Recognition of cursive handwritten text from photographs is a method for finding handwritten text. Identification is difficult because every author has a distinctive writing style. The proposed work uses cutting-edge technologies including RNN, KNN, MLP, and CRNN twith VGG16 to push the boundaries of character and handwriting recognition. Additionally, it compares neural networks to CNNwith VGG16 and finds that neural networks are more accurate. In the first stage, image acquisition, the scanned image is acquired along with its normalization, feature extraction, and segmentation. Additionally, it combines with the most effective feature extraction technique to improve the accuracy of our model. It also compares the accuracy with six uniquepretreat. approach, which are image segmentation image data generator data augmentation closed loop pre-processing, sigmoid Stretching and geometric *** provides the highest accuracy (98.36%) when using data augmentation. CNN has the highest accuracy (95.25%) when using picture segmentation. The third experiment's results for the image data generator show that CNN produced the best results (92.47%), while the highest model, RNN, gave closed loop processing accuracy of 92.20%. a change in geometry KNN has the highest accuracy at 95.39%.

The gait, as a kind of soft biometric characteristic, can reflect the distinct walking patterns of individuals at a distance, exhibiting a promising technique for unrestrained human identification. With largely excluding gait-unrelated cues hidden in RGB videos, the silhouette and skeleton, though visually compact, have acted as two of the most prevailing gait modalities for a long time. Recently, several attempts have been made to introduce more informative data forms like human parsing and optical flow images to capture gait characteristics, along with multi-branch architectures. However, due to the inconsistency within model designs and experiment settings, we argue that a comprehensive and fair comparative study among these popular gait modalities, involving the representational capacity and fusion strategy exploration, is still lacking. From the perspectives of fine vs. coarse-grained shape and whole vs. pixel-wise motion modeling, this work presents an in-depth investigation of three popular gait representations, i.e., silhouette, human parsing, and optical flow, with various fusion evaluations, and experimentally exposes their similarities and differences. Based on the obtained insights, we further develop a C²Fusion strategy, consequently building our new framework MultiGait++. C²Fusion preserves commonalities while highlighting differences to enrich the learning of gait features. This paper presents the experimental evaluation of an AI-powered vehicle toll collection system, utilizing RFID technology and IoT integration. The system was designed to automate toll collection, reducing transaction time and improving accuracy while minimizing human intervention. The methodology involved RFID-based vehicle identification, real-time data transfer via IoT, and automatic toll deductions from prepaid accounts. The system was evaluated based on transaction speed, accuracy, user satisfaction, and system reliability. Results show that the automated system significantly reduced average transaction times from 32.5 seconds (manual) to 10 seconds (automated) during peak hours. Additionally, the system demonstrated a 100% accuracy rate in detecting unregistered vehicles and low-balance scenarios. User satisfaction was high, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5. System reliability was also excellent, achieving an average uptime of 99.5% across multiple toll booth locations. The AI-powered toll collection system proved to be highly efficient in automating toll processes, reducing congestion, and improving the user experience. These findings suggest that such systems can effectively modernize toll management, contributing to time savings, reduced operational costs, and enhanced security. © 2024 IEEE.

The motive of underwater image enhancement is to improve and enhance the quality of photographs taken underwater. Various traditonal image processing techniques and deep learning models have been developed to work on this task. But most often the deep learning models and conventional methods of image processing work in silos, leading to subpar results. This research proposes a strategy that utilizes a combination of both approaches to solve this issue. Initially, traditional image processing techniques like colour correction and image stretching are used to enhance the colour of the images. The enhanced images are then fed into a custom Real-ESRGAN model that has been fine-tuned on an underwater image dataset to optimize performance in this context. This hybrid approach has the potential to outperform the models utilizing either traditional or deep learning methods in isolation by leveraging the strengths of both. In addition, batch processing is used in the pipeline to efficiently handle multiple images at the same time. This effectively addresses the scalability problem that arises frequently in image enhancement tasks. With eye-catching visuals, the proposed methodology achieves a Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) of 23.66 and a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.28, suggesting excellent image restoration and noise reduction. The qualitative assessments show that the improved image graphs have better colour, contrast, and clarity than the originals.

Energy companies are considering producing renewable fuels such as hydrogen/ammonia. Setting up a production network means deciding where to build production plants, and how to operate them at minimum electricity and transport costs. These decisions are complicated by many factors including the difficulty in obtaining accurate current data (e.g., electricity price and transport costs) for potential supply locations, the accuracy of data predictions (e.g., for demand and costs), and the need for some decisions to be made due to external (not modelled) factors. Thus, decision-makers need access to a user-centric decision system that helps them visualise, explore, interact and compare the many possible solutions of many different scenarios. The history of the web has been defined by a series of revolutionary developments, from the advent of HTML and web browsers to the explosion of social media and cloud computing. Throughout this evolution, human actors have played pivotal roles, serving as developers, technologists, and innovators who have guided the trajectory of the Internet. However, the emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs), such as OpenAI's GPT series, represents a paradigm shift. These AI systems are not merely tools for humans but are increasingly becoming autonomous agents that shape the flow of information on the web. In this paper, we argue that LLMs can be framed as historical actors, meaning they are not only facilitators of human endeavors but also independent forces that influence the web's evolution. We explore how these AI systems direct the flow of information, shape public discourse, and may influence future interpretations of web-based history.

AUTHFi: Cross-Technology Device Authentication via Commodity WiFi

The explosive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has dramatically increased the demand for secure mechanisms to protect against unauthorized access and attacks. Traditionally, expensive Software-Defined Radios (SDRs) have been utilized to gather IoT physical features, which are critical for reliable authentication. However, the high cost of SDRs makes them impractical for widespread deployment across the vast and diverse IoT ecosystem. In contrast, this paper presents AUTHFi, a novel cross-technology device authentication framework that transforms the SDR approach for collecting and authenticating IoT device signals (e.g., ZigBee and Bluetooth) by utilizing commercial WiFi devices. Specifically, AUTHFi leverages the recent advances in Cross-Technology Communication (CTC) to reconstruct the partial waveform of IoT transmission, thus eliminating the requirement for expensive SDRs. AUTHFi requires us to address several unique challenges. First, AUTHFi compensates for signal losses of the partial waveform to get more signal information. Then, it introduces an enhanced Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO) estimation and a fusion neural network that combines CFO and the reconstructed waveform for accurate device authentication. We implement AUTHFi based on RTL8812au (commodity WiFi) and CC2652P (commodity ZigBee/Bluetooth). Our thorough evaluation confirms that AUTHFi offers reliable authentication under various settings, achieving a maximum accuracy of 94.2%. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Emotion recognition from facial expressions plays a pivotal role in human-computer interaction, psychology, marketing, and various other domains. This research paper presents a comprehensive study and implementation of an automated emotion recognition system based on deep learning techniques. The project addresses the challenge of accurately classifying a wide range of emotions from facial images in real-time. Leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and modern deep learning approaches, the system demonstrates high accuracy in identifying emotions, including happiness, sadness, anger, and more. This project used the image dataset FER-2013 for the mood prediction portion of the project, and Spotify music data to predict emotions for music recommendation. Both the datasets utilized are freely available on Kaggle. The proposed system can achieve an accuracy of 91.23% in predicting the users’ emotion based on their facial expressions.

OmniDialog: An Omnipotent Pre-training Model for Task-Oriented Dialogue System

Pre-trained conversation models (PCMs) have demonstrated remarkable results in task-oriented dialogue (TOD) systems. Many PCMs focus predominantly on dialogue management tasks like dialogue state tracking, dialogue generation tasks like response generation, or both. However, the existing PCMs seldom consider dialogue comprehension tasks, such as dialogue question answering and summarization tasks. These tasks allow PCMs to glean dialogue context from various angles. This observation naturally raises the question: Can the performance of downstream dialogue tasks be enhanced if a PCM is pre-trained on dialogue management, generation, and comprehension tasks? To investigate this, we proposed an Omnipotent Dialogue pre-training model (OmniDialog). It unifies these three dialogue tasks into a monolithic framework by multi-task learning, fostering inter-task communication. The pre-training corpus of OmniDialog spans 7 dialogue-focused tasks, drawing from 15 datasets and encompassing over 3.2 million dialogue utterances. To our knowledge, OmniDialog is a pioneering PCM pre-trained across dialogue management, generation, and comprehension domains. We evaluated its performance across four tasks: dialogue summarization, end-to-end dialogue modeling, dialogue state tracking, and intent classification. The results underscore its efficacy in domain transfer learning, low-resource, and full-dataset scenarios. Furthermore, to glean a nuanced understanding of OmniDialog’s strengths and potential pitfalls, we designed a fine-grained analysis framework for dialogue-centric tasks. Temporal-Guided Spiking Neural Networks for Event-Based Human Action Recognition

This paper explores the promising interplay between spiking neural networks (SNNs) and event-based cameras for privacy-preserving human action recognition (HAR). The unique feature of event cameras in capturing only the outlines of motion, combined with SNNs’ proficiency in processing spatiotemporal data through spikes, establishes a highly synergistic compatibility for event-based HAR. Previous studies, however, have been limited by SNNs’ ability to process long-term temporal information, essential for precise HAR. In this paper, we introduce two novel frameworks to address this: temporal segment-based SNN (TS-SNN) and 3D convolutional SNN (3D-SNN). The TS-SNN extracts long-term temporal information by dividing actions into shorter segments, while the 3D-SNN replaces 2D spatial elements with 3D components to facilitate the transmission of temporal information. To promote further research in event-based HAR, we create a dataset, FallingDetection-CeleX, collected using the high-resolution CeleX-V event camera (1280 × 800), comprising 7 distinct actions. Extensive experimental results show that our proposed frameworks surpass state-of-the-art SNN methods on our newly collected dataset and three other neuromorphic datasets, showcasing their effectiveness in handling long-range temporal information for event-based HAR.
