Proving Linearizability of Concurrent Queues

Linearizability is a commonly accepted correctness criterion for concurrent data structures. Concurrent queues are among the most fundamental concurrent data structures. In this paper, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for proving linearizability of concurrent queues, which make use of linearization of dequeue operations. The verification conditions intuitively express the "FIFO" semantics of concurrent queues and can be verified just by reasoning about the happened-before order of operations. We have successfully applied the proof technique to prove several challenging concurrent queues. We believe that our proof technique can be extended to the concurrent data structures which have the ordering requirements when their elements are removed. © 2024 Codon Publications. Through early intervention and individualized treatment plans, timely disease detection and personalized healthcare can advance patient results and reduce healthcare costs. With the aim to categorize medical conditions, we present a dataset in this study that includes blood sample parameters like haemoglobin, cholesterol, and glucose. To analyse these parameters, we created a three-layered artificial neural network (ANN). Achieving an accuracy of 93.42% on the test set, the ANN was trained and validated on the dataset. With the aim of reducing overfitting and enhance model generalization, dropout layers were added. Furthermore, a comparative analysis with various optimizers was carried out. The results highlight the ANN's potential as a means for timly diagnosis, personalized healthcare, improving patient outcomes and lowering long-term healthcare costs. They also demonstrate the ANN's ability to accurately classify diseases.

Causal Discovery Inspired Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Emotion-Cause Pair Extraction

This paper tackles the task of emotion-cause pair extraction in the unsupervised domain adaptation setting. The problem is challenging as the distributions of the events causing emotions in target domains are dramatically different than those in source domains, despite the distributions of emotional expressions between domains are overlapped. Inspired by causal discovery, we propose a novel deep latent model in the variational autoencoder (VAE) framework, which not only captures the underlying latent structures of data but also utilizes the easily transferable knowledge of emotions as the bridge to link the distributions of events in different domains. To facilitate knowledge transfer across domains, we also propose a novel variational posterior regularization technique to disentangle the latent representations of emotions from those of events in order to mitigate the damage caused by the spurious correlations related to the events in source domains. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our model outperforms the strongest baseline by approximately 11.05% on a Chinese benchmark and 2.45% on a English benchmark in terms of weighted-average F1 score. The air quality index (AQI) is a metric used to report air quality levels. There has been a substantial rise in the level of air pollution in Indian cities. Multiple methodologies exist for formulating a mathematical equation to ascertain the air quality index. Multiple studies have established a correlation between exposure to air pollution and negative health effects in the general population. The objective of this study is to determine the optimal approach for predicting AQI in order to aid in climate regulation. Nine separate Machine learning (ML) algorithms have been employed in the suggested study to ascertain the AQI. The use of the SMOTE algorithm in the datasets in ML resulted in improved accuracy when comparing the outcomes. Furthermore, all of the implementations have been thoroughly documented using graphs and metrics, which clearly illustrate the differences in outcomes and aid in identifying the specific factors that led to the improvement in accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 360,000 pregnant women are registered annually in Sri Lanka. Among these, about 328,000 babies are born healthy, while 5,800 are born with birth defects, some of which are severe and impact daily life. To address the Sri Lankan stillbirth rate of 6.01%, continuous monitoring of fetal and maternal health is essential. Although commercial devices exist to fulfill this requirement, their high costs and safety issues often preclude regular use. To overcome these challenges, there is a need for a passive, wearable, and portable monitoring system for fetal and maternal health. This system should track key parameters such as fetal heart rate, fetal movements, and maternal heart rate to mitigate health risks for both the fetus and the mother. In this study, we developed a device using the Arduino, appropriate sensors, and a microcontroller to monitor these vital parameters. The device is user-friendly and suitable for regular use. MATLAB was utilized for the signal processing requirements of the proposed device. Test results demonstrated that fetal movement detection was accurate, although potential errors may arise during real-time testing. For pulse sensor readings, an average percentage difference of 3.025% was observed compared to pulse oximeter readings, likely due to placement errors and sensor instability in the proposed device. © 2024 IEEE.

India, whose population growth is its greatest asset cannot afford to let its people eat confectionery that is either tainted or somehow polluted, since this would lead to extensive malnutrition. Traditional food supply chains are characterized by centralization and the problems associated with it such as having a single point of failure and producing inconsistent products while compromising the quality, along with data loss. With the need for daily reports in all regions of India regarding food fraud, contamination, and adulteration, a clearly advanced decentralized model is sought after for the creation of a supply chain. This paper introduces the supply chain network for the Indian confectionery market based on blockchain to better address quality claims, contamination, and transparency. This enables real-time traceability within the ecosystem, by using IoT strategies along with the Ethereum blockchain leading to better product authentication and resulting in higher consumer confidence. Blockchain creates a secure data tracking function, while smart contracts can be used to define the process - such as IoT monitoring of temperature. The united method enables verified data to be available to the consumer, energy efficiency, and trust across the supply chain.

Given a set of objects G with a set of attributes M and a binary relation I, a formal context (G, M, I) corresponds to a Boolean-valued information table in rough set theory, and the kernel relation of the function from G to M which maps each object of G to its afterset. This coincides with the indiscernibility relation of the Boolean-valued information table. Rough set model and Variable-Precision model (VP-model) under a formal context can be formulated based on the associated kernel relation on the objects set. α-fuzzified rough set model and VP-model under a fuzzy formal context are formulated analogously. We present an example to demonstrate the proposed α-fuzzified rough set model and VP-model under a fuzzy formal context. © 2022 IEEE.

The energy Internet (EI) presents a novel paradigm for renewable energy distribution that utilizes communication and computing technologies to revolutionize the conventional intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and power grid into a structure that provides assistance to open innovation. The EI offers sustainable and bidirectional transmission for the improvement and analysis of energy convention among electric vehicles (EVs) and service providers. To ensure efficient, reliable, and secure operation, EI must be safe from security attacks. Therefore, efficient and secure key negotiation is a significant issue for the EI-based Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) architecture. Thus, to ensure the system's security, we have devised a robust scheme to facilitate a secure key agreement between the entities involved for the secure and efficient renewable energy distribution for the EI-based energy vehicles in V2G. The devised scheme's robustness is solicited through the widely accepted formal random or real (RoR) model. In addition, the informal security analysis is conducted on the devised scheme, which is evident that the designed scheme achieves all the required security features of EI-based ITS. Moreover, the performance evaluation results endorse that the designed scheme achieves the desired security and minimizes the communication, computation, and energy overhead by 29.33%, 27.94%, and 28.08% in comparison to the existing competitive schemes. © 2014 IEEE.

The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated large-scale vaccination campaigns to control the virus's spread. Given the scale of these efforts, it's crucial to scrutinize potential adverse effects, especially in vulnerable population groups. This study combines machine learning and Genetic Algorithms (GA) to analyze the patterns of patient recovery post-vaccination. We use a range of classifiers, including the Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), to identify key features and symptom categories that influence patient recovery. We also use Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce dimensionality and uncover patterns within high-dimensional data. The data used in this study have taken from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). With the help of GA, we aim to guide optimal vaccine selection for susceptible demographics, minimizing the risk and severity of side effects. Our research paves the way for more personalized vaccination strategies, promoting healthier outcomes and reducing risks associated with mass vaccination. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
