The social network analysis (SNA) is an approach that can be applied as a complement to other analysis (such as statistical) in order to obtain other valuable information. The social network analysis has been used in several initiatives showing that it is an approach that can contribute in building the semantic web. Within the project Technologies Applied to Electronics Teaching (TAEE) there are biannual conferences (it has been organized since 1996) and have accumulated a significant amount of data resulting from the conferences held. All of this information constitutes a data source that should be exploited and that can provide meaningful information. In this document we describe, how to social network analysis has been used on data sources generated by user communities, in order to obtain some semantic artifacts, like ontologies. Also describes how to was applied the social network analysis and its metrics on the information generated in the TAEE congresses to answer a set of questions (What are the relationships and the level of cohesion of the different organizations (at the level of Spain and across continents) involved in TAEE? How have evolutioned the thematics covered in the conference?, What are the new ontological additions in technology over the years?, and How have evolutioned the thematics in the research and studies related to teaching electronics?) formulated by the organizers of the congresses and that through other approaches would have been a large task and complicated. The answers to the questions can provide us important information about the behavior and characteristics of the elements present in TAEE conferences, furthermore being an element for making decisions on future initiatives with the same style of TAEE. © 2010 IEEE.

Node localization becomes an important issue in the wireless sensor network as its broad applications in environment monitoring, emergency rescue and battlefield surveillance, etc. Basically, the DV-Hop localization mechanism can work well with the assistance of beacon nodes that have the capability of self-positioning. However, if the network is invaded by a wormhole attack, the attacker can tunnel the packets via the wormhole link to cause severe impacts on the DV-Hop localization process. The distance-vector propagation phase during the DV-Hop localization even aggravates the positioning result, compared to the localization schemes without wormhole attacks. In this paper, we analyze the impacts of wormhole attack on DV-Hop localization scheme. Based on the basic DV-Hop localization process, we propose a label-based secure localization scheme to defend against the wormhole attack. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed secure localization scheme is capable of detecting the wormhole attack and resisting its adverse impacts with a high probability.

Aiming at moving aspect of heterogeneous wireless network, The paper puts forward a heterogeneous network mobile management mechanism- Identifiers Split Memory, Substitution Transmission Scheme ISMSTS, introduces the basic theory and the protocol process of ISMSTS detailed, and makes the performance analysis and the contrast with MIPv6 protocol. ISMSTS is the mobile management scheme based on the network, both of the position and switch management are accomplished by the network. It can satisfy the needs of the heterogeneous converged network mobile management mechanism on fast switching, extensible, controllable, safety and reducing of wireless link costs. Theoretical analysis shows that on the network layer the average switching lag time of network ISMSTS much less than MIPv6's, which can effectively support most real-time application. And the realization and verification of the prototype system further illustrates the feasibility and the effectiveness of the ISMSTS.

This work presents an automatic classification system for power quality disturbances based on specialized neural networks. The proposed system is capable to classify multiple disturbances, which is very important in some power systems scenarios. A system was designed and tested with synthetic signals generated by software and the global efficiency achieved was 98.9%. The system was also evaluated with real data achieving good results.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a common cardiovascular disease in the elderly, which causes high death rate and low cure rate. Therefore, the TCM diagnosis objectification is important. This paper proposes the Relative Associated Density (RAD) method to analyze the data set. RAD results of the symptoms to syndromes are used in performing feature selection, and the prediction results with different classification machines show significant improvements. Compared to other traditional feature selection methods, RAD provides higher Interpretability in the TCM field.

In a clinical context, dementia refers to a syndrome of acquired cognitive deterioration that can be associated with various potential stages of the disease. The two most common variations of this disease are Alzheimer type dementia and Vascular type dementia, although there are other forms known as mixed dementia. All of these forms can be associated with different patterns of anatomical affectation, different risk factors, multiple diagnostic characteristics and multiple profiles of neuropsychological tests, making the differential diagnosis of dementias (DDD) very complex. In this paper we propose new diagnostic tools based on a data fusion scheme using artificial neural networks and ensemble systems, which offer important advantages referring to other computational solutions. We have designed two HUMANNS based systems, with capacity of processing missing data. We explore their ability for DDD using a battery of cognitive and functional/instrumental neuropsychological tests. We carried out a comparative study between these systems and an clinical expert, reaching these systems a higher level of performance than the expert. Our proposal is a smart and effective complementary method to assist the diagnosis of dementia both in specialized care as well as in primary care centres. © 2010 IEEE.

Most experimental realizations of quantum key distribution are based on the Bennett-Brassard 1984 (the so-called BB84) protocol. In a typical optical implementation of this scheme, the sender uses an active source to produce the required BB84 signal states. While active state preparation of BB84 signals is a simple and elegant solution in principle, in practice passive state preparation might be desirable in some scenarios, for instance, in those experimental setups operating at high transmission rates. Passive schemes might also be more robust against side-channel attacks than active sources. Typical passive devices involve parametric down-conversion. In this paper, we show that both coherent light and practical single-photon sources are also suitable for passive generation of BB84 signal states. Our method does not require any externally driven element, but only linear optical components and photodetectors. In the case of coherent light, the resulting key rate is similar to the one delivered by an active source. When the sender uses practical single-photon sources, however, the distance covered by a passive transmitter might be longer than that of an active configuration.

Randić et al. proposed a significant graphical representation for DNA sequences, which is very compact and avoids loss of information. In this paper, we build a fast algorithm for this graphical representation with time complexity O(n 2 ), and find another important advantage in the representation: no degeneracy. Moreover, we propose a new method to do similarity analysis of DNA sequences based on the representation. The approach adopts four elements of covariance matrix as a descriptor, and is illustrated on the first exon of beta-globin genes from 11 different species.

In this paper, the robust finite-horizon filtering problem is investigated for a class of uncertain nonlinear discrete time-varying stochastic systems with multiple missing measurements and error variance constraints. The stochastic nonlinearities are described by statistical means which can cover several classes of well-studied nonlinearities. The measurement missing phenomenon is also considered. Sufficient conditions are derived for a finite-horizon filter to satisfy the estimation error variance constraints. These conditions are expressed in terms of the feasibility of a series of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs). An illustrative simulation example is given to show the the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
