Augmented reality (AR) has been proven as a valuable human-computer interface (HCI) for many real-time applications in domains such as education and entertainment. In this paper, we have shown that the modelling of a 3-D gearbox model can be enhanced with marker-based augmented reality (AR). The marker-based augmented reality (AR) visual representation of an automobile’s gearbox can improve the understanding of how each moving component interact with each other. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Retroactive data structure for protein–protein interaction in lung cancer using Dijkstra algorithm

Protein–Protein interactions (PPI) networks are protein complexes arranged in networks that are created by biochemical processes or electrostatic forces to carry out biological functions. PPI research is a challenging problem for both computer scientists as well as biologists due to the inherent potential of the original source that researchers can work with. PPI networks are being employed to research ailments, develop better medications, and comprehend various medical and health procedures that will finally benefit mankind. Retroactive data structures are a type of data structure that allows actions to be done on it in the past. The only restrictions included in the data structure are consistency requirements, which allow for arbitrary operation insertion and deletion at arbitrary moments. It is shown that efficient retroactivity, unlike persistence, is not always possible. In this work, the performance demonstrated their utility through real-world use cases and applications, in addition to going through the data structures employed in their implementation. The dynamic single source shortest path problem was successfully resolved by modifying the Dijkstra algorithm dynamically. The Dijkstra method is changed into a dynamic one via the retroactive priority queue data structure. Retroactive data structures identify the group of updated vertices one by one, requiring fewer calculations to accept the modifications. In order to dynamically adjust the Dijkstra method, which solves the dynamic single source shortest path problem with a quick update time, we used a suitable dynamic graph representation and a retroactive priority queue. A protein-protein interaction network is created for the protein involved in lung cancer and then the modified Dijkstra algorithm is applied to calculate the all-pair shortest path. The foundation of cryptography is number theory, which is crucial to data security. The majority of commonly used encryption techniques use prime integers, making it challenging to identify specific prime values (keys). The suggested approach employs matrices and vectors as keys, making it harder to identify the individual keys and using vectors to represent the data. Now a days, one method for providing data security safeguards is encryption. The right encryption technique protects digital data from unauthorized access, data corruption, e-piracy, e-theft, and other threats. Data security is the main benefit of utilizing this method. Here, we have used the symmetric key encryption procedure to generate keys from two uneven matrices. Seven different keys in matrix format have been chosen to perform encryption and decryption. With the help of an example, the techniques for encryption and decryption have been explained. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we present our methods for the MediaEval 2020 Flood Related Multimedia task, which aims to analyze and combine textual and visual content from social media for the detection of real-world flooding events. The task mainly focuses on identifying floods related tweets relevant to a specific area. We propose several schemes to address the challenge. For text-based flood events detection, we use three different methods, relying on Bag of Words (BOW) and an Italian Version of Bert individually and in combination, achieving an F1-score of 0.77%, 0.68%, and 0.70% on the development set, respectively. For the visual analysis, we rely on features extracted via multiple state-of-the-art deep models pre-trained on ImageNet. The extracted features are then used to train multiple individual classifiers whose scores are then combined in a late fusion manner achieving an F1-score of 0.75%. For our mandatory multi-modal run, we combine the classification scores obtained with the best textual and visual schemes in a late fusion manner. Overall, better results are obtained with the multimodal scheme achieving an F1-score of 0.80% on the development set. © 2020 Copyright 2020 for this paper by its authors. All Rights Reserved.

Applications performance is a criterion for system evaluation, and hence performance tuning for these applications is of great interest. One such benchmark application is High Performance Linpack (HPL). Although guidelines exist for HPL tuning, validating these guidelines on various systems is a challenging task as a large number of configurations need to be tested. In this work, we use data mining analysis to reduce the number of configurations to be tested in validating the HPL tuning guidelines on the Ranger System. We validate that NB, P and Q are the three most important parameters to tune HPL, and that PMAP does not have a significant impact on HPL performance. We also validate the practice of tuning HPL at small N using data mining analysis. We find that the value of N selected for tuning should not be significantly smaller than the largest N that can fit into the system memory. Our results indicate that data mining could be further applied to application performance tuning. © 2009 IEEE.

A new ALE-based on singular spectrum analysis (SSA) is proposed here. In this approach in the reconstruction stage of SSA the eigentriples are adaptively selected using the delayed version of the data. Unlike for the conventional ALE where order statistics are taken into account, here full eigen-spectrum of the embedding matrix is exploited. Consequently, the system works for non-Gaussian noise and wideband periodic signals. The performance of the system is demonstrated for synthetic as well as real signals and compared with those of traditional ALE. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper proposes an efficient, bi-convex, fuzzy, variational (BFV) method with teaching and learning based optimization (TLBO) for geometric image segmentation. Firstly, we adopt a bi-convex, object function to process a geometric image. Then, we introduce TLBO to maximally optimize the length-penalty item, which will be changed under the teaching phase and the learner phase of the TLBO. This makes the length penalty item closer to the target boundary. Therefore, the length-penalty item can be automatically adjusted according to the fitness function, namely the evaluation standards of the image quality. At last, we combine the length-penalty item with the numerical remedy mechanism to achieve better results. Compared with existing methods, simulations show that our method is more effective. © 2016 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

The Sunway family supercomputers have achieved a series of remarkable achievements. However, the toolchains provided by them are not perfect, which has brought great challenges to the development of high-performance application software. In this paper, a profiling and optimizing tool is proposed to assist people to analyze and optimize the performance of their programs. SWPFOPLD is independent of the application program and gathers the runtime performance data through the PMUs, an automatically hot functions rearrange optimization based on the performance data is furtherly accomplished. The evaluation shows that SWPFOPLD can be easily and effectively used to analyze and optimize the performance of the application programs. © 2023 IEEE.

In the phase of oil drilling, mud filtrate penetrates into porous formations and alters the pore fluid properties. This complicates well logging exploration, and inevitably gives rise to shift in reservoir estimation. Logging engineers deem mud invasion a harm and attempt to eliminate its impact on logging data exploration. However, from our point of view, the mud-contaminated parts of the formation do also carry some valuable information, notably with regard to the key hydraulic properties. Therefore, if adequately characterized, mud invasion effects, in turn, could be utilized for reservoir estimation. Typically, the invasion depth critically depends on the formation porosity and permeability. To achieve this objective, we propose to use borehole radar to determine the mud invasion depth considering a high spatial resolution of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) compared with the conventional logging tools. We implement numerical investigations on the feasibility of this approach by coupling electromagnetic (EM) modelling with fluid flow modelling in an oil-bearing formation disturbed by mud invasion effects. The simulations imply that a time-lapse radar logging is able to extract EM reflection signals from mud invasion front, and the invasion depth and EM velocity can be obtained by a downhole antenna displacement of one source and two receivers. We find that there exists a positive correlation between the estimated invasion depth and permeability curves, and a negative correlation between the estimated velocity and porosity curves. We suggest that borehole radar has potential to estimate permeability and porosity of oil reservoirs, wherein the mud invasion effect is positively utilized. The study demonstrates a potential method of oil reservoir estimation and a novel application of GPR in oil fields.
