The simplest multiplierless decimation filter is the cascaded-integrator-comb (CIC) filter. However, the magnitude response of this filter has a high passband droop, which is not tolerable in many applications. The droop can be reduced by the filter called CIC compensator. In this paper, we present a method for the design of finite-impulse-response CIC compensators whose coefficients are expressed as the sums of powers of two (SPT). The method is based on the minimax error criterion. To obtain the SPT coefficients, we use a global optimization technique which is based on the interval analysis. The proposed compensators are multiplierless and result in wide compensation bands. Therefore, they are suitable for application in software radio receivers operating with low decimation factors.

Virtual machine (VM) based state machine approaches, i.e. VM replication, provide high availability without source code modifications, unfortunately, existing VM replication approaches suffer from excessive replication overheads. On the other hand, machine state replication is an overly strong (and therefore less efficient) requirement for high availability in the networked client-server system. In this paper, we propose a generic and highly efficient high availability solution through output continuity. Output continuity considers a backup server as a valid replica as long as the responses generated so far are the same between the backup and primary servers, the server state is propagated from the primary server to the backup server if and only if the previous outputs from the backup and primary servers are different.

In a virtualized data center, survivability can be enhanced by creating redundant Virtual Machines (VMs) as backup for VMs such that after VM or server failures, affected services can be quickly switched over to backup VMs. To enable flexible and efficient resource management, we propose to use a service-aware approach in which multiple correlated VMs and their backups are grouped together to form a Survivable Virtual Infrastructure (SVI) for a service or a tenant. A fundamental problem in such a system is to determine how to map each SVI to a physical data center network such that operational costs are minimized subject to the constraints that each VM's resource requirements are met and bandwidth demands between VMs can be guaranteed before and after failures. This problem can be naturally divided into two sub-problems: VM Placement(VMP) and Virtual Link Mapping (VLM). We present a general optimization framework for this mapping problem. Then we present an efficient algorithm for the VMP sub problem as well as a polynomial-time algorithm that optimally solves the VLM sub problem, which can be used as subroutines in the framework. We also present an effective heuristic algorithm that jointly solves the two sub problems. It has been shown by extensive simulation results based on the real VM data traces collected from the green data center at Syracuse University that compared with the First Fit Descending (FFD) and single shortest path based baseline algorithm, both our VMP+VLM algorithm and joint algorithm significantly reduce the reserved bandwidth, and yield comparable results in terms of the number of active servers.

Two proposals are presented in this study in an attempt to solve the problem of network selection, which are based on fuzzy logic techniques and methods of decision making. The first proposal uses a combination of the fuzzy method with two MADM (Multiple Attribute Decision Making) methods, the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and the GRA (Grey Relational Analysis), whereas the latter uses only the fuzzy logic technique. The two are compared with each other and with a third proposal, which uses a combination of AHP method along with a cost function. The results show that the two proposals presented in this paper are more efficient to sort and select the best access network compared to the third one.

Majority are ROVs underwater vehicles with relatively slow dynamics virtually providing a ROV pilot extra time to perform other tasks, such as inspections and arm operation. However, with many tasks performed simultaneously with flying the relevant information is typically dispersed on a number of screens overloading the pilot's visual channel. Therefore, mishaps are likely to occur. To improve pilots’ perception of its surroundings and to unload their visual channel, a new method called AD AR (Audio Augmented Reality) which combines the concept of Augmented Reality with virtual audio-video user interface, is proposed. In this paper, the feasibility of proposed method used as an aiding tool for navigation is investigated. All experiments are performed on the state-of-the-art, realistic ROV simulator developed by Mobile & Marine Robotics Research Centre, ECE department, University of Limerick, Ireland.

The research of metamaterial is one of most important global activity that promises to change the lives in many different ways. Flexibly controlling the properties of metamaterials by tunable designs makes metamaterials more colorful and thus enables a family of new electromagnetic devices. In this paper, the use of ferrites on design of tunable metamaterials has been reviewed. Owing to the novel properties of ferrites, including broadband negative permeability and tunability of permeability, a great many researchers have focused on investigating ferrites based metamaterials and the relevant applications. This paper reviews the design, theoretical analysis, numerical and experimental demonstrations, and the potential applications of the ferrite based metamaterials.
