Multilabel learning is an emergent topic that addresses the challenge of associating multiple labels with a single instance simultaneously. Multilabel datasets often exhibit high dimensionality with noisy, irrelevant, and redundant features. In recent years, multilabel feature selection (MLFS) has gained prominence as a crucial and emerging machine learning task due to its ability to handle such data effectively. However, existing approaches for MLFS often prioritize top-ranked features based on intrinsic data criteria, disregarding relationships within the feature subset. Additionally, compared with conventional feature selection, multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) have not been widely explored in the context of MLFS. This study aims to address these gaps by proposing a multimodal multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MMOEA) called MMDE_SICD which incorporates a preelimination scheme, an improved initialization scheme, an exploration scheme inspired by genetic operations and a statistically inspired crowding distance scheme. The results show that the proposed MMDE_SICD algorithm can outperform a variety of MOEAs and MMOEAs as well as conventional MLFS algorithms. Notably, this study is the first of its kind to consider MLFS as a multimodal multiobjective problem. © 2020 IEEE.

A comparative analysis for deep-learning-based approaches for image forgery detection

The detection of counterfeit photographs is critical in the digital age because of the widespread development of digital media and its significant impact on social networks. The legitimacy of digital content is being threatened by the growing sophistication of picture counterfeiting. With the help of pre-trained VGG-16 models and deep learning techniques that integrate Error Level Analysis (ELA) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), this study presents a fresh solution to this problem. The study thoroughly assesses and contrasts these models with a dataset that has been carefully chosen to bring the presented findings into perspective. To ensure a reliable evaluation of each model's performance 5000 experiments were carried out in total. With an accuracy rate of 99.87% and an accurate identification rate of 99% of hidden forgeries, the results demonstrate the exceptional effectiveness of the ELA-CNN model. However, despite its robustness, the VGG-16 model only achieves a significantly lower accuracy rate of 97.93% and a validation rate of 75.87%. This study clarifies the relevance of deep learning in the identification of image forgeries and highlights the practical ramifications of various models. Moreover, the research recognizes its constraints, especially for highly advanced counterfeits, and proposes possible paths for enhancing the accuracy and scope of detection algorithms. In the ever-changing world of digital media, the thorough comparative analysis provided in this study offers insightful information that can direct the creation of accurate forgery detection tools, protecting digital content integrity and reducing the effects of image manipulation. © (2023), (Society of Sytematic Innovation). N-of-one differential gene expression without control samples using a deep generative model

Differential analysis of bulk RNA-seq data often suffers from lack of good controls. Here, we present a generative model that replaces controls, trained solely on healthy tissues. The unsupervised model learns a low-dimensional representation and can identify the closest normal representation for a given disease sample. This enables control-free, single-sample differential expression analysis. In breast cancer, we demonstrate how our approach selects marker genes and outperforms a state-of-the-art method. Furthermore, significant genes identified by the model are enriched in driver genes across cancers. Our results show that the in silico closest normal provides a more favorable comparison than control samples. © 2023, The Author(s).

Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) is a widely adopted video streaming protocol. Adaptive Bitrate Streaming (ABR) algorithm is utilized to dynamically switch between different bitrates. However, traditional ABR algorithms have gradually failed to meet users' demands for high-quality video transmission, especially in complex network environments. Thus, the current research focus has shifted towards enhancing the accuracy of algorithm. The advent of edge computing has brought new possibilities for DASH transmission. Edge computing-based algorithms can make decisions from a more macroscopic perspective, which can enhance algorithm efficiency. In this paper, we propose an edge computing-based strategy that enables the edge server to obtain the actual file size of the next segment at every bitrate. As a result, edge servers can obtain more informations. We further propose an edge-based system model that assists the ABR algorithm in achieving better operational efficiency. With additional information, the algorithm located at the edge node possesses the capability to make more precise decisions, which is advantageous for enhancing the quality of experience (QoE) for users. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed strategy can significantly enhance QoE and network resource utilization. © 2023 IEEE.

The automatic segmentation of tumours or lesions from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) pictures is a critical but difficult task in clinical settings, sometimes necessitating laborious and time-consuming techniques. Deep learning has made a significant advancement in the medical imaging field in recent years. U-Net has emerged as the predominant model used for segmenting medical images. Although the standard U-Net framework has shown excellent performance in segmenting multimodal medical pictures, it has been noticed that it lags in certain aspects when dealing with tough datasets. We propose specific improvements to the state-of-the-art U-Net model. We have introduced attention block in the skipped connections to highlight relevant features. Additionally, we have incorporated transformers in the encoding path to capture temporal dependencies in medical images. In this research work, we have introduced an innovative architecture that has the potential to replace the U-Net model for segmenting regions of interest (ROI) in medical images. This study utilizes a total of 1760 samples obtained from the ISBI 2015 and PH2 medical repositories. The experimental findings have demonstrated that our proposed model has obtained highly encouraging results of 78.02 Jaccard coefficient and IoU of 65.14. In addition, we conducted tests and compared the performance of the proposed model with the classical U-Net model using the same dataset. As a result, we observed a relative improvement in the performance of both 2.36 and 1.85, respectively. The proposed technology will function as a sophisticated toolkit for radiologists to precisely detect and diagnose anomalous tumour cells. © 2024 IEEE.

Machine learning systems have gained tremendous attention in solving complex tasks. For instance, image classification using machine learning has multiple applications in the medical field, where different imaging modalities are used for diagnosing, detecting, and classifying diseases. This study aims to analyze different machine-learning approaches for detecting knee osteoarthritis using X-rays. We used different machine learning algorithms to classify X-ray images of the knee to various levels of osteoarthritis severity. We have solved the problem as a binary classification task, multi-class classification, and ordinal regression task. The Histogram of Oriented Gradients and Haralick Features are used for feature extraction in the binary classification task. For Binary Classification, six experiments are performed using different machine learning classifiers. Logistic regression has a maximum accuracy of 84.50%, F measure of 81%, AUC of 0.84, Mathew's Correlation Coefficient of 0.69, and Cohen's Kappa 0.66. 10-Fold cross-validation also reveals that the models' performance is consistent across all folds. Furthermore, texture and shape features are extracted for ordinal classification using the histogram of oriented gradients and dense DAISY descriptors. Finally, separate experiments are performed, and results for both descriptors are compared. Our implemented approaches have shown state-of-the-art results. © 2023 IEEE.

Travelers usually check information about the destination before they decide to go. However, sometimes the information is too much to handle and causes confusion. A filtering mechanism is needed to help them make their choices. The solution is to implement a recommendation system;some common techniques that are used for this are Collaborative Filtering and content-based filtering, but both techniques have their flaws. Therefore, we propose a solution to combine those two methods through Graph Neural Network architectures to help fix their flaws. The proposed method will be used for recommending hotels in Indonesia using the HotelRec dataset as the base dataset and hotel features acquired from the TripAdvisor API. We use several GNN architectures, such as GCN, LightGCN, GraphSAGE, and GAT, to implement our approach. Then, we compare it to several baseline models, such as SVD and NeuMF, which are common baselines in recommendation systems. The performance of these models is calculated based on three metrics: HitRate@K, NDCG@K, and Recall@K. Based on the result of this experiment, we found that incorporating hotel features into the learning process of the model, accompanied by user-item interactions, boosted the model's performance by at least 20% in all metrics, especially in datasets with a smaller number of interactions. © 2024 The Authors.

The field of Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) has recently witnessed an emerging direction seeking to tackle the issue of data incompleteness. Recognizing that the language modality typically contains dense sentiment information, we consider it as the dominant modality and present an innovative Language-dominated Noise-resistant Learning Network (LNLN) to achieve robust MSA. The proposed LNLN features a dominant modality correction (DMC) module and dominant modality based multimodal learning (DMML) module, which enhances the model's robustness across various noise scenarios by ensuring the quality of dominant modality representations. Aside from the methodical design, we perform comprehensive experiments under random data missing scenarios, utilizing diverse and meaningful settings on several popular datasets (e.g., MOSI, MOSEI, and SIMS), providing additional uniformity, transparency, and fairness compared to existing evaluations in the literature. Empirically, LNLN consistently outperforms existing baselines, demonstrating superior performance across these challenging and extensive evaluation metrics. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Breast cancer is a prevalent tumor across women and is associated with a high mortality rate. Prompt diagnosis is one of the biggest challenges that needs to be addressed globally, as it can considerably improve survival rates. An automatic diagnosis system based on deep learning models is critical for improving detection, prediction accuracy, and survivability. This study used various DenseNet-based architectures for multi-class classification using the BUSI dataset. The experiments indicate that the fine-tuned DenseNet201 model outperforms with an accuracy of 98.28%. The results demonstrate the promising capability of the fine-tuned DenseNet201 model to have a high potential for further implementation in practice for achieving early diagnosis and highly individualized approaches for better treatment. The further development of extensive and diverse data sets will be essential for developing new diagnostic methods and improving the existing ones. © 2025 IEEE.
