In the realm of modern transportation systems, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) play a pivotal role in enabling efficient communication among vehicles and infrastructure elements for enhanced road safety and traffic management. However, the inherent vulnerabilities in VANETs, such as privacy breaches and security threats, necessitate robust frameworks to mitigate risks and ensure secure data transmission. This paper presents a comprehensive architecture for Privacy-Enriched data Communication over VANETs using Software-Defined Network (SDN) assistance. The proposed framework integrates key components including vehicles, Roadside Units (RSUs), and SDN controllers to facilitate secure and privacy-aware communication. Vehicles act as data sources, employing pseudonyms and encryption mechanisms to protect user privacy. RSUs serve as access points, collecting and relaying data while enforcing access control policies. SDN controllers provide centralized management, dynamically allocating resources and enforcing privacy policies through encryption, pseudonymization, and access control mechanisms. Communication protocols such as IEEE 802.11p and LTE enable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication, while the OpenFlow protocol facilitates communication between SDN controllers and network devices. Additionally, trust management mechanisms evaluate the trustworthiness of network entities based on behavioral analysis, reliability metrics, and security considerations, ensuring the integrity and resilience of the network. By amalgamating SDN-based management with privacy enhancement mechanisms and trust management protocols, the proposed framework offers a robust solution for addressing privacy and security challenges in VANETs, thereby fostering safer and more secure transportation ecosystems. © 2024 IEEE.

Serious security and privacy problems have arisen as a result of significant advancements in the creation of deepfakes. Attackers can easily replace a person’s face with the target person’s face in an image using sophisticated Deep learning (DL) algorithms to spoof their identity. Deepfakes detection algorithms have been proposed in response to the growing concerns about the potential harm caused by deepfakes. However, a reliable deepfakes detector that can keep up with contemporary deepfakes creation techniques is required. In this work, we have proposed an end-to-end methodology for detecting manipulated visual content. We used multiple CNN models i.e., ResNet18, ResNet50, DenseNet65, DenseNet77, and DenseNet100 along with the SVM classifier to compute effective cues from the input facial faces to distinguish between actual and altered content. We have also applied the concept of transfer learning to solve the issue of model over-fitting and improve generalizability against different manipulation algorithms. A comparison study is carried out to evaluate the performance of several feature extractors. Through thorough experiments performed using the Deepfakes Detection Challenge dataset, our results demonstrated that DenseNet100 surpasses the other CNN models by better recognizing deepfakes. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Brain tumors are a serious health concern caused by the abnormal growth of cells in or around the brain. These tumors can either be benign or malignant. Few of the causes for Brain tumors are genetic mutations, exposure to radiation, or environmental factors. Early detection of brain tumors is essential for effective treatment and improved patient outcomes. To address this, a novel approach has been proposed for brain tumor detection using transfer learning with the VGG-16 convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. By leveraging the pre-trained VGG-16 model on the ImageNet dataset, which provides a broad range of data for learning and representing complex features of various objects, meaningful features can be extracted from MRI scans and differentiate between tumor and normal tissue accurately. This refined VGG-16 model can provide a more precise and reliable diagnosis, which is crucial for successful treatment. This research study demonstrates that the utilization of VGG-16 model for brain tumor diagnosis can provide an efficient and accurate method for identifying brain tumors. Moreover, this approach can be applied to develop automated systems to assist medical professionals in diagnosing and treating brain tumors more effectively.

In multi-site brain disease diagnosis studies, traditional centralized training methods necessitate sharing medical data, posing significant privacy risks. Federated learning (FL) offers a privacy-preserving solution by enabling global model training through aggregating locally trained models from multiple data centers without sharing raw data. However, current FL approaches rely on a server-based network topology, where central server failure disrupts training. Additionally, data heterogeneity across sites often slows convergence and reduces accuracy. To overcome these issues, we introduce a decentralized personalized federated learning collaborative aggregation network (pFedCAN). This framework has two core components: (1) separating local models into shared and personalized layers, and (2) forming a collaborative aggregation network via similarity detection in the shared layers. Specifically, each center trains its local model, then separates it into shared and personalized layers. The shared layer is exchanged with other centers, while the personalized layer remains local. data centers analyze similarities in received shared layers to build a collaborative network, where shared layers from similar centers are aggregated to refine the model. This approach flexibly adapts to varying levels of data heterogeneity, enhancing model training efficiency. Validation on public datasets, ABIDE I and ADHD, shows that the proposed method outperforms current leading techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

Wine quality prediction is essential for optimizing production and ensuring consumer satisfaction. This study introduces a novel Convoluted Deep Classification (CDC) approach for accurate wine quality assessment. Leveraging convolutional neural networks (CNNs), our method effectively extracts hierarchical features from diverse wine data. The process begins with dataset preprocessing, encompassing chemical properties and sensory attributes. Subsequently, a hierarchical CNN architecture is tailored to capture intricate features such as acidity levels and volatile compounds. Techniques like data augmentation and transfer learning are employed to bolster model generalization. Evaluation on a benchmark dataset demonstrates outstanding performance, achieving a remarkable accuracy of 97%. This surpasses traditional methods and baseline CNN architectures, affirming the efficacy of our approach. Additionally, interpretability analyses unveil the key features influencing wine quality predictions, providing invaluable insights for producers and connoisseurs alike. Our CDC framework offers a robust and interpretable solution for wine quality prediction, empowering stakeholders with actionable insights for production optimization and quality assurance in the wine industry. © 2024 IEEE.

Edge computing is regarded as an extension of cloud computing that brings computing and storage resources to the network edge. For some Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications such as supply-chain supervision and collaboration, Internet of Vehicles, real-time video analysis and so forth, users should be authenticated before visiting the geographically distributed edge servers. Limited by the considerable latency between the cloud and edge servers, and the limited capacity of edge servers, it is infeasible to copy the authentication method from cloud servers when users are authenticated in edge servers. In view of this challenge, this paper proposes a novel token-based authentication scheme, named EdgeAuth, that enables fast edge user authentication through collaboration among cloud servers and edge servers. Under the EdgeAuth scheme, edge servers can rapidly verify the credentials of users who have been authenticated by the cloud server. EdgeAuth can also protect users from a series of authentication attacks, for example, the replay attack, DoS attack and man-in-the-middle attack. The results of experiments conducted on a simulated edge computing environment validate the usefulness of EdgeAuth through a comparison in latency and throughput against two baseline schemes. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

The increasing integration of intelligent systems in metropolitan environments emphasizes the important role effective image and video processing performs in applications including the traffic management, the monitoring of safety, and the urban planning. When handling dynamic scenarios, that is, changes in traffic conditions, occlusions, and the need for real-time analysis, conventional signal processing methods sometimes fail. Strong and adaptable solutions able to manage both these complexity as well as others are thus much needed. This work intends to introduce a deep learning-based smart signal system designed to process real-time video feeds for uses connected to urban traffic and safety. The proposed system uses recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for temporal sequence comprehension; conversely, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are used for spatial data analysis. Two approaches used in order to improve the performance of the model are data augmentation and transfer learning, which increase the accuracy of decision-making using multi-modal data sources, video streams, sensor inputs, environmental parameters. This helps one to get beyond the challenge of small datasets. System performance is discovered using benchmark datasets and video from actual traffic events. Better than the methods now in use, the results show object detection has 95% accuracy and anomaly detection has 92% accuracy. Promising for use in smart cities, the proposed framework exhibits scalability and flexibility over a wide range of events. Its characteristics, traffic optimization, safety monitoring, and data-driven urban planning, which comprise traffic control, safety monitoring, and data-driven urban planning, have the ability to drastically change urban transportation infrastructure management.

Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) play a crucial role in advancing smart city applications by addressing the rapid increase in road traffic due to the growing number of vehicles. Effective real-time traffic prediction is essential to avoid congestion, yet existing systems often struggle with high delays and insufficient accuracy. This paper introduces an innovative ITMS based on a Hybrid Convolutional Neural Network (HCNN) to overcome these challenges. The proposed system integrates numerous smart devices, including smart vehicles, with an edge computing framework where the HCNN model is deployed. The HCNN combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to enhance prediction accuracy and reduce latency. Experimental results demonstrate that the HCNN model achieves up to 95% prediction accuracy while reducing delays by up to 50% compared to conventional methods. These improvements are significant for smart city applications, ensuring timely and precise traffic management. The study validates the effectiveness of the HCNN model in improving traffic prediction and proposes its potential for broader smart city implementation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Learning behavior in legged robots presents a significant challenge due to its inherent instability and complex constraints. Recent research has proposed the use of a large language model (LLM) to generate reward functions in reinforcement learning, thereby replacing the need for manually designed rewards by experts. However, this approach, which relies on textual descriptions to define learning objectives, fails to achieve controllable and precise behavior learning with clear directionality. In this paper, we introduce a new video2reward method, which directly generates reward functions from videos depicting the behaviors to be mimicked and learned. Specifically, we first process videos containing the target behaviors, converting the motion information of individuals in the videos into keypoint trajectories represented as coordinates through a video2text transforming module. These trajectories are then fed into an LLM to generate the reward function, which in turn is used to train the policy. To enhance the quality of the reward function, we develop a video-assisted iterative reward refinement scheme that visually assesses the learned behaviors and provides textual feedback to the LLM. This feedback guides the LLM to continually refine the reward function, ultimately facilitating more efficient behavior learning. Experimental results on tasks involving bipedal and quadrupedal robot motion control demonstrate that our method surpasses the performance of state-of-the-art LLM-based reward generation methods by over 37.6% in terms of human normalized score. More importantly, by switching video inputs, we find our method can rapidly learn diverse motion behaviors such as walking and running. © 2024 The Authors.

In this paper, we propose a probabilistic reduced-dimensional vector autoregressive (PredVAR) model with oblique projections. This model partitions the measurement space into a dynamic subspace and a static subspace that do not need to be orthogonal. The partition allows us to apply an oblique projection to extract dynamic latent variables (DLVs) from high-dimensional data with maximized predictability. We develop an alternating iterative PredVAR algorithm that exploits the interaction between updating the latent VAR dynamics and estimating the oblique projection, using expectation maximization (EM) and a statistical constraint. In addition, the noise covariance matrices are estimated as a natural outcome of the EM method. A simulation case study of the nonlinear Lorenz oscillation system illustrates the advantages of the proposed approach over two alternatives. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
