon Interactive Graphics (IAG) equipment and currently is responsible for the management of software and hardware support for the ZAG Facility.

This paper discusses the Interactive Graphics System used by the General Electric Company, Medium Steam Turbine department (engineering & Manufacturing) for designing, drafting, and manufacturing applications. A brief overview of the hardware malting up the system is described, followed by a more detailed description of the actual applications. Two-dimensional applications described include a Heat Balance Analysis, Flow Diagrams, and Electrical Schematics. A more fruitful area for increased productivity gains is described in the three-dimensional or mechanical applications including turbine design & layout and bucket design. coordination of the design with manufacturing for numerical control tape generation is described through CAM and Plate Frame Cutting applications. Finally, a short review of the engineering design work using Interactive Graphics is discussed. Productivity gains of 2.6 to 1 are being realized, and the overall savings to the Medium Steam department are outlined.

The SCIP Optimization Suite provides a collection of software packages for mathematical optimization centered around the constraint integer programming framework SCIP. This paper discusses enhancements and extensions contained in version 8.0 of the SCIP Optimization Suite. Major updates in SCIP include improvements in symmetry handling and decomposition algorithms, new cutting planes, a new plugin type for cut selection, and a complete rework of the way nonlinear constraints are handled. Additionally, SCIP 8.0 now supports interfaces for Julia as well as Matlab. Further, UG now includes a unified framework to parallelize all solvers, a utility to analyze computational experiments has been added to GCG, dual solutions can be postsolved by PaPILO, new heuristics and presolving methods were added to SCIP-SDP, and additional problem classes and major performance improvements are available in *** Codes 90C05, 90C10, 90C11, 90C30, 90C90, 65Y05 Copyright © 2021, The Authors. The SCIP Optimization Suite provides a collection of software packages for mathematical optimization centered around the constraint integer programming framework SCIP. The focus of this paper is on the role of the SCIP Optimization Suite in supporting research. SCIP's main design principles are discussed, followed by a presentation of the latest performance improvements and developments in version 8.0, which serve both as examples of SCIP's application as a research tool and as a platform for further developments. Further, the paper gives an overview of interfaces to other programming and modeling languages, new features that expand the possibilities for user interaction with the framework, and the latest developments in several extensions built upon *** Codes 90C05, 90C10, 90C11, 90C30, 90C90, 65Y05 Copyright © 2023, The Authors.
