Histopathological oral images are one of the popular methodologies to diagnose oral squamous cell carcinoma. Computerized diagnostic systems need to be developed in order to process huge number of histopathological oral images for each subject and helping the clinician in classifying the oral images as either normal class or oral squamous cell carcinoma class. This research work uses deep transfer learning approaches namely MobileNetV3, InceptionV2, and EfficientNetB3 for extracting the features from histopathological oral images. Spotted Hyena Optimizer is used as feature transform for improving classification accuracy. Two dense layers are used for classifying the transformed features. 2784 & 3632 number of histopathological oral images are considered in this study under the two classes as normal and oral squamous cell carcinoma respectively. With the proposed spotted Hyena Optimizer, the maximum accuracy attained is 93% for the features extracted through InceptionV2 model. Relatively, the highest accuracy attained is 89% if the optimizer is not used for the features extracted through MobileNetV3 model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Drones have become more popular in recent years and this technology has dramatically advanced. Drones are starting to become essential tools in many operations such as surveillance, delivery, and more. A communication system is an essential challenge in drones that determines the drone’s capabilities of guiding, positioning, controlling, and transmission of information remotely. This paper introduces the current drone Radio Frequency (RF) communication technologies by specifying and explaining their features. These technologies represent IoT devices, Satellites, Global System for Mobile (GSM), Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), Remote control, Bluetooth, WiFi, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Furthermore, a comparison of ability in working in various environments is provided between the RF communication systems such as urban areas, remote areas, sea, and high altitude. It is found that each RF communication system is useful for a different scenario. The Internet of Things (IoT) revolutionizes smart city domains such as healthcare, transportation, industry, and education. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is gaining prominence, particularly in smart hospitals and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). The vast volume of data generated by IoMT devices should be analyzed in real-time for health surveillance, prognosis, and prediction of diseases. Current approaches relying on Cloud computing to provide the necessary computing and storage capabilities do not scale for these latency-sensitive applications. Edge computing emerges as a solution by bringing cloud services closer to IoMT devices. This paper introduces SmartEdge, an AI-powered smart healthcare end-to-end integrated edge and cloud computing system for diabetes prediction. This work addresses latency concerns and demonstrates the efficacy of edge resources in healthcare applications within an end-to-end system. The system leverages various risk factors for diabetes prediction. We propose an Edge and Cloud-enabled framework to deploy the proposed diabetes prediction models on various configurations using edge nodes and main cloud servers. Performance metrics are evaluated using, latency, accuracy, and response time. By using ensemble machine learning voting algorithms we can improve the prediction accuracy by 5% versus a single model prediction. © 2024 IEEE.

Hard hearing and deaf people are communicating with other people using the sign language. This is the only way of communication of such people to convey Since this is the only means by which these individuals can communicate, it is imperative that others be able to understand their language. Sign language recognition by computer begins with the acquisition of sign gestures and ends with recognition and conversion to text or voice. Static and dynamic are the two ways of sign gestures used. This study aims at focusing on the dynamic gesture recognition and the steps for recognizing sign language are discussed. The collected data are preprocessed and feature are extracted for classification. Finally the results are all investigated and developed for single user. © 2023 IEEE.

Intelligent vehicle tracking and detection are crucial tasks in the realm of highway ***,vehicles come in a range of sizes,which is challenging to detect,affecting the traffic monitoring system’s overall *** learning is considered to be an efficient method for object detection in vision-based *** this paper,we proposed a vision-based vehicle detection and tracking system based on a You Look Only Once version 5(YOLOv5)detector combined with a segmentation *** model consists of six *** the first step,all the extracted traffic sequence images are subjected to pre-processing to remove noise and enhance the contrast level of the *** pre-processed images are segmented by labelling each pixel to extract the uniform regions to aid the detection phase.A single-stage detector YOLOv5 is used to detect and locate vehicles in *** detection was exposed to Speeded Up Robust Feature(SURF)feature extraction to track multiple *** on this,a unique number is assigned to each vehicle to easily locate them in the succeeding image frames by extracting them using the feature-matching ***,we implemented a Kalman filter to track multiple *** the end,the vehicle path is estimated by using the centroid points of the rectangular bounding box predicted by the tracking *** experimental results and comparison reveal that our proposed vehicle detection and tracking system outperformed other state-of-the-art *** proposed implemented system provided 94.1%detection precision for Roundabout and 96.1%detection precision for Vehicle Aerial Imaging from Drone(VAID)datasets,respectively.

Monkeypox, a rare but potentially fatal viral disease, poses a significant public health challenge due to its potential for outbreaks and complications. Detecting monkeypox lesions early and accurately is vital to effectively manage and control the disease. This study introduces a novel method for classifying monkeypox lesions, employing data augmentation methods and a framework based on an ensemble of three transfer learning models called "SkinMarkNet". The dataset used in this research consists of skin lesion images collected from the Kaggle data repository, encompassing diverse demographics and lesion characteristics. This research uses image data augmentation techniques to tackle the scarcity of annotated data. This augmentation enriches the training dataset, thereby improving the model’s ability to perform effectively. Moreover, the novelty of this research work lies in the usage of three popular transfer learning models(Inception, Xception, and ResNet) for feature extraction and ensemble learning. The SkinMarkNet achieves promising results showing an accuracy of 90.615% for monkeypox lesion classification, outperforming traditional machine learning and deep learning methods utilized in recent research works. In addition, thorough comparative analysis is done with machine learning models and contemporary approaches to validate the efficacy of the proposed method. Overall, the findings underscore the potential of leveraging advanced deep learning architectures and data augmentation strategies for improving monkeypox lesion classification, thereby facilitating early diagnosis and intervention in clinical settings and public health surveillance efforts. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Feature selection is a cornerstone in advancing the accuracy and efficiency of predictive models, particularly in nuanced domains like socio-economic analysis. This study explores nine distinct feature selection methods, utilizing a heart disease dataset as a representative model for complex socio-economic systems. Our findings identified four universally recognized features as critical across all selection methods. However, the divergence in significance attributed to other features by different methods underscores the inherent variability in selection techniques. When the top four features were incorporated into twelve classification models, a noticeable surge in predictive accuracy was observed, emphasizing their foundational role in enhancing model outcomes. The variations among methods stress the need for a methodical and discerning approach to feature selection, especially in data-rich socio-economic landscapes. As we venture further into an era defined by data-driven decision-making, rigour and precision in feature selection become indispensable. Future research should extend this approach to broader datasets, ensuring the robustness and adaptability of our findings. © The author(s) 2025.

Cluster analysis can be perceived as a problem of grouping data points according to their mutual similarity. Clustering quality largely depends on choosing an effective distance metric, especially when dealing with mixed data that contains both numerical and categorical features. This study introduces a Weighted Combined distance metric using Gower and sqrt-cosine distances to improve clustering quality for mixed data. By combining two individual distance metrics with weights, this unique technique generates an overall similarity score that can improve the clustering quality. Experiments have demonstrated that the Weighted Combined distance metric can yield superior clustering quality compared to individual distance metrics. These findings highlight the potential of this proposed method to effectively cluster mixed data and overcome challenges associated with mixed data clustering.

Determining the best shortest path between locations in intelligent transportation systems is crucial but challenging. Traditional approaches, which assume fixed travel times, fall short of accurately reflecting dynamic factors such as weather, time, and day. This paper introduces a novel two-stage approach that integrates deep learning and ant colony optimization to address this limitation. Firstly, deep learning is employed to predict travel times, incorporating weather conditions as input for improved accuracy. Secondly, an ant colony optimization algorithm is utilized to identify the shortest route based on the predicted travel times. We evaluated the proposed approach using the New York City taxi benchmark dataset and observed superior performance compared to current state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2023 ACM.

Brain networks typically exhibit characteristic synchronization patterns where several synchronized clusters coexist. On the other hand, neurological disorders are considered to be related to pathological synchronization such as excessive synchronization of large populations of neurons. Motivated by these phenomena, this paper presents two approaches to control the cluster synchronization of Kuramoto oscillators. One is based on the use of pacemakers to the clusters, and the other is based on feeding back the mean phases to the clusters. We first show conditions on the pacemaker weights and the feedback gains for the network to achieve cluster synchronization. Then, we propose a method to find optimal feedback gains through convex optimization. A numerical example demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2024 IEEE.
