Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) is a light-sensitive protein which has a proton-pump function, and is found in the cell membrane of Halobacterium salinarum inhabiting the salt lake. Optical excitation of bR at an electrode-electrolyte interface generates differential photocurrents while an incident light is turned on and off. This unique functional response is similar to that seen in retinal neurons. This paper describes the fabrication and evaluation of the dip-coated bR thin films, photocurrent characteristics, and biomimetic artificial retinas with the bR thin films.

Membrane computing is an emergent branch of natural computing, which is inspired by the structure and the functioning of living cells, as well as the organization of cells in tissues, organs, and other higher order structures. Tissue P systems are a class of the most investigated computing mod- els in the framework of membrane computing, especially in the aspect of efficiency. To generate an exponential resource in a polynomial time, cell separation is incorporated into such systems, thus obtaining so called tissue P systems with cell separation. In this work, we exploit the computational efficiency of this model and construct a uniform family of such tissue P systems for solving the independent set problem, a well-known NP-complete problem, by which an efficient so- lution can be obtained in polynomial time.

This paper focuses on interpolation-based path planning algorithms for mobile robot that use the occupancy grid map of the environment. Such an algorithm produces the path close to optimal solution in continuous search space, but has computational burden. We discuss on using heuristics to improve efficiency of the E * algorithm, as the interpolation-based path planning algorithm, with a trade-off of generating less optimal paths. We compare obtained paths with the almost optimal solution in continuous search space and also with the path obtained by the D * algorithm, which is a representative of the classical graph search algorithms applied on the occupancy grid map. All used algorithms are verified both by simulation and experimentally on a Pioneer 3DX mobile robot equipped with a laser range finder.

In traditional Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs), the nodes can take advantage of intermittent contact opportunities to forward messages. However, in noncooperative DTNs, the nodes may be selfish and reluctant to cooperate with each other in message forwarding. Therefore, it is necessary to motivate the nodes to cooperate with each other in such DTNs. The previously proposed incentive mechanisms have obvious limitations such as the security vulnerability. To resolve such kind of drawbacks, in this paper we propose two credit-based rewarding schemes, called earliest path singular rewarding scheme and earliest path cumulative rewarding scheme respectively, to ensure the nodes truthfully forward the messages. The proposed rewarding schemes are incentive compatible. They also ensure that the payment for each delivered message is upper bounded. Furthermore, the proposed rewarding schemes can prevent selfish nodes from having malicious behaviors. Simulations based on the real trace are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed rewarding schemes.

In this paper, the discrete-time antilinear systems are investigated. Firstly, a closed-form expression for the state response of discrete-time antilinear systems is established. Secondly, the concepts of reachability and controllability are proposed for discrete-time antilinear systems. With the closed-form expression of the state reponse as tools, anti-Gram criteria for reachability are given. In addition, a matrix rank criteria for reachability and controllability is given for time-invariant antilinear systems. In addition, an anti-Lyapnov equation approach is given to check the stability of the time-invariant antilinear systems.
