In this paper, a Lagrangian relaxation approach to the problem of minimization of the total weighted tardiness is presented. The approach can be used both to solve the original problem as well as to obtain a high-quality lower bound for the branch-and-bound method. The problem was further decomposed into upper and lower problems. For the upper problem, an approach using a local-search metaheuristic is proposed instead of a subgradient method from the literature. Several variants of both methods are then implemented and compared through a numerical example using OR library problem instances. The results prove the viability of the metaheuristic approach as with little calibration it is able to match or outperform a refined subgradient method. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Calculating the most reliable maximum flow(MRMF)from the edge cache node to the requesting node can provide an important reference for selecting the best edge cache node in a content delivery network(CDN).However,SDBA,as the current state-of-the-art MRMF algorithm,is too complex to meet real-time computing *** paper proposes a set of MRMF algorithms:NWCD(Negative Weight Community Deletion),SCPDAT(Single-Cycle Preference Deletion Approximation algorithm with Time constraint)and SCPDAP(Single-Cycle Preference Deletion Approximation algorithm with Probability constraint).NWCD draws on the“flow-shifting”algorithm of minimum cost and maximum flow,and further defines the concept of negative weight *** algorithm continuously deletes the negative weight communities,which can increase reliability while keeping the flow constant in the residual *** is proven that when all negative weight communities are deleted,the corresponding maximum flow is the *** tries to approach the optimal solution to the greatest extent possible within the limited time,while SCPDAP tries to reach the probability threshold in the shortest amount of *** of these adopt the strategy of first deleting single-cycle communities(which contribute more to the reliability with lower time cost).Experiments show that,compared with SDBA,NWCD combined with the probabilistic pruning achieves an order of magnitude improvement in time cost,while SCPDAT and SCPDAP demonstrate better time performance and increased applicability.

High-performance and Multi-functional control of Transformerless Single-phase Smart Inverter for Grid-connected PV System

Highly reliable and flexible control is required for distributed generation(DG) to efficiently connect to the *** inverters play a key role in the control and integration of DG into the power grid and provide advanced functionalities. In this paper, an energy-based single-phase voltage-source smart inverter(SPV-SSI) of 5 k VA is designed and analyzed in detail. SPV-SSI is capable of supplying the power to local load and the utility load up to the rated capacity of the inverter, injecting the power into the grid, storing the energy in lead-acid battery bank, controlling the voltage at the point of common coupling(PCC) during voltage sags or faults, and making decisions on real-time pricing information obtained from the utility grid through advanced metering. The complete design of smart inverter in dq frame, bi-directional DC-DC buck-boost converter, IEEE standard 1547 based islanding and recloser, and static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) functionalities is presented in this paper. Moreover, adaptive controllers, i. e., fuzzy proportional-integral(F-PI) controller and fuzzy-sliding mode controller(F-SMC) are designed. The performances of F-PI controller and F-SMC are superior, stable, and robust compared with those of conventionally tuned PI controllers for voltage control loop(islanded mode) and current control loop(grid-connected mode).

The friction behaviour of ZnO nanowires on natural graphite(NG)and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG)substrates was tested in ambient conditions by use of optical microscopy based *** on the step-free and waviness-free NG substrate exhibit a diameter-independent nominal frictional shear stress of 0.48 MPa,and this provides a benchmark for studying how the surface topography of graphite influences nanowire *** on the HOPG substrate present a significant diameter-dependent frictional shear stress,increasing from 0.25 to 2.78 MPa with the decrease of nanowire diameter from 485 to 142 *** waviness of HOPG has a limited effect on the nanowire friction,as a nanowire can fully conform to the *** surface steps on the HOPG can significantly enhance the nanowire friction and lead to a much higher frictional shear stress than that on NG due to mechanical blocking and the presence of a Schwoebel barrier at step *** surface steps,however,can also generate small wedge-shaped gaps between a nanowire and substrate,and thus reduce the nanowire *** the decrease in nanowire diameter,the capacity for the nanowire to better conform to the substrate reduces the length of the wedge-shaped gaps,leading to the observed increase in nanowire *** results have improved our understanding of the unique friction behaviour of *** an improved understanding is expected to benefit the design and operation of nanowire-friction-based devices,including bio-inspired fibrillar adhesives,soft grippers,rotary nanomotors,and triboelectric nanogenerators.

Over recent years, deep convolutional neural networks have advanced the field of face recognition in both verification and identification applications. In this paper, we present ShadowNets, a highly efficient and compact face recognition network. We employed multiple shadow blocks in a cascading manner where the output of each shadow block is given as the input to the next shadow block. By integrating the advantages of Focal Modulation Blocks, Shadow Block and Ghost Modules, our proposed ShadowNets achieves superior face recognition performance, optimized specifically for edge devices. This network architecture not only minimizes computational costs and storage needs but also delivers high accuracy, making it suitable for deployment in edge environments. Our extensive experiments on challenging benchmark face datasets showcase the outstanding performance by achieving accuracy 98.85% on LFW, 84.37% on CFP-FP, and 91.23% on AgeDB-30 which validates the effectiveness of ShadowNets over state-of-the-art lightweight and deep face recognition models. © 2024 IEEE.

Anfis-Stsmc controller Design to Enhance Stability Of Self-Balancing Two-Wheeled Electric Scooter on Uneven Terrain

In this work, we design an effective controller for a Segway that can tackle uneven terrain disturbances and parameter variations. Self-balancing is essential for maintaining stability during movement, while effective steering control ensures accurate and responsive direction changes over rough terrain. The study begins with a comprehensive analysis of the interaction between the Segway's mechanical, electrical, and control systems under varying ground conditions. A mathematical model is developed to capture the Segway's behavior in these different scenarios. To enhance control performance, a Super Twisting Sliding Mode controller (STSMC) is designed to manage both balancing and steering. The parameters of the STSMC are optimized using Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO). These optimized parameters are then utilized to train an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) for pitch angle control and a Neural Network (NN) for yaw angle control. The ANFIS-STSMC achieves a settling time of 0.1802 seconds and a rise time of 0.2538 seconds for balance angle control, with no steady-state error. For yaw angle control, the NN controller, trained using STSMC data, achieves a settling time of 0.2994 seconds, a rise time of 0.3495 seconds, and minimal overshoot (0.16\% for balance angle and 0.05\% for direction angle). Performance testing in MATLAB/Simulink demonstrates that the combination of ANFIS-STSMC and NN controllers significantly improves the Segway's stability and steering capability, particularly on uneven terrain. © 2024, The Authors.
