Trading with reactive power will soon become a very important part of electric energy trade. However, while trading, voltage regulation in portable and distribution systems must not be neglected. In order to balance the technical and economic aspects it is necessary to be familiar with the electric power system, the source of electric energy most of all, meaning the synchronous generator and its possibilities. These possibilities are shown in the synchronous generator P-Q diagram. We nowadays use static P-Q diagrams, provided by generator producers, which in most cases refer only to generators. This article presents a dynamic user P-Q diagram containing changeable parameters and showing a real availability of a synchronous aggregate. © 2011 IEEE.

The steel-making and continuous casting system (SCCS) is the bottleneck in the iron and steel production, SCCS often involve various uncertainties such as the emergency customer orders, inaccurate estimate of ingredient components, the unpredictable machine breakdown or the inaccurate estimate of processing time. How to consider such uncertainties to build a better schedule in a limited time by a computationally efficient manner is becoming critical for the production of iron and steel. The stochastic dynamic programming method is adopt to solve the obtained subproblems which are relaxed by Lagrangian relaxation multipliers, a good dual solution is selected by using "ordinal optimization," and the actual schedule is dynamically constructed based on the dual solution and the realization of random processing requirements. The method has been tested by using practical data from the Shanghai Bashan steel plant in China and could get near optimal solutions in a limited time;the stochastic processing requirements are effectively handled for the production. © 2011 IFAC.

The Tensor Product (TP) model transformation is a recently proposed technique for transformation of a given Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) state-space model into polytopic model form, namely, to parameter varying convex combination of Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems. The main advantage of the TP model transformation is that it is executable in a relatively short time and the Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI)-based control design frameworks can immediately be applied to the resulting polytopic models. In this paper, such control approach of nonlinear systems is applied to the control of rotary pendulum gantry. Pendulum in hanging position represents simplified model of the real industry crane application. On the other hand, inverted pendulum is a classic problem in dynamics and control theory and widely used as a benchmark for testing control algorithms. In order to reach upright position, self erecting technique is employed. LMI control algorithm obtained for both positions is merged using self erecting control algorithm and tested in real experimental setup.

Computational tool for modeling and simulation Matlab/Simulink is one of the program packages for simulation of electrical behaviour of power electronics circuits. Besides all its advantages, primarily its efficient numerical core, its shortcomings include graphically complex block schemes used in Simulink to create the simulation models. An additional drawback of this method of creating simulation models is knowledge of the basics of Matlab/Simulink software package. This paper describes an application developed in the Matlab/GUI environment that represents an interface between the user and the prepared base of simulation models of typical circuits of electronic converters. The user selects converter circuits from the base that are represented by usual electrical schemes. Element model parameters in the simulated schemes can be changed as well as conditions for progress of transient simulation. Upon completion of the simulation the simulated waveforms are shown in the same window as the electrical scheme. The user does not need to know how to work with the simulation program;one only needs to concentrate on the analysis of operation of the simulated converter circuits. © 2011 MIPRO.

The main aim of biometric-based identification systems is to automatically recognize individuals based on their physiological and/or behavioural characteristics such as fingerprint, face, hand-geometry, among others. These systems offer several advantages over traditional forms of identity protection. However, there are still some important aspects that need to be addressed in these systems. The main questions are concerned with the security of biometric authentication systems since it is important to ensure the integrity and public acceptance of these systems. In order to avoid the problems arising from compromised biometric templates, the concept of cancellable biometrics has recently been introduced. The concept is to transform a biometric trait into a new representation for enrolment and matching. Although cancellable biometrics were proposed to solve privacy concerns, the concept raises new issues, since they make the authentication problem more complex and difficult to solve. Thus, more effective authentication structures are needed to perform these tasks. In this paper, we investigate the use of ensemble systems in cancellable biometrics, using fingerprint-based identification to illustrate the possible benefits accruing. In order to increase the effectiveness of the proposed ensemble systems, three feature selection methods will be used to distribute the attributes among the individual classifiers of an ensemble. The main aim of this paper is to analyse the performance of such well-established structures on transformed biometric data to determine whether they have a positive effect on the performance of this complex and difficult task.

In this paper a new type of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers is designed to make the closed-loop linear system asymptotically stable and strictly quadratic dissipative. First, we give a state-space realization for such PID controller and then derive the state-space realization of closed-loop system. Second, a necessary and sufficient condition ensuring the closed-loop system to be asymptotically stable and quadratic dissipative is derived in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Based on this result, the explicit expression for the PID controller gains is presented. Finally, an illustrative example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design approach.

A dual-axis photovoltaic positioning system has a primary task of directing a PV module towards the optimal light source when placed on electric vehicle. The idea of a positioning loop requires proper information on the PV module direction in order to get more irradiance, i.e. more energy. The assumption of a proper luminance sensor distribution is described in this paper. With this kind of distribution every angle position is described by a unique combination of luminance sensor readings. This paper compares expected readings and measured readings of a real model.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is an effective way to improve urban traffic status. But, because of its complexity, it is difficult in its operation management and scheduling. In this article, based on ACP approach, Parallel BRT System is constructed, which can detect real-time passenger flow at stations, traffic flow at stations and intersections and queuing length of vehicles on the road; to provide short-term passenger and traffic saturation prediction in order to timely arrange transportation management and relieve congestion; to assess, improve and optimize the emergency management of holidays, events, accidents and other emergencies; to improve the quality of real-time scheduling functions based on the measurement results detected from videos, and so on. This system has been applied in Guangzhou Zhongshan Avenue BRT, which was applied for BRT's monitoring, warning, forecasting, emergency management, real-time scheduling and other needs, to guarantee BRT's smooth, safety, efficiency and reliability.

In literature, there are several methods to measure similarity between concepts in structures like simple ontologies, concept hierarchies, taxonomies, etc. These measures are used to search for similar concepts. In the Semantic Web, such structures are commonly used to classify data which opens the possibility of reasoning upon them and helps in conceptual searches. Besides that, the Locality Sensitive Hash (LSH) functions are used to store similar data close to each other in an index space. Each family of LSH functions is tied to a specific similarity function. In this paper we propose a method for combining the idea of conceptual similarity with LSH functions. This method permits the data classified as similar concepts be indexed close to each other respecting some metric. The main idea is to facilitate the conceptual searching for data semantically classified. This paper evaluates several methods of measuring the similarity between concepts in a simple ontology and discusses how they can be applied to an LSH function.

In this paper, we study the global robust output regulation problem for a class of multivariable nonlinear systems. The problem is first converted into a stabilization problem of an augmented system composed of the original plant and an internal model. The augmented system is a two-input system containing both dynamic uncertainty and time-varying static uncertainty. By decomposing the two-input control problem into two single-input control problems, we can solve the problem via a recursive approach utilizing the changing supply function technique. Finally, the theoretical result is applied to the speed tracking control and load torque disturbance rejection problem of a surface-mounted PM synchronous motor.
