Background: In insulin therapy, the blood glucose level is constrained from below by the hypoglycemic threshold, that is, the blood glucose level must remain above this threshold. It has been shown that this constraint fundamentally limits the ability to lower the maxima of the blood glucose level predicted by many mathematical models of glucose metabolism. However, it is desirable to minimize hyperglycemia as well. Hence, a desirable insulin input is one that minimizes the maximum glucose concentration while causing it to remain above the hypoglycemic, or higher, threshold. It has been shown that this input, which we call optimal, is characterized by glucose profiles for which either each maximum of the glucose concentration is followed by a minimum or each minimum is followed by a maximum. Methods: We discuss the implication of this inherent control limitation for clinical practice and test, through simulation, the robustness of the optimal input to a number of different model and parameter uncertainties. We further develop guidelines on how to design an optimal insulin input that is robust to such uncertainties. Results: The optimal input is in general not robust to uncertainties. However, a number of strategies may be used to ensure the blood glucose level remains above the hypoglycemic threshold and the maximum blood glucose level achieved is less than that achieved by standard therapy. Conclusions: An understanding of the limitations on the controllability of the blood glucose level is important for future treatment improvements and the development of artificial pancreas systems. © 2018 Diabetes Technology Society.

In this paper some preliminary results of network anomaly detection for resource-constrained systems have been presented. All described algorithms are embedded into a three-tier system application. The presented solution is a response to nowadays trends in computer/network security domain that indicate gradual shifting from signature-based anomaly detection typically based on some selected statistical measures toward systems that are based on behavioural analysis of computer systems and/or networks. The presented system requirements, explain relevant terminology as well as we include some selected results and their analysis. The solution is potentially destined for very resource-constrained systems (IoT specifically), all tests were carried out in an example network to additionally analyse their effect of the presented approach on the computer resources.

A Dynamic Information Transfer and Feedback Model for Reuse-oriented Redesign of Used Mechanical Equipment

The intricate coupling relationship among the used parts make the reuse-oriented redesign process very complex, leading to the incompatible optimization between the used parts and used mechanical equipment. To this end, a dynamic information transfer and feedback method is proposed. In this method, the structure coupling model is established to characterize the relationship of parts. Remanufacturing cost, energy consumption and material consumption are taken as the redesign objectives. In accordance with these objectives and its constraints, a dynamic information transfer and feedback model (DITF) is adopted to achieve collaborative optimization between used mechanical equipment and used parts. An adaptive Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (A-TLBO) algorithm is used to solve this model. Finally, a case in point is that a used machine tool (model C6132) is adopted to validate feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Leishmaniasis is an important public health problem worldwide, with a broad spectrum of clinical and epidemiological features partly associated with the diversity and complex life cycle of the Leishmania parasites. This study analyzes genomic data from 205 Leishmania (Viannia) samples, including 65 newly sequenced clinical isolates. It also provides chromosome-level genome assemblies for 10 isolates representing different species and populations. The observed distribution of Leishmania genomic diversity across the sampling locations suggests rapid adaptation to different ecosystems. The phylogenomic analysis provides new hypotheses challenging the current delimitation of species. Pangenomic analysis of high-quality assemblies shows consistent copy number variation between species for different gene families. Larger and more diverse amastin gene families were observed in the assembled genomes compared to previous reports based on the analysis of short-read data. This work provides genomic resources and helpful information regarding central problems in the biology of Leishmania spp, including species diversification, transmission dynamics, and the evolution of virulence mechanisms.

In clinical medicine, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most important tools for diagnosis, triage, prognosis, and treatment planning. However, MRI suffers from an inherent slow data acquisition process because data is collected sequentially in k-space. In recent years, most MRI reconstruction methods proposed in the literature focus on holistic image reconstruction rather than enhancing the edge information. This work steps aside this general trend by elaborating on the enhancement of edge information. Specifically, we introduce a novel parallel imaging coupled dual discriminator generative adversarial network (PIDD-GAN) for fast multi-channel MRI reconstruction by incorporating multi-view information. The dual discriminator design aims to improve the edge information in MRI reconstruction. One discriminator is used for holistic image reconstruction, whereas the other one is responsible for enhancing edge information. An improved U-Net with local and global residual learning is proposed for the generator. Frequency channel attention blocks (FCA Blocks) are embedded in the generator for incorporating attention mechanisms. Content loss is introduced to train the generator for better reconstruction quality. We performed comprehensive experiments on Calgary-Campinas public brain MR dataset and compared our method with state-of-the-art MRI reconstruction methods. Ablation studies of residual learning were conducted on the MICCAI13 dataset to validate the proposed modules. Results show that our PIDD-GAN provides high-quality reconstructed MR images, with well-preserved edge information. The time of single-image reconstruction is below 5ms, which meets the demand of faster processing. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

We address the problem of attack detection and attack correction for multi-input multi-output discrete-time linear time-invariant systems under sensor attacks. More specifically, we consider the situation that a system with known input is corrupted by additive adversarial attack signals on some of the system's outputs. In this paper, we use system representation in a behavioural approach, which allows for natural and compact statements regarding linear system security. We extend our earlier results for systems with zero inputs to systems with non-zero inputs. We assume that these non-zero inputs are known. © 2018

Thanks to the automation of diagnostic processes based on the EEG signal and the creation of classifications of various attention disorders based on the analysis of the EEG signals (as diagnostic markers) - it may be possible to refer patients to appropriate specialists and provide them with appropriate neurofeedback-based treatment. The marker method proposed by the authors of the hereof paper is based on analysis of the EEG, which signal can be widely use in screening diagnostics. The proposed solution in this work may be used for neurofeedback or Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI). In this paper the authors presented implementation of markers for the purpose of analysis of some memory disorders and short-time attention disorder. The study is still in progress. Presented results have initial-study character.

Most existing DTN routing algorithms can't show efficient network performance. Prophet is a routing protocol widely used for DTNs. The delivery predictability of active nodes will obviously reduce with the same speed as less active nodes. In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Probability Prediction Routing (APPR) approach, which can dynamically adjust the aging factor based on the active degree of nodes. Leveraging the APPR approach, the delivery predictability of each node can be reduced in different speed if the node does not encounter the other node. Furthermore, when two nodes encounter, the forward decision depends on the distance between each node to the destination node, if the delivery predictabilities of encountered nodes are similar. Compared with the traditional Prophet, simulation results demonstrate the proposed APPR approach can significantly improve successful delivery ratio, reduce overhead ratio and the average latency.

As 3D scanning devices and depth sensors advance, dynamic point clouds have attracted increasing attention as a format for 3D objects in motion, with applications in various fields such as tele-presence, navigation for autonomous driving and heritage reconstruction. Nevertheless, the tremendous amount of data in dynamic point clouds significantly burden transmission and storage. We thus propose a complete compression framework for attributes of 3D dynamic point clouds, focusing on optimal inter-coding. Firstly, we derive the optimal inter-prediction and predictive transform coding assuming the Gaussian Markov Random Field model for attributes of dynamic point clouds, where the optimal predictive transform proves to be the Generalized Graph Fourier Transform (GGFT). Secondly, we propose refined motion estimation via efficient registration prior to inter-prediction, which searches the temporal correspondence between adjacent frames of point clouds. Finally, we construct a complete framework based on the optimal inter-coding and our previously proposed intra-coding, where we determine the optimal coding mode from rate-distortion optimization with the proposed offline-trained λ-Q model. Experimental results show that we achieve 13:4% bitrate reduction on average and up to 25:8% over the state-of-the-art Region-adaptive Hierarchical Transform method. Copyright © 2019, The Authors.
