This paper reports on a new hybrid TD-AIM-MOD scheme for analyzing transient scattering from the perfect electrically conducting structures. The scheme reduces the computational complexity of a classically formulated MOD solver from N o 2 N s 2 to N o log 2 N o N s 1.5 log 2 N s - here N o is the maximum order of the Laguerre polynomials used to expand the temporal current signature. Just as in MOT-TD-AIM solvers, the scatterer is embedded in a 3D regular grid and sources are projected onto this grid via moment matching. Next, fields are propagated on this grid by using a 3D spatial FFT and a blocked 1D “temporal” (order) FFT. Finally, fields at observers are obtained by interpolating their values from the regular spatial grid, followed by a near field correction operation. The accuracy and stability characteristics of the TD-AIM-MOD method are demonstrated via its application to large-scale scattering problems.

Model-based enterprise, as the name implies, utilizes three-dimensional (3D) high fidelity models to drive and enable all functions of an enterprise. While many leading manufacturers make extensive use of modeling and simulation tools in their engineering and business processes, model-based enterprise concept represents a sweeping change in the technological foundation, business processes and culture of the enterprise. In this work, a new interactive and immerse model-based manufacturing tool is developed to access manufacturability, reliability and virtual performance of printed circuit boards in electronics manufacturing. The predictive environment for visualization of electromechanical virtual validation (PREVIEW) is a high fidelity 3D environment enables virtual test including physics-based models such as electromagnetic compatibility and thermal character tics. Features of the developed tool are demonstrated and sample test runs are presented in this paper.

In the present work electrical and impact properties of IM7/977-3 carbon fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite laminates with carbon nanotube (CNT) buckypaper layers are investigated. The main goal is to examine the effects of addition of various number of CNT buckypaper layers on the electrical resistance and impact performance of IM7/977-3 composites. The work is motivated by studies of Telitchev et al. [1, 2] and Sierakowski et al. [3], who investigated the impact response of electrified carbon fiber polymer matrix composites and showed that impact resistance of composites can be improved by subjecting them to a DC electric current at the moment of impact. It was also noticed that Joule heating was one of the limitations of the DC current applications that can be eliminated by applying pulsed electric current of high magnitude and short duration. Furthermore, addition of CNT buckypapers to conventional carbon fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites was expected to increase the overall conductivity of such composites, and thus, responsiveness of the composites to the application of the electromagnetic fields. Specific research objectives addressed in this work include: (i) characterization of the directional electrical properties of carbon fiber polymer matrix composites with CNT buckypapers using four probe and two probe electrical resistance measurements;(ii) study of the response of these composites to the application of an electric current pulse of high magnitude and duration;(iii) study of the effects of addition of buckypapers on the impact performance of carbon fiber polymer matrix composites;(iv) study of the impact response of the electrified composites with buckypaper layers when an electric current pulse is applied simultaneously with impact load.
