Inventory management plays a critical role to track inventory levels, orders, and sales of the retailing business. Effective inventory management is a capability necessary to lead in the global marketplace. In the current retailing market, a huge amount of data regarding stocked items in inventory is generated and collected every day. Due to the increasing volume of transaction data and their correlated relations, it is often a non-trivial task to efficiently manage stocked goods, yet it is imperative to explore the underlying dependencies of the inventory items and give insights into implementing intelligent management systems. However, existing inventory management systems rely on statistical analysis of the historical inventory data, and have a limited capability of intelligent management. For example, they usually do not have the ability to forecast item demand and detect anomalous patterns of item inventory transactions. There is little work reported in implementing intelligent inventory management solutions to reveal hidden relations with integrated data-driven analysis. In this paper, we present an intelligent system, called iMiner, to facilitate managing enormous inventory data. We utilize distributed computing resources to process the huge volume of inventory data and incorporate the latest advances in data mining technologies. iMiner provides comprehensive support for conducting many inventory management tasks, such as forecasting inventory, detecting anomalous items, and analyzing inventory aging.

This paper is concerned with the state estimation problem of BAM neural networks with mixed time delays. By constructing a suitable Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF), a new criterion is obtained so that the BAM neural networks error system is asymptotically stable. A simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper addresses the leader-follower flocking problem with a moving leader for networked Lagrange systems with parametric uncertainties under a proximity graph. Here a group of followers move cohesively with the moving leader to maintain connectivity and avoid collisions for all time and also eventually achieve velocity matching. In the proximity graph, the neighbor relationship is defined according to the relative distance between each pair of agents. Each follower is able to obtain information from only the neighbors in its proximity, involving only local interaction. We consider two cases: (i) the leader moves with a constant velocity, and (ii) the leader moves with a varying velocity. In the first case, a distributed continuous adaptive control algorithm accounting for unknown parameters is proposed in combination with a distributed continuous estimator for each follower. In the second case, a distributed discontinuous adaptive control algorithm and estimator are proposed. Then the algorithm is extended to be fully distributed with the introduction of gain adaptation laws. In all proposed algorithms, only one-hop neighbors' information (e.g., the relative position and velocity measurements between the neighbors and the absolute position and velocity measurements) is required, and flocking is achieved as long as the connectivity and collision avoidance are ensured at the initial time and the control gains are designed properly. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Differential Search is an optimization approach that simulates the Brownian like random walk movement of migration organisms. Its inner workings relay on Random Number Generators (RNG) to emulate the probability of the natural driven process and therefore, the properties and performance of the RNG used has an influence on the overall algorithm performance. This study focuses on assessing this influence and on the manner in which the best suited RNG must be selected in order to achieve the optimal results for different types of problems. The results showed that depending on the properties of the problem, different RNGs provide the best solutions. However, as the number of function evaluation rises in report to the problem dimensionality, the influence on the RNG becomes smaller.

The paper analyses vehicle dynamics during operation (drive wheel load). Parameters for the vehicle model were calculated from the vehicle force equations. To validate the model, speed and torque measurements on the conventional car (Fiat Punto) were carried out as well as a comparison between the measured and the simulated values. The electric motor, inverter and batteries were dimensioned on the basis of the vehicle traction characteristics. Models of the internal combustion engine (ICE), gear box and electrical drive (a motor with an inverter and batteries) were made. A comparison of hybrid and conventional drives and fuel consumption were made.

The paper describes procedures for analyzing and design of the ship electric power network regarding total harmonic distortion. It addresses and provides an overview of the sources of higher harmonic components in the ship power network. The paper also analyses the impact of the certain parameters of the ship power network components to total harmonic distortion in order to enable the designing engineer to optimize the ship network. Several methods for reducing total harmonic distortion in ship electric power networks are also covered within the paper.

In order to achieve optimal control of an interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) used in wind power plants, parameters of the generator need to be identified or estimated. Furthermore, since mechanically mounted speed sensors can cause plant failures, sensorless control is preferred and generator rotor speed needs to be estimated. Model reference based methods are one of the most used methods for combined stator resistance and rotor speed estimation in permanent magnet synchronous motors. In this paper an estimation of stator resistance and rotor speed using model reference adaptive system (MRAS) is presented. The MRAS consists of the reference and adjustable model where the reference model is used to determine the required states (d and q current components) and the adaptive model provides the estimated values of the states. Simulations were conducted for different rotor speed values and expected stator resistance variation due to temperature increase under load. Simulation results show that the MRAS model gives satisfactory estimates of rotor speed and stator resistance.

This paper aims to study the cooling of a solid body. An analytical analysis of a solid body cooling in different regimes is presented, such as a simple first order exponential model, a modified exponential model, a generalized exponential model and the so-called regular temperature regime. The analysis also includes the influence of the dynamically changing relaxation time and we also present the solution of the nonlinear heat equation.
