Recognition of American sign language using modified deep residual CNN with modified canny edge segmentation

American Sign Language (ASL) recognition aims to recognize hand gestures, and it is a crucial solution to communicating between the deaf community and hearing people. However, existing sign language recognition algorithms still have some drawbacks, such as difficulty recognizing hand movements and low recognition accuracy for most sign language recognition. A Modified Convolutional Neural Network (MCNN) deep residual 101 classifier-based American Sign Language identification system has been developed to address this problem. There are three main parts presents in the method. The first part is pre-processing the images to remove the noise, enhance the contrast of the picture, adjust the contrast level and smoothen the picture using various filters. The second part is the segmentation, and it’s used to partition the image using a modified canny edge detection method by removing all weak edges present in the image. Finally, classification will be done using the Modified CNN deep residual 101 classifiers. By classifying the image, the American Sign Language is accurately identified. This process is conducted through images. The outcome shows that the suggested approach has a 0.97% accuracy and a 0.05% False Positive Rate. Other CNN architectures such as resNet 50 and resNet 18 reached 0.90% and 0.80% accuracy, respectively, which is lower than our proposed method. In addition, the resNet 101 classifier effectively recognizes the difficult hand gestures through the image data. It obtains high recognition accuracy for 36 signs is 0 to 9 numbers and a to z alphabets from American Sign Language. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

This paper jointly investigates user association (UA), mode selection (MS), and bandwidth allocation (BA) problems in a novel and practical next-generation cellular network where two modes of semantic communication (SemCom) and conventional bit communication (BitCom) coexist, namely hybrid semantic/bit communication network (HSB-Net). Concretely, we first identify a unified performance metric of message throughput for both SemCom and BitCom links. Next, we comprehensively develop a knowledge matching-aware two-stage tandem packet queuing model and theoretically derive the average packet loss ratio and queuing latency. Combined with several practical constraints, we then formulate a joint optimization problem for UA, MS, and BA to maximize the overall message throughput of HSB-Net. Afterward, we propose an optimal resource management strategy by employing a Lagrange primal-dual method and devising a preference list-based heuristic algorithm. Finally, numerical results validate the performance superiority of our proposed strategy compared with different benchmarks. © 2024 IEEE.

Functional dependencies (FDs) form a valuable ingredient for various data management tasks. However, existing methods can hardly discover practical and interpretable FDs, especially in large noisy real-life datasets. This paper studies the problem of discovering meaningful functional dependencies (FDms) that utilize support and error parameters to capture interesting dependencies in such datasets and proposes an efficient discovery algorithm called FDM?. In order to scale with large datasets, FDM ? employs an efficient sampling method with accuracy guarantees to capture the differences between tuple pairs and to quantify the connection between support/error of dependencies on samples and those on the entire dataset. Moreover, it adopts a clustering-based correlated attributes extraction to divide the exponentially large search space into multiple small sub-spaces and proposes an easy-first traversal strategy with covariance-based guidance that quickly detects candidate dependencies and validates them. Additionally, we prove a covariance lower bound as an additional pruning criterion to reduce the search space. Extensive experiments on real-life and synthetic datasets demonstrate that FDM ? is 14 times faster than existing discovery algorithms on average, up to 31 times, and scales to larger datasets with the least memory cost. © 2024 IEEE.

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce some approximation properties of a Kantorovich kind q-Bernstein operators related to B′ezier basis functions with shape parameterλ∈[−1,1].Firstly,we compute some basic results such as moments and central moments,and derive the Korovkin type approximation theorem for these ***,we estimate the order of convergence in terms of the usual modulus of continuity,for the functions belong to Lipschitz-type class and Peetre’s K-functional,***,with the aid of Maple software,we present the comparison of the convergence of these newly defined operators to the certain function with some graphical illustrations and error estimation table.

Road safety depends heavily on traffic signs, and as there are more vehicles on the road, the demand for precise traffic sign recognition systems rises. The development of machine-learning algorithms to predict and recognize traffic signs in real-time has been the main focus of research. An overview of the state of advancement in image analysis and classification for recognizing road signs is given in this article. It also goes through their benefits and drawbacks in various traffic situations. Managing various lighting and weather situations, the necessity for real-time processing, and future connection with autonomous driving systems are just a few of the difficulties that are highlighted in the paper. This study seeks to provide guidance to professionals working in the areas of autonomous driving, computer vision, and machine learning who recognize traffic signs. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, generative models with deep learning have a focus and give enormous success in various real-time experience domains. Deep learning (DL) is a subdivision of machine learning that is inspired by the structure and function of human brain activity, known as artificial neural networks. It is a data-driven technique that achieves the best accuracy while using a large number of input samples. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are a robust class of neural networks used for unsupervised learning under DL categories. GAN is one of the most influential architectures demonstrating remarkable success in generating high-quality data. The reusable feature learning process from a huge number of unlabelled data paves the way for research. This survey article discusses an overview of the GAN model, such as the original GAN, Conditional GANs, and resolution GANs, along with their specific adaptations for various tasks. Additionally, we examine the situations faced by Generative Adversarial Networks depending on various applications such as image and video generation, medical image analysis, text-to-image synthesis, agriculture, and creative industries such as music and art. This survey explores diverse applications of recently developed frameworks and benchmark datasets used for development, along with their architecture and metric evaluations.

Road cavities, often called potholes, pose a major problem for our transportation infrastructure, causing accidents, costly repairs, and traffic jamming. This study shows using a computer vision technique called You Only Look Once (YOLO) to find potholes on roads. YOLO is proficient and efficient for realtime object detection. The researchers want to see which version of YOLO is more effective in object analysis in pictures and videos. We'll be comparing YOLOv5, YOLOv7, and YOLOv8, thereby also setting up the system in Gazebo simulated environment. By carefully analyzing the results, we aim to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each YOLO version. This will help us see the most useful ones for finding potholes when managing and maintaining roads. © 2024 IEEE.

This study employs the User-Centered Design (UCD) methodology to develop a mobile health (mHealth) application (app) specifically tailored for Bangladeshi women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). GDM affects approximately 10% of pregnant women globally and around 35% within Bangladesh, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Despite its high prevalence, there is a significant lack of awareness and education about GDM in Bangladesh, compounded by language barriers that make existing digital solutions less accessible. The MatrikalinDiabetes mHealth app aims to overcome these barriers by providing comprehensive management and educational resources for GDM in the Bangla language, addressing both pre-pregnancy and post-pregnancy needs. To ensure the app meets the actual needs of potential users, personas were created based on a literature review, and a survey was conducted. This process informed the development of both a low-fidelity, paper-based prototype and a high-fidelity digital prototype. Key features of the MatrikalinDiabetes app include tracking of food and water intake, physical activity monitoring, reminders, GDM education, chat forums for community support, blood glucose level (BGL) monitoring, an SOS button for emergency contacts, and quizzes for user engagement. Preliminary feedback indicated that 53.8% of participants favored the integrated features and expressed willingness to use and recommend the app. The survey of the high-fidelity prototype yielded positive responses, with 57.9% of participants strongly agreeing and 42.1% agreeing that the features were beneficial. The user-friendly design of the high-fidelity prototype ensures intuitive interaction, aiding in health management, enhancing GDM understanding, and promoting a healthier lifestyle among pregnant women in Bangladesh. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

With the popularization of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) in surveillance, delivery services, environmental monitoring, and increasingly other operational aspects, besides the need to take off and land, efficient traffic management becomes integral for assuring and securing further development and exploitation. Most of the existing traffic management systems for UAVs depend on traditional rule-based algorithms or simpler machine learning techniques, such as DQN or PPO. However, these systems also have enormous challenges: dynamic environments, high-density traffic, and robust decision-making over unpredictable weather and network conditions. In addition, the above traditional models usually experience difficulties in balancing exploration and exploitation, leading to suboptimal routing and enlarged collision risks in complicated urban airspaces. These challenges have driven us to develop a new proposal: a UA V traffic management framework based on Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) combined with Instruction-Based Learning. In this approach, advanced learning for DDQN optimizes processes at decision-making points for UAVs. The model proposed herein, along with comprehensive simulations and quantitative analyses, demonstrated higher performance in terms of leadership and cumulative rewards while keeping lower training loss compared to the classical algorithms such as DQN, A3C, and PPO. At the same time, the DDQN model presented a better success rate (95%), as also reflected in the balanced precision-recall curve showing an area under the curve of 0.90, over others in the on-point prediction of UAVstate and safety margin of collision. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed DDQN-based framework significantly enhances UA V traffic management by optimizing energy consumption in complex airspaces and reducing the risk of collision. © 2025 IEEE.
