As a non-invasive angle closure glaucoma diagnosis procedure, Van Herick's slit-lamp Limbal Anterior Chamber Depth Estimation (LACDE) technique is preferably the current standard screening method preliminarily performed at hospitals and eye clinics. However, accuracy of depth estimation is very much dependent on the slit projection distance from the limbus (LD). This study investigated the relation and designed a parametric model to reduce the inconsistencies between results and improving the Van Herick's method accuracy. Additionally, two different types of classifiers such as Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree with addition of LD as a predictor were trained and tested for comparison with parametric model. In the end acquired results clearly showed the effectiveness of LD consideration in LACDE, which lead to improvement in the experimental results.

Generic experimental and methodical investigations were carried out aiming at the systematic elucidation of physico-chemical mechanisms and their influence on thermo-hydraulic processes, which can occur during the sump circulation operation after a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) in PWR. In such a case, borated coolant with dissolved zinc, formed by corrosion of zinc-coated containment installations, may teach core regions of higher temperature (hot spots). Experimental studies were done at semi-technical scale focused on the influence of such zinc-containing coolants on thermo-hydraulics at heating configurations similar to those inside the PWR core. The impact of physico-chemical mechanisms on thermo-fluid-dynamical behavior of coolant inside a 3-3 configuration of heating rods, which net as fuel rod simulators with spacer segments, was determined. As a test parameter, borated coolant with dissolved zinc was used with an initial fluid temperature in the range of 45...50°C. The initial boric acid concentration in the experiments is based on the accident scenario in German PWR. In the ease of a ***. emergency cooling water (containing 2,500 ppm boron) from two refueling water storage tanks is injected into the primary cooling circuit during LOCA. During heat-up of zinc-containing coolant in a circuit, an increasing turbidity of the coolant fluid caused by forming colloids was observed first. This was followed by the formation of solid corrosion products consisting of zinc borates (identified by means of Raman spectroscopy [2]) In dependence of the temperatures of fluid and heatable surfaces, the solids showed various attributes concerning their mobilization potential, their density and their ability to form deposit layers Deposits occurred at the rod surfaces as well as at the spacer segments. The development of production and increasing usage of light electric vehicles such as electric bicycles and electric scooters entails development of batteries, battery chargers and fast charging algorithms. Batteries with different nominal electrical characteristics and production technologies are currently in use. Among them, lithium-iron batteries are increasingly being used. The differences in basic characteristics of batteries and standardization issues require fast identification of various battery types and adapting of charging algorithms according to nominal current, voltage, capacity and state of charge. This paper describes a method for determining the nominal current for unknown LiFePO4 battery connected to the stationary filling station for charging electric bicycles. A prerequisite for determination of the rated current is identification of current-voltage curve at the moment of connection and identification of the number of cells. The algorithm for determining these parameters is given in the first part of the paper. The second part deals with determination of the nominal current for LiFePO4 battery based on current-voltage response to the selected battery charging algorithm. © 2014 MIPRO.

In this paper, we present a model to automatically generate efficient transportation networks given a simulated urban environment with predefined population distributions and other physical constraints. Based on the empirical analysis of different topological structures of networks, we found that that the efficiency of transportation networks heavily depends on the layout of the stations. The model uses the genetic algorithm to optimize the spatial distribution of stations. Then, the Minimum Spanning Tree is constructed upon which extra network routes are built to minimize average travel time within the constraint of a network length. Experimental studies of a simulated Beijing subway system showed that our model can generate a network that is 14% more efficient than the current subway system based on the Beijing population distribution and geography. This study can be extended to other transportation systems designs, and other communication networks.

Latencies and delays play an important role in temporally precise robot control. During dynamic tasks in particular, a robot has to account for inherent delays to reach manipulated objects in time. The different types of occurring delays are typically convoluted and thereby hard to measure and separate. In this paper, we present a data-driven methodology for separating and modelling inherent delays during robot control. We show how both actuation and response delays can be modelled using modern machine learning methods. The resulting models can be used to predict the delays as well as the uncertainty of the prediction. Experiments on two widely used robot platforms show significant actuation and response delays in standard control loops. Predictive models can, therefore, be used to reason about expected delays and improve temporal accuracy during control. The approach can easily be used on different robot platforms.

Target tracking is one of the most important applications for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). It is usually assumed that the knowledge of the sensor nodes' position is known precisely. However, practically nodes are randomly deployed without prior knowledge about their own positions. In this situation, simultaneous localization and tracking (SLAT) is necessary and is receiving more and more research interest during the last few years. In this paper, several popular and practical filtering techniques are reviewed and compared for the problem of SLAT, including extended Kalman filtering (EKF), unscented Kalman filtering (UKF), and interactive multiple model (IMM). Simulation examples are included to demonstrate the superiority and shortcoming of each method. Results show that compared with other methods, IMM based on UKFs has better accuracy in both localization and tracking, as well as higher robustness.

Unpredictable power outages in NAND flashbased Solid State Drives (SSDs) may cause system failure or reliability problems. Capacitors are widely adopted as the interim power supplier when power interruption happens. However, since the energy provided by backup capacitors is limited, and the capacitance of a capacitor will gradually degrade with time, it is imperative to improve the efficiency and reliability of the backup process for SSDs with capacitors. This paper presents a novel backup scheme called SmartBackupfor MLC NAND flash-based SSDs with backup capacitors. In SmartBackup, by exploiting the feature of the discharge process of capacitors, all available SSD channels are fully utilized and dynamically adjusted based on the available voltage, so data can be efficiently stored in a reliable manner. Moreover, in SmartBackup, to write data in a time/energyefficient manner with better reliability, we adopt a fast and reliable programming strategy by only writing LSB (Least Significant Bit) pages in MLC NAND flash. To the best of our acknowledge, this is the first work to jointly utilize the property of the multi-page architecture of MLC NAND flash and the discharge characteristic of capacitors to improvethe efficiency and reliability of the backup process in SSDswith backup capacitors. The experimental results show thatSmartBackup can effectively accelerate the backup processand improve the reliability.

In this paper, the problem of H_∞ group consensus is addressed for networks of agents modeled by single-integrator with model uncertainty and external disturbance. The first part of the work is to show that the group consensus with desired H_∞ performance can be achieved under some sufficient conditions that are established in terms of the structure and strength of the couplings among agents. Then given the observation that the theoretical values of the coupling strengths are usually much larger than expected in practical situations, the second part of the work is concerned with developing an adaptation law to tackle such coupling strength problem.

Fault detection is a task of major importance in industry nowadays, since that it can considerably reduce the risk of accidents involving human lives, in addition to production and, consequently, financial losses. Therefore, fault detection systems have been largely studied in the past few years, resulting in many different methods and approaches to solve such problem. This paper presents a detailed study on fault detection on industrial processes based on the recently introduced eccentricity and typicality data analytics (TEDA) approach. TEDA is a recursive and non-parametric method, firstly proposed to the general problem of anomaly detection on data streams. It is based on the measures of data density and proximity from each read data point to the analyzed data set. TEDA is an online autonomous learning algorithm that does not require a priori knowledge about the process, is completely free of user- and problem-defined parameters, requires very low computational effort and, thus, is very suitable for real-time applications. The results further presented were generated by the application of TEDA to a pilot plant for industrial process. © 2015 IEEE.
