Enhancing Collaborative and Geometric Multi-Kernel Learning Using Deep Neural Network

This research proposes a method called enhanced collaborative andgeometric multi-kernel learning (E-CGMKL) that can enhance the CGMKLalgorithm which deals with multi-class classification problems with non-lineardata distributions. CGMKL combines multiple kernel learning with softmaxfunction using the framework of multi empirical kernel learning (MEKL) inwhich empirical kernel mapping (EKM) provides explicit feature constructionin the high dimensional kernel space. CGMKL ensures the consistent outputof samples across kernel spaces and minimizes the within-class distance tohighlight geometric features of multiple classes. However, the kernels constructed by CGMKL do not have any explicit relationship among them andtry to construct high dimensional feature representations independently fromeach other. This could be disadvantageous for learning on datasets with complex hidden structures. To overcome this limitation, E-CGMKL constructskernel spaces from hidden layers of trained deep neural networks (DNN).Due to the nature of the DNN architecture, these kernel spaces not onlyprovide multiple feature representations but also inherit the compositionalhierarchy of the hidden layers, which might be beneficial for enhancing thepredictive performance of the CGMKL algorithm on complex data withnatural hierarchical structures, for example, image data. Furthermore, ourproposed scheme handles image data by constructing kernel spaces from aconvolutional neural network (CNN). Considering the effectiveness of CNNarchitecture on image data, these kernel spaces provide a major advantageover the CGMKL algorithm which does not exploit the CNN architecture forconstructing kernel spaces from image data. Additionally, outputs of hiddenlayers directly provide features for kernel spaces and unlike CGMKL, do notrequire an approximate MEKL framework. Modern fault diagnosis faces an imbalance issue at both the sample and feature levels. A common approach is to combine balancing strategies with feature selection algorithms to address this problem. However, this may result in feature subsets that cannot accurately represent the true data distribution. This paper proposes an imbalanced fault diagnosis method called RPLFS-MOBPSO, which combines region purity (RP) with local feature selection to achieve class balance implicitly by partitioning local regions. RP is used as a new objective in the optimization process to achieve accurate fault detection. The adaptive reference point method from Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III is employed to maintain a diverse and evenly distributed external archive. On both the simulated Tennessee Eastma (TE) benchmark datasets and the real bearing experimental bench datasets, the proposed method achieves the best results compared to two LFS methods and four imbalanced ensemble algorithms based on different balancing strategies. Edge computing is regarded as an extension of cloud computing that brings computing and storage resources to the network edge. For some Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications such as supply-chain supervision and collaboration, Internet of Vehicles, real-time video analysis and so forth, users should be authenticated before visiting the geographically distributed edge servers. Limited by the considerable latency between the cloud and edge servers, and the limited capacity of edge servers, it is infeasible to copy the authentication method from cloud servers when users are authenticated in edge servers. In view of this challenge, this paper proposes a novel token-based authentication scheme, named EdgeAuth, that enables fast edge user authentication through collaboration among cloud servers and edge servers. Under the EdgeAuth scheme, edge servers can rapidly verify the credentials of users who have been authenticated by the cloud server. EdgeAuth can also protect users from a series of authentication attacks, for example, the replay attack, DoS attack and man-in-the-middle attack. The results of experiments conducted on a simulated edge computing environment validate the usefulness of EdgeAuth through a comparison in latency and throughput against two baseline schemes. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

In-class teaching not only concentrates on lecture content delivery but also on maintaining strong mutuality between lecturer-students and student-student. Online lectures are gaining popularity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the learning-teaching process has become ineffective because existing video conferencing solutions are not intended for academic purposes. This research was conducted to identify the pain points of online education and develop an enhanced software solution. A user survey confirmed that an isolated environment tends to diminish attentiveness during online lectures. Also, it is difficult for teachers to observe the attentiveness of all the students. As a solution, student attentiveness was measured using their facial expressions and collected data shown to lecturers through a virtual student behavioural environment. The physical separation causes students to feel isolated during lectures, which can negatively affect their academic development and social and psychological development. The developed application also provides a virtual group study environment as a feature. According to the results gathered in the user acceptance testing phase, it was found that the attention detection feature helps students keep their attention at a significant level. Further, 9 out of 10 teachers who participated in the testing acknowledged that the simulated student behavioural view could provide a more immersive experience. 71% of students preferred the new collaborative virtual environment, and students further elaborated that the virtual environment was more likely the physical group studies. 72% of students mentioned that the collaborative group study tool helped eliminate isolation during group studies. © 2022 IEEE.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) take vital role in intelligent transportation systems, but they face challenges due to dynamic network topology, impacting communication efficiency, especially with increasing active nodes. Security and privacy concerns are paramount, necessitating authentication to ensure only legitimate vehicles access the network. Secure vehicular clustering offers a solution, yet the number of clusters affects network dependability and efficiency. To tackle this, we present a secure clustering mechanism using Bat optimization algorithm, mimicking echolocation behavior to optimize clusters. We introduce an authentication technique for cluster heads to admit approved members, enhancing vehicular authentication. Simulations using MATLAB evaluate our approach, showing improved performance in end-to-end delay, overhead, and cluster head count compared to similar methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays, the demand for language learning is increasing because people need to communicate with other people belonging to different regions for their business deals, study, etc. During language learning, a lot of pronunciation mistakes occur due to unfamiliarity with a new language and differences in accent. In this paper, we perform speech mistakes analysis using deep feature-based clustering. We proposed two novel methods for speech analysis, one to deal with phonemic errors (confusing phonemes) and the other to deal with the prosodic errors (partially changed pronunciation variation of phones). For accurate and efficient language learning, it is important to learn both phonemic as well as prosodic error corrections. In our first method, we perform speech analysis by combining deep CNN features and clustering algorithm to detect the phonemic errors. We classify the phonemes using K-nearest neighbor, Naïve Bayes, and support vector machine (SVM). We perform experiments on the six most frequently mispronounced confusing pairs of Arabic to handle phonemic errors and achieve an accuracy of 94%. In our second method, we proposed the unsupervised phone variation model (PVM) to detect prosodic errors. In PVM, each phone is extended to represent the different types of pronunciation variation of that phone with different proficiency levels. We use an Arabic dataset of 28 individual phones for speech analysis and provide feedback based on the variation of each phone and achieves an accuracy of 97%. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Differential privacy offers a promising solution to balance data utility and user privacy. This paper compares two prominent differential privacy tools-PyDP and IBM's diffprivlib-that are applied to a synthetic dataset with medical attributes. We evaluate these tools based on their effectiveness in maintaining data privacy while preserving the statistical integrity of the data. Our results reveal that PyDP provides synthetic data that closely matches real-world data, making it appropriate for tasks requiring accuracy while striking a better balance between data utility and privacy. However, IBM's diffprivlib is more suitable for privacy-critical applications due to its stronger privacy guarantees, but at the cost of increased noise and decreased data utility. This paper contributes to the practical understanding of implementing differential privacy in machine learning and software applications and enhances the tools available for developers in sensitive data environments. © 2025 IEEE.

The rapid evolution of wireless communication technologies and the increasing demand for multi-functional systems have led to the emergence of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) as a key enabler for future 6G networks. Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) have recently garnered significant attention for their ability to enhance signal coverage and improve system efficiency. This paper investigates a STAR-RIS-assisted ISAC system designed to secure communication for multiple legitimate users (LUs) while safeguarding against multiple eavesdroppers (Eves). By jointly optimizing the base station (BS) transmit beamforming, STAR-RIS transmission and reflection coefficients, and receive filters, the proposed framework aims to maximize the long-term average secrecy rate for all LUs. Constraints are imposed to ensure minimum echo signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for sensing and meet the achievable rate requirements of LUs. To address the inherent complexity of this non-convex problem, two deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms are proposed. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves significant improvements in secrecy rate compared to conventional RIS setups. This work provides a scalable and efficient approach for secure multi-user ISAC systems, making it highly relevant for future 6G networks, smart cities, and IoT applications. © 2025 The Authors.

The concept of Digital Twin has been widely used by researchers to represent physical entities in computer-generated reality in the metaverse. In this research, a novel concept of 'Mobile Twin' is coined. Mobile Twin serves as a replica of a mobile device in the virtual environment enabling communication. The purpose of introducing Mobile Twin in the metaverse is to bring mobility and benefits similar to tangible mobile devices while eliminating the need for individual energy sources, storage limitations, resource usage, and efficiency. The true benefits of a mobile twin can be achieved with an architecture where computing nodes are decentralized, data processing is near the network's edge with faster response times and reduced latency. For this purpose, the mobile twin-based applications of metaverse are built over edge computing-based network architecture. This idea introduced the aspect of 'Revolutionary Ultra-low latency (RULL)' in the metaverse. © 2024 IEEE.
