In the context of robot grasping and manipulation, realistic simulation requires accurate modeling of contacts between bodies and, in a practical level, accurate simulation of touch sensors. This paper addresses the problem of simulating a tactile sensor considering soft contacts and full friction description. The developed model consists of a surface contact patch described by a mesh of contact elements. For each element, a full friction description is built considering stick-slip phenomena. The developed sensor model is implemented using OpenRAVE and used to perform typical tasks related to tactile sensors. The performance of the simulated sensor is then compared to a real one. It is also demonstrated how it can be integrated on the simulation of a complete robot grasping system.

Heuristic strategies are also applied to determine the process of the switch operations. These heuristic rules are gained from an experienced dispatcher of the control division of Taipower Company in Taiwan. Initially optically thick (with τ = 3⋅10 7 ) spherically symmetric outflow consisting of electron-positron pairs and photons is considered. We do not assume thermal equilibrium, and include the two-body processes that occur in such plasma: Möller and Bhabha scattering of pairs, Compton scattering, two-photon pair annihilation, two-photon pair production, together with their radiative three-body variants: bremsstrahlung, double Compton scattering, and three-photon pair annihilation, with their inverse processes. We solve numerically the relativistic Boltzmann equations in spherically symmetric case for distribution functions of pairs and photons. Three epochs are considered in details: a) the thermalization, which brings initially nonequilibrium plasma to thermal equilibrium; b) the self-accelerated expansion, which we find in agreement with previous hydrodynamic studies and c) decoupling of photons from the expanding electron-positron plasma. Photon spectra are computed, and appear to be non thermal near the peak of the luminosity. In particular, the low energy part of the spectrum contain more power with respect to the black body one.

One of the predominant features of the human species is the desire to understand and influence the environment and the ability to adapt to it. These features have led humans to create complex social structures. In this complex system it is crucial to control, by any entity, the vital parameters for their optimal functioning, becoming exponential when referring to complex entities such as organizations. Due to the organizations complexity it is important to assess at an early stage its performance. Therefore simulators have a fundamental role in Organizational Self-awareness and help to control the organization's vital parameters. Under the body of knowledge and principles of Organizational engineering, and other theoretical and practical knowledge, this study proposes to highlight the importance of using simulators: i) as a fundamental element of organizational self-awareness, ii) to identify the fundamental elements of an organizational simulator Meta-Model; iii) to identify the essential elements of a simulator developed to assist in the calculation of the number of flying hours per year, wire driver of the Portuguese Air Force planning.

Avalanche photodetectors (APDs) have been fabricated in ON Semiconductor's C5 process without any special process or fabrication steps. The electrical and optical characteristics of APDs, with varying active area and guard ring configurations, are reported in this paper. Also reported are the details and considerations that went into laying out the APDs. It was found that substrate current was negligible and nearly independent of the geometrical shape of the substrate tie-downs around the perimeter of the APD structures. The measured APD breakdown is approximately 14 V. The devices show optical gains in excess of 1,000 at photocurrents of 10 μA.

The current national and international scene is facing multiple crises. The one that stands out and greatly affects the organization are crises of an economic nature. Given this national and international situation, we are now living in a time of “rationalization of costs” where organizations still continue to nobly and effectively perform their missions, in spite of budget cuts. To accomplish it without the slightest fault, organizations must have the ability to adapt to reality and create mechanisms that help catching up. One of those mechanisms can be finding indicators that can assess the organization's effectiveness in a strategic way. The research described in this paper aims to develop and define a logical calculation to obtain the Global Organizational Effectiveness Index Subsystem (GOEIS), that is supported by a quantitative and qualitative scale (one number, one scale). The purpose of this “ organizational cockpit ” tool is to compare execution to planning, in some defined areas, to verify if the proposed objectives of the organization are being met and, therefore, to improve management and performance while increasing effectiveness and self-awareness.
