Lack of hearing ability hinders deaf children from mastering grammar in language studies. Unfortunately, such software targeting Malay language is limited. This paper attempts to generate new approach in handling such software. These include detection of defects when switching into local languages, date format and accommodating the local laws. The acceptance of international software for local use goes beyond just these aspects. For this purpose, software that supports the multi-languages is evaluated. The main research question of this paper: The lack of cultural dimensions in localisation testing of assistive technology decreases the effectiveness of localisation testing of the localised software. On the account of cultural dimensions, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions will be experimented to study which cultural dimensions are most suited for such software. From our empirical results, the failure rate of the testing is higher compared to incorporating culture dimensions. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes an architecture-based dynamic adaptation model and framework for adaptive software systems. The framework provides for a reusable adaptation infrastructure and uses a layered architecture pattern. It also provides separation of concerns from the system's software architecture and supports internal state information checkpointing and restoration. Any dynamic software adaptation process, whether instigated internally or externally, makes runtime changes only to affected components. The dynamic adaptation model separates adaptation-impacted parts of a system from those that need not be concerned with the dynamic adaptation.

Many concern metrics have been defined to quantify properties of crosscutting concerns, such as scattering, tangling, and dedication. To quantify these properties, concern metrics directly rely on the projection (assignment) of concerns into source code. Although concern identification tools have emerged over the last years, they are still rarely used in practice to support concern projection and, therefore, it is a task often performed manually. This means that the results of concern metrics are likely to be influenced by how accurately programmers assign concerns to code elements. Even though concern assignment is an important and long-standing problem in software engineering, its impact on accurate measures of crosscutting concerns has never been studied and quantified. This paper presents a series of 5 controlled experiments to quantify and analyse the impact of concern projection on crosscutting concern measures. A set of 80 participants from 4 different institutions projected 10 concern instances into the source code of two software systems. We analyse the accuracy of concern projections independently made by developers, and their impact on a set of 12 concern metrics. Our results suggest that: (i) programmers are conservative when projecting crosscutting concerns, (ii) all concern metrics suffer with such conservative behaviour, and (iii) fine-grained tangling measures are more sensitive to different concern projections than coarse-grained scattering metrics.

The ground states of some many-body quantum systems can serve as resource states for the one-way quantum computing model, achieving the full power of quantum computation. Such resource states are found, for example, in spin-52 and spin-32 systems. It is, of course, desirable to have a natural resource state in a spin-12, that is, qubit system. Here, we give a negative answer to this question for frustration-free systems with two-body interactions. In fact, it is shown to be impossible for any genuinely entangled qubit state to be a nondegenerate ground state of any two-body frustration-free Hamiltonian. What is more, we also prove that every spin-12 frustration-free Hamiltonian with two-body interaction always has a ground state that is a product of single- or two-qubit states. In other words, there cannot be any interesting entanglement features in the ground state of such a qubit Hamiltonian.

As interest in adopting Cloud computing for various applications is rapidly growing, it is important to understand how these applications and systems will perform when deployed on Clouds. Due to the scale and complexity of shared resources, it is often hard to analyze the performance of new scheduling and provisioning algorithms on actual Cloud test beds. Therefore, simulation tools are becoming more and more important in the evaluation of the Cloud computing model. Simulation tools allow researchers to rapidly evaluate the efficiency, performance and reliability of their new algorithms on a large heterogeneous Cloud infrastructure. However, current solutions lack either advanced application models such as message passing applications and workflows or scalable network model of data center. To fill this gap, we have extended a popular Cloud simulator (CloudSim) with a scalable network and generalized application model, which allows more accurate evaluation of scheduling and resource provisioning policies to optimize the performance of a Cloud infrastructure.

ABox abduction is an important aspect for abductive reasoning in Description Logics (DLs). It finds all minimal sets of ABox axioms that should be added to a background ontology to enforce entailment of a specified set of ABox axioms. As far as we know, by now there is only one ABox abduction method in expressive DLs computing abductive solutions with certain minimality. However, the method targets an ABox abduction problem that may have infinitely many abductive solutions and may not output an abductive solution in finite time. Hence, in this paper we propose a new ABox abduction problem which has only finitely many abductive solutions and also propose a novel method to solve it. The method reduces the original problem to an abduction problem in logic programming and solves it with Prolog engines. Experimental results show that the method is able to compute abductive solutions in benchmark OWL DL ontologies with large ABoxes. Several types of surveillance Systems are available in market, having different functions like security, life savings, and safe driving etc. Currently all available surveillance systems are based on fixed radio access technology. In our work, we evaluate the problems with fixed Radio Access Technology (RAT) based surveillance systems, and then propose a cognitive radio based surveillance system. Now a day's cognitive radio is a symbol of intelligent networks, and lot of work on these types of networks is going on in all over the world. During our tests on fixed RAT based surveillance system, we observe that the fixed RAT based surveillance system is not capable of providing, hundred percent network availability due to signal loss, power loss, hardware theft or due to natural disasters (earth quake, floods etc). We propose a new algorithm to introduce cognition in the existing system.

Context: Offshore software development outsourcing is a modern business strategy for developing high quality software at low cost. Objective: The objective of this research paper is to identify and analyse factors that are important in terms of the competitiveness of vendor organisations in attracting outsourcing projects. Method: We performed a systematic literature review (SLR) by applying our customised search strings which were derived from our research questions. We performed all the SLR steps, such as the protocol development, initial selection, final selection, quality assessment, data extraction and data synthesis. Results: We have identified factors such as cost-saving, skilled human resource, appropriate infrastructure, quality of product and services, efficient outsourcing relationships management, and an organisation's track record of successful projects which are generally considered important by the outsourcing clients. Our results indicate that appropriate infrastructure, cost-saving, and skilled human resource are common in three continents, namely Asia, North America and Europe. We identified appropriate infrastructure, cost-saving, and quality of products and services as being common in three types of organisations (small, medium and large). We have also identified four factors-appropriate infrastructure, cost-saving, quality of products and services, and skilled human resource as being common in the two decades (1990-1999 and 2000-mid 2008). Conclusions: Cost-saving should not be considered as the driving factor in the selection process of software development outsourcing vendors. Vendors should rather address other factors in order to compete in the OSDO business, such as skilled human resource, appropriate infrastructure and quality of products and services. © 2010 Elsevier Inc. Cloud Federation is a recent paradigm that helps Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers to overcome resource limitation during spikes in demand for Virtual Machines (VMs) by outsourcing requests to other federation members. IaaS providers also have the option of terminating spot VMs, i.e, cheaper VMs that can be canceled to free resources for more profitable VM requests. By both approaches, providers can expect to reject less profitable requests. For IaaS providers, pricing and profit are two important factors, in addition to maintaining a high Quality of Service (QoS) and utilization of their resources to remain in the business. For this, a clear understanding of the usage pattern, types of requests, and infrastructure costs are necessary while making decisions to terminate spot VMs, outsourcing or contributing to the federation. In this paper, we propose policies that help in the decision-making process to increase resources utilization and profit. Simulation results indicate that the proposed policies enhance the profit, utilization, and QoS (smaller number of rejected VM requests) in a Cloud federation environment.

Cloud computing paradigm allows on-demand access to computing and storages services over the Internet. To solve the complexity of application deployment in Cloud infrastructure, virtual appliances, pre-configured, ready-to-run applications are emerging as a breakthrough technology. However, an automated approach for deploying network of appliances is required to guarantee minimum deployment cost, low latency, and high reliability. In this paper, we propose and compare two different deployment approaches: Forward-checking-based backtracking (FCBB) and genetic-based. They take into account Quality of Service (QoS) criteria such as reliability, data communication cost, and latency between multiple Clouds to choose the most appropriate combination of virtual machines and appliances. We evaluate our approach using a real case study and different request types. Experimental results show both algorithms reach near optimal solution. Further, we investigate effects of factors such as latency requirements, and data communication between appliances on the performance of the algorithms and placement of appliances across multiple Clouds.
