Different techniques have been developed for object detection and recognition. These techniques can be divided into single-shot and two-shot methods. Single-shot methods focus on real-time applications, while two-shot methods are used in applications requiring higher accuracy. However, different versions of the two-shot techniques produce limited results in terms of accuracy and speed, or both. Therefore, this study proposes a novel model called dynamic generative R-CNN (DGR-CNN) that reduces the number of proposed regions using a dynamic programming model that applies the graph similarity method over graph-based image segmentation. Additionally, the proposed model employs DCGAN technique to improve detection performance. DGR-CNN reduces the overall detection and classification time and enhances the detection accuracy. The PASCAL VOC2007 and MS COCO datasets were utilized to evaluate the model. The results showed that DGR-CNN significantly reduces the number of candidate regions compared to the selective search algorithm employed in R-CNN and fast R-CNN. Although fast R-CNN utilizes 2000 regions and faster R-CNN utilizes 300 regions, DGR-CNN reduces the number of regions to approximately 130. The mean average precision of the proposed method was 75.1% on the PASCAL VOC2007, while fast and faster R-CNN scored 66.9% and 69.9%, respectively. Moreover, the DGR-CNN model significantly improved the classification accuracy when tested on the MS COCO dataset, achieving an MAP of 68.76%, compared with 32.64% and 42.3% for fast and faster R-CNN. In an effort to obtain simultaneous enhancement in the electrochemical performance and the electronic conductivity while achieving resistance to chromium (Cr) poisoning, here we developed high-entropy perovskite oxide with the composition of (La0.2Nd0.2Sm0.2Sr0.2Ba0.2)0.95(Co0.2Fe0.8)1-xNixO3-δ (HE-LSCF095Nix, x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15), which contains A-site deficiency and different amount of Ni doping. The composition that contains 0.10 Ni doping, i.e., HE-LSCF095Ni10 showed the highest electrochemical performance, i.e., the lowest polarization resistances (Rp) of 0.83 Ω cm2 at 650 °C and 0.39 Ω cm2 at 700 °C, which are much lower than those of its original high entropy parent perovskite analog La0.2Nd0.2Sm0.2Sr0.2Ba0.2Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (HE-LSCF) of 2.14 Ω cm2 at 650 °C and 0.60 Ω cm2 at 700 °C. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and electrical conductivity measurements revealed that the higher electrochemical performance for HE-LSCF095Ni10 relative to HE-LSCF is due to the lower oxygen vacancy formation energy (−52.75 eV −1 > 168.15 S cm−1 at 700 °C). Notably, following Cr treatment for 40 h, HE-LSCF095Ni10-based symmetrical cell displayed marginal increase in Rp, indicating good resistance to Cr poisoning. Anode-supported single cell based on HE-LSCF095Ni10, i.e., NiO-SDC|SDC|HE-LSCF095Ni10 showed relatively high peak power densities of 0.639, 0.806, and 0.939 W cm−2 at 650, 700, and 750 °C, respectively, which are comparable to the other cells based on best performing cathodes. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Cervical cancer, accounting for 7.9% of cancers in women globally, is a critical health challenge, particularly due to its asymptomatic nature in early stages. This study proposes a machine learning-driven framework to predict cervical cancer risk using clinical data, addressing class imbalance through SMOTE and optimizing model performance via GridSearchCV. By evaluating five classifiers - K-Nearest Neighbors, Random Forest, Support Vector Classifier, Logistic Regression, and Decision Trees - this research identifies the Decision Tree model as the most robust, achieving superior precision, recall, and accuracy metrics. Additionally, Explainable AI techniques such as SHAP and LIME were employed to enhance interpretability, offering clinicians actionable insights into key risk factors driving predictions. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of machine learning in facilitating early detection and personalized treatment strategies for cervical cancer, thereby advancing its integration into clinical applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Construction Digital Twins (CDTs) are pivotal in AECO;however, many recent publications offer non-standardized, monolithic frameworks. This research suggests adopting modular CDTs through standardized Information Containers for linked Document Delivery (ICDD) to promote high modularity and reusability. It proposes a way to couple multiple ICDDs in a System-of-Systems approach. Therefore, the data structure of ICDD is analyzed and extended towards a hierarchy of containers that can communicate horizontally and vertically. Standardized REST and SPARQL interfaces are used for horizontal communication. An extended data structure supports vertical integration of CDT modules within ICDD containers, subsidizing spatial, process, or life cycle criteria based on the standardized link-type specializations provided by the ICDD standard. Eventually, this paper presents a proof of concept for CDT module integration within ICDD, addressing the need for modular and standardized frameworks for deploying CDTs based on the use case of bridge condition assessment integrating inspection data and live data from structural health monitoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Inverse kinematics solution for a six-degree-of-freedom upper limb rehabilitation robot using deep learning models

The inverse kinematics problem in serially manipulated upper limb rehabilitation robots implies the usage of the end-effector position to obtain the joint rotation angles. In contrast to the forward kinematics, there are no systematic approaches for solving the inverse kinematics problem. Furthermore, for some morphology of the upper limb rehabilitation robots, the inverse kinematics problem is particularly challenging to solve. Conventional methods to solve the inverse kinematics problem reported in the literature are computationally expensive. In the present work, we propose a deep learning-based model to acquire the joint angles for a given end-effector position. The proposed approach exhibits high efficacy in determining the joint angles for various target positions and can accurately predict the end-effector positions once trained, improving the ability of the upper limb rehabilitation robot to adapt to varying patient needs. Due to its improved capability and effectiveness to track positions, the proposed algorithm lays the foundation for the development of efficient controllers in future. © The Author(s) 2025.

Application of hybrid capsule network model for malaria parasite detection on microscopic blood smear images

Today, malaria is a dangerous disease caused by Plasmodium parasites and transmitted by the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes. It is estimated that more than 200,000 cases of malaria will occur every day worldwide, and more than 400,000 people will die from malaria. Early diagnosis of malaria is important to mitigate the morbidity and mortality of the disease. In this paper, a fully trained capsule neural network combined with a convolutional neural network model is proposed for malaria detection from blood smear microscopic images. In malaria diagnosis, the hybrid CapsNet model can detect malaria in blood samples. The hybrid model is optimized based on malaria data in microscopic images of infected and uninfected blood. Images are processed and enhanced through rotation before being fed into the hybrid CapsNet model. The CapsNet hybrid model is examined for malaria data with a learning rate of 0.07 and a batch size of 20. Hybrid CapsNet model shows improved results in detecting malaria from microscopic images measured against the currently available standard malaria test. Constraints like malaria parasite detection rate, accuracy, F1 index and blood smear classification is used to gauge the attainment of the hybrid CapsNet model. Detection rate of 99%, accuracy of 99.08% and FAR of 0.97% is attained by the hybrid CapsNet model as contrary to the traditional state-of-the-art model, the DSCN-Net, where the detection rate was 98%, the accuracy was 97.2%, and the FAR was 0.99%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), the role of vehicle detection and classification is indispensable for streamlining transportation management, refining traffic control, and conducting in-depth accident analyses. However, the intricate task of accurately detecting multi-oriented vehicles in diverse scenarios remains a challenge, even with the advancements in ITS. Factors such as vehicle morphology, design, road conditions, structural details, and climatic variables provide a significant part in the detection. To address this, our study introduces an advanced YOLOv8n model, specifically the YOLOv8n-CGW, which is built upon pre-trained deep learning frameworks. This model is meticulously tailored to enhance the detection capabilities for multi-oriented vehicles. Comprehensive evaluations on esteemed datasets like MtV, MERGED, Custom dataset, DAWN, WEDGE, and UA-DETRAC underscore the superiority of our approach over existing models. Notably, our YOLOv8n-CGW model achieves a remarkable mAP of 83.3% and boasts a swift inference time of 0.0019s, setting a new benchmark in the domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a proven approach for addressing the irrational thought patterns associated with mental health disorders, but its effectiveness relies on accurately identifying cognitive pathways to provide targeted treatment. In today's digital age, individuals often express negative emotions on social media, where they may reveal cognitive distortions, and in severe cases, exhibit suicidal tendencies. However, there is a significant gap in methodologies designed to analyze these cognitive pathways, which could be critical for psychotherapists aiming to deliver timely and effective interventions in online environments. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework leveraging acceptance, commitment and data augmentation to categorize and address both textual and visual content as positive or negative. Specifically, the system employs BERT, RoBERTa for Sentiment Analysis and T5, PEGASUS for Text Summarization, mT5 for Text Translation in Multiple Languages focusing on detecting negative emotions and cognitive distortions within social media data. While existing models are primarily designed to identify negative thoughts, the proposed system goes beyond this by predicting additional negative side effects and other potential mental health disorders likes Phobias, Eating Disorders. This enhancement allows for a more comprehensive understanding and intervention strategy, offering psychotherapists a powerful tool for early detection and treatment of various psychological issues. © 2025 IEEE.

Optimal agricultural methods need precise crop health and ecological strain monitoring. This study proposes a novel data science strategy to improve crop health prediction and stress assessment. ResXceNet-HBA is a cutting-edge classification model that uses ResNet blocks, Xception modules with Adaptive Depthwise Separable Convolutions, and HBA-optimized parameters. This model uses HBA's Dynamic Exploration-Exploitation Balance-fine-tuned Dynamic Feature Recalibration and adaptive convolutions. Imputation Weight Crop Labels (WICL) to accurately fill in missing data, Localised Feature Scaling (LFS) and Adaptive Feature Discretization (AFD) to standardize and categorize features, and the Environmental Stress Factor (ESF) to evaluate crop stress address data problems ASRFS and Crop-Specific Environmental Impact Weighting increase model performance. Our system also employs Adaptive Synthetic Resampling with Environmental Context. Using novel measures including the Crop Type Generalisation Score (CTGS) and Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI), the ResXceNet-HBA model achieved 98.5% accuracy, 98.2% precision, 98.7% recall, and 98.4% F1-Score. These results beat ResNet, CNN, and Inception V2. The model executed in 50.9 seconds, faster than the alternatives. The confusion matrix exhibits minimal false positives and negatives, suggesting good prediction accuracy. ResXceNet-HBA's statistics and resource optimization value increases. Precision farming and sustainable agriculture benefit from our strategy's significant environmental stress and crop health assessments. © 2013 IEEE.

Ultra-low power MoS2 optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity for color target recognition

Optoelectronic synapses that integrate visual perception and pre-processing hold significant potential for neuromorphic vision systems（NVSs）. However, due to a lack of wavelength sensitivity, existing NVS mainly focuses on gray-scale image processing, making it challenging to recognize color images. Additionally, the high power consumption of optoelectronic synapses, compared to the 10 fJ energy consumption of biological synapses, limits their broader application. To address these challenges, an energy-efficient NVS capable of color target recognition in a noisy environment was developed,utilizing a MoS2optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity. Benefiting from the distinct photon capture capabilities of 450, 535, and 650 nm light, the optoelectronic synapse exhibits wavelength-dependent synaptic plasticity, including excitatory postsynaptic current（EPSC）, paired-pulse facilitation（PPF）, and long-term plasticity（LTP）. These properties can effectively mimic the visual memory and color discrimination functions of the human vision system. Results demonstrate that the NVS, based on MoS2optoelectronic synapses, can eliminate the color noise at the sensor level, increasing color image recognition accuracy from 50% to 90%. Importantly, the optoelectronic synapse operates at a low voltage spike of0.0005 V, consuming only 0.075 fJ per spike, surpassing the energy efficiency of both existing optoelectronic and biological synapses. This ultra-low power, color-sensitive device eliminates the need for color filters and offers great promise for future deployment in filter-free NVS.
