This paper describes a robust controller design procedure based on H ∞ control theory for translational mechatronic system, trolley with pendulum. The goal is to achieve fast trolley positioning with minimization of pendulum swinging. This system, trolley with pendulum, represents gantry crane. Minimization of the load transfer time and load swing angle in the crane applications are conflicting control demands and thus proper control action is required. However, friction effect is unavoidable in mechanical parts of the system and significantly influences the control system performances. In this paper H∞ theory based crane controller is designed in order to minimize friction effect. H∞ controller has been tested and compared with the pole placement controller on a laboratory gantry crane model.

Inverters with pulse width modulation are used for connecting DC and AC networks, e.g. in uninterrupted power supply systems, AC electromotor drives, for powering induction furnaces, in audio technique. The output voltage spectrum of inverters with unipolar pulse width modulation in the case of triangular carrier signal contains a harmonic with frequency equal to the frequency of the modulating signal. It also contains harmonics with frequencies equal to the sum of frequency of the modulating signal and a multiple of double the frequency of the carrier signal. Analysis of the inverter's output voltage harmonics was performed in time domain via development of the inverter's output voltage waveform into a sum of periodical waveforms and by calculating spectrums of each individual part. The dependency of the amplitudes and frequency spectra on the wave forms of the carrier signal and modulating signal was demonstrated.

Classical decision tree model is one of the classical machine learning models for its simplicity and effectiveness in applications. However, compared to the DT model, probability estimation trees (PETs) give a better estimation on class probability. In order to get a good probability estimation, we usually need large trees which are not desirable with respect to model transparency. Linguistic decision tree (LDT) is a PET model based on label semantics. Fuzzy labels are used for building the tree and each branch is associated with a probability distribution over classes. If there is no overlap between neighboring fuzzy labels, these fuzzy labels then become discrete labels and a LDT with discrete labels becomes a special case of the PET model. In this paper, two hybrid models by combining the naive Bayes classifier and PETs are proposed in order to build a model with good performance without losing too much transparency. The first model uses naive Bayes estimation given a PET, and the second model uses a set of small-sized PETs as estimators by assuming the independence between these trees. Empirical studies on discrete and fuzzy labels show that the first model outperforms the PET model at shallow depth, and the second model is equivalent to the naive Bayes and PET.

This paper investigates the state-constrained controller design of a hypersonic flight vehicle(HFV) based on an asymmetric barrier Lyapunov function(ABLF). The robust adaptive back-stepping controller with integral terms is applied for the HFV longitudinal dynamics. Considering the asymmetric angle of attack(AOA) constraint caused by the unique structure and scramjet, the controller is modified by constructing an ABLF, where the asymmetric constraint on AOA tracking error is introduced. Combined with the constraint on virtual control, the AOA is restricted to a predefined asymmetric interval. The system stability and the AOA constraint are guaranteed via Lyapunov analysis. Simulation results verify that the AOA can be kept in the given asymmetric interval while the altitude reference signal is tracked.

A semi-reference image quality assessment metric based on similarity measurement for synthesized virtual viewpoint image (VVI) in free-viewpoint television system (FFV) is proposed in this paper. The key point of the proposed metric is taking resemblant information between VVI and its neighbor view images for quality assessment to make our metric to be extended to multi-semi-reference image quality assessment easily. The proposed metric first extracts impact factors from image features, then combines an image synthesis technique and similarity functions, in which, disparity information are taken into account for registering the resemblant regions. Experiments are divided into three phases. Phase I is to verify the validation of the proposed metric by taking impaired images and original reference into account. The experimental results show the agreement between evaluation scores and bio-characteristic of human visual system. Phase II shows the accordance with Phase I by taking neighbor view as reference. The proposed metric can be taken as a full reference one to evaluate the image quality even though the original reference is absent. Phase III is then performed to evaluate the quality of WI. Evaluation scores in the experimental results are able to evaluate the quality of VVI.
